| Depeche Mode – Where's the Revolution Lyrics | 7 years ago |
|
This song is about, rather, TO, the United States...because it is allowing itself to look like the worst of the British Monarchism in the public arena, especially with mister "Make America Great Britain Again." The idiot who cannot see the terrorism of the American Ku Klux Klan and their history might maybe get a computer and do a search and find out about terrorism inside the United States. Until then, people like that are why it looks like the American Revolution didn't happen... the United States lets its democratic system get squashed in favour of fascistic Republican agendas and it looks to rational human beings like "where's the American Revolution? Where's the declaration of indepedence, where is equality?" And also, this is sarcastic, because Art IS revolution, and Depeche are declaring that it's underway with this song. a lot of people's fave act for decades. Long live depeche. |

the real great guitar players have soul, they are not sell outs they come from off the beaten path, where they home in on their sound while the mediocre are trying to dominate scenes and grab the money the long tall daddies are in the backwoods gripping the 'git with psychedelic soul. this song is about the greatness of being real i am not ashamed that i was into the RHCP before success spoiled 'em. fuck dave |

| Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics | 7 years ago |

Themes in this song include regret ("Now that I'm poor and aging...") and how education will not get you everywhere (She can read, she can read, oh she's "bad"). In a radio interview, the band said they wrote the song after they saw a news report about the recent death of a model. The word "obstacle" doesn't appear in this song or another track on the album, "Obstacle 2." Interpol don't think the titles of songs are important, so they put little thought into them. Lead singer and guitarist, Paul Banks, revealed to Pitchfork in 2003 why the songs are named that way. "I've just never really been all that interested in titles, so either I'm very inspired, or it's just, whatever, the working title," he said. "'Obstacle' 1 and 2 actually came from Daniel, he was working on those. I came up with those names, and they were just our working titles, and everyone was like, 'Those are great names.' We wrote 'Obstacle 2' first and 'Obstacle 1' second, and I do think it was relating to the fact that, for some reason we'd had a drought in our writing. We kind of had a down phase. We just hadn't written anything good in a couple of months, and all of a sudden we were pumping out songs. So it was sort of related to that." |

he knows that there is love between him and her, but there are politics. they cannot be together. he's frustrated, he's biting his lip in anger because he knows in his heart that the love between them is real. it's from a play. that is the story the song tells about forbidden, passionate true love. |

| Sting – Russians Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
@[marc101543:22022] I think Sting was being subtle and phrasing his question to mock those who might think that the Russians are monsters who do NOT love their children. pfft. but I am a fan. and also, contextually, if you look at the rest of the lyric it's so bloody obvious. Stinger also is an English prof. His fans are aware of this. But I can see how an Austrian might have an attitude. Considering, well, how many famous Austrians are there? yech. |
|
| Sting – Russians Lyrics | 8 years ago |

an idiot might mock this song. ha. in 2017 it is obvious that a) The Sting is a poet with depth and staying power, and b) the coldwar powers are as scary as they were in the 1980s and humans are still humans in the USSA... how Thoughtlessly Cruel to mock this lyric. i am sure that anyone doing so has written no lyrics of their own worth being played. for millions and millions of fans all over the world. |

| Cyndi Lauper – Money Changes Everything Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
...original single was released in 1978 by the Brains as a 45 rpm single on Gray Matter Records. The B side of the single was a song called "Quick with Your Lip". The initial underground success of the song led to the Brains being signed by Mercury Records. They rerecorded the song under the guidance of producer Steve Lillywhite for their 1980 debut album, The Brains. Critic Greil Marcus, listing it at number 10 of his Real-Life Rock Top Ten 1979, said, "Singer Tom Gray told his story in a strangled voice, as if he were trying to explain, but instead he laid a curse. This damned single ranks higher than I've placed it, but if it were anywhere else I couldn't end with it, and there's no other way the decade could end." Not penned by the great chanteuse Ms Lauper. It was something she wanted to repeat, perhaps. But not words she came up with. |
