Kind of like the Beatles song "Baby your a rich man" about their manager Brian Epstein. |

All streets that I know have names and I was born and raised in the US. Most big cities like NYC have numbered and lettered streets, but most of America has named streets. |

Just saw them for the first time in Pasadena, CA a few days ago. It was incredible, particularly the visuals. During this song the screen showed black and white travel on a barren, desert road. I interpret this song as heaven or some unearthly paradise where there are no labels, no separations. Sometimes I think U2 is too wildly famous and I don't like that. But I do think some of their songs are just amazing. |

Listening to this more closely, I can see that this is a brilliant song. At first I thought he was wanting to leave the place that reminded him of his lost love. Then there's the "body gets much closer" most likely because he's superficially involved with someone else and he thinks about his real love. Brilliant--so much said in so few words. |

Genuis lyrics. I dont see how this is perverted as others claim. Just a simple somg about love gone wrong
. "A soap suds stickle back navy"... i mean come on, what other pop/rock songer use that kind of metaphor and alitteration? They were in a different class of genius. |

The song is not about drugs. I read an interview with difford, the lyricist, who claims he was inspired by a freind's souvenirs from the middle east. People have to read a load of garbage into pretty simple lyrics. The words are amazing nonetheless. |

I've been listening to this song over and over again. It's very intense, frantic in mood. I see it as being related to a drug trip, drug addiction. In any case, it's a fantastic piece of music and lyrics combined. |

One of my favorite Beatles songs, though somewhat cryptic. Generally I think it's about a man going through his daily life, detached from emotion and the harsh realities. The orchestral moments made this song a classic. |

By the use of "shorthands a letter" I get the feel of this being in the 50s. I mean, who was shorthanding in the 80s? Also, the sinatra reference. Interesting, the song is a picture of a mid century woman working her way to the top by sleeping with men. |

This song is pure poetry. Nevermind the comments about it being cliche. This song far exceeds and country western song heard in the last 40 years. It's brilliant and I give Squeeze great respect for placing it on their album despite reservations. It was a hit in the UK. I actually never heard it until recently being from the USA.
"She learned from a distance how love was a lesson." I mean, how brilliant is that? |

This sounds like the start of rap songs in the late 70s, early 80s reminscient of Blondie and a little later with Wham. But Squeeze definitely had a way with words unlike all the others. |
