The National – Gospel Lyrics | 2 years ago |
@[cmgonemad:41988] You may want to get you a life there. Turning everything into hatred for conservatives is probably not healthy. |
Leonard Cohen – A Thousand Kisses Deep Lyrics | 2 years ago |
Aww crap! He broke my fucking heart with this one. |
Leonard Cohen – Happens to the Heart Lyrics | 2 years ago |
I thought I knew until the last verse. |
Leonard Cohen – If It Be Your Will Lyrics | 2 years ago |
It's a Christian song, obviously, and a great one. |
Van Morrison – And It Stoned Me Lyrics | 6 years ago |

Hozier – Work Song Lyrics | 6 years ago |
This is the way you write a love song. Visceral, gut wrenching, soul searching. What a talent. |
Amos Lee – Seen It All Before Lyrics | 6 years ago |
I am no fan of love songs, even wary ones like this. However, as Sam Kinnison said what else are you going to do, give sheep the vote? We all fall in love. We all poop. We all pass gas. Don't write songs about it. |
Ray LaMontagne – Trouble Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Man, this is going to end badly. Very badly. |
Iron & Wine – Upward Over the Mountain Lyrics | 6 years ago |
I have no words. Like so many of his songs, it says exactly what he wants to say. Beautiful |
The XX – Intro Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Life is what you make of it. Isn't it? |
David Gray – Kathleen Lyrics | 6 years ago |
A great love song. Poetry. This is what love is. |
The Lumineers – Sleep on the Floor Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Excellent song. For what it is worth, I had one parent that raged against the dying of the light and one that went peaceably, willfully. Perhaps Thomas's rage is ill placed. Perhaps not. To some, death is a sweet release. To others, a dreadful departure. Such is life. |
Radical Face – Always Gold Lyrics | 6 years ago |
What a wonderful, open, emotional song. |
Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Think about it. The only thing you need to know is that Hunter Thompson dedicated Fear and Loathing to it. |
The Head and the Heart – Down in the Valley Lyrics | 6 years ago |
respectfully, I don't see it that way at all. I see it as someone who has enjoyed his travels and is still alive there. He's on his on his way back to where he started. Love life! Love the journey! |
Gregory Alan Isakov – The Stable Song Lyrics | 6 years ago |
It's life. "Now I'm covered up in straw, belly up on the table And I drank and sang, and I passed in the stable" He's dead or dying wishing he could do it all over again. Billy Graham was asked if there was anything about life that surprised him. He said yes, how brief it was. The singer has learned some painful lessons "now I know" but he wants to do it all over again! Dear Lord, so do most of us. |
The Band – Tears of Rage Lyrics | 6 years ago |
But what does it mean? |
Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Nature vs nurture. The age old argument.None of us want to believe we could be Gacy, or Hitler or Stalin or any horrendous creature from the past. The old phrase rings true: "There but for the grace of God, go I." i am not a zealot, in fact I am an agnostic. However, how much better would the world be if we emulated Jesus? Love one another? The beauty of a sunset is better than the horror of the holocaust. Yet both exist in our world. God help us all. |
Malcolm Middleton – Loneliness Shines Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Malcolm, Malcolm, Malcolm wish you loved you as much as we do |
Rocky Votolato – White Daisy Passing Lyrics | 7 years ago |
See tomorrow and tomorrow from Macbeth. This is about time passing. Brilliant and tragic. Much love for this song. |
Malcolm Middleton – Ballad of Fuck All Lyrics | 7 years ago |

Angus and Julia Stone – Just A Boy Lyrics | 7 years ago |
When was the last time you heard a happier song to lift your spirits? Bravo!! |
Angus and Julia Stone – Paper Aeroplane Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I love happy songs. Not songs about how great a shit you had this morning or how great your car is. Songs that celebrate life. This song imbues a child-like happiness and it's contagious. We need more songs like this!! |
Angus and Julia Stone – Choking Lyrics | 7 years ago |
oh my god! where to begin? the doors guitar lick from "the end" wow this is as deep as it gets or as deep as i go relationships end it's never pleasant for the ender or endee, as it were to me, she's acknowledging the end not going easily, though this song is so hearfelt anyone who has ever been on either end of a breakup (and that's all of us) can feel what she is saying so eloquently touching touching touching thank you! |
Iron & Wine – Muddy Hymnal Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Listen everyone! This is a great song but it's heart wrenching. After listening to it, immediately listen to Brooks Williams' beautiful Leaozinho. If that doesn't lift your spirits, put the gun to your head. It;s too late for you. |
Iron & Wine – Muddy Hymnal Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Heartbreaking. One of the most moving songs I have ever heard. |
Angus and Julia Stone – Paper Aeroplane Lyrics | 7 years ago |
A happy, innocent song! |
Elliott Smith – Angeles Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Rest in peace Eliot, And, as they say, Godspeed. |
Elliott Smith – Angeles Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think it's about the music business and bullshit. I think what's lost in these discussions is that here was a true genius, tortured as many have been throughout history. Beautiful melody Lyrics that stand up to the best poetry in our history And a tragic, gentle soul, damaged beyond all repair, who gave us so many gifts. |
Iron & Wine – Boy with a Coin Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Samuel is hard to grasp. In another time, he could have easily been Mozart. He could just as easily been an itinerant worker. Today, he is both. A composer and an everyman. Tough trick but he pulls it off. I wish I had more to say about this song but it has all been said eloquently in prior posts. I think we all just wait with baited breathe to see what's next. |
Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Big disclaimer: I am a HUGE modest mouse fan. Just means i like them a lot, I'm normal in physical stature. Banjo intertwined with the electric guitar is genius (did I mention I really like Modest Mouse? Bukowski is a good read and I think there are differing accounts as to whether or not he was an asshole. The verdict is pretty much in on Isaac. Neither point could make me love this song any less. As to the rest of the song it's pretty much a dissertation on whether or not God is or isn't. Theatrically, and musically, I think it's a masterpiece. |
The Shins – New Slang Lyrics | 7 years ago |
In my opinion, this song is about relationships. The man and woman thing. Here goes, I;m about to piss off a bunch of people but remember it's just my opinion and I'm not anymore of a misogynist than your boyfriend is, to tell the truth. It's the curse in our mouth. Once things start to fall apart we want to be back to the mindless pet that we were at the start. It's easier than being alone. If you'd only take me back, I'd dance like an accordionist's monkey. Too late now. I'm sentient and I hate it. Too late too even be asking now. I'm sorry. I'm lonely. I envy the life that everyone has that I wanted and I wish they would bleed into their buns. It hurts but he doesn't realize how much better off he is. Or is he? Great song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Bon Iver – Skinny Love Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think in the third stanza he's talking to himself. You can picture him slapping his forehead: "I told you!!!!!" He's chastising himself for fucking this one up which we all have a tendency to do when we want something too much. Great song! |
Malcolm Middleton – Ballad of Fuck All Lyrics | 7 years ago |
"glued to the back of this bone mask" Brilliant! |
Malcolm Middleton – Ballad of Fuck All Lyrics | 7 years ago |
The music moves like a curtain in a soft breeze to me, while the lyrics strike like a blacksmith's hammer. "Like threatening doom dragging me darker and down." Fuck it. His way is broken. He wants out. He wants rescued. We all get tired. |
Iron & Wine – Flightless Bird, American Mouth Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Does this sound like the Beach Boys to anyone? I mean that in the most adoring way. FANTASTIC SONG |
Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I totally agree and I think it's one of the most poignant parts of a very moving son. A brave face, coming untied on the inside. If you have ever lost someone close to you to cancer this whole song touches to the bone. I suspect that even if you haven't you can still feel the depth of emotion. Sufjan is a little goofy, a little awkward (sometimes he reminds me of Andy Kaufman) but he is sincere and touching. He is also very talented musically. We are lucky to have him along on this journey. I hope that doesn't sound too corny. |
Gregory Alan Isakov – The Stable Song Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think jbarhead is right. "threw stones at the stars and the whole sky fell" Perhaps not conscious self-destruction but youthful risk-taking. "turn these diamonds bake into coal" let me try that one again. Beautiful song. This is a wonderful sight with very bright people and I am thankful to have found it. |
Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Pictures Lyrics | 7 years ago |
BTW, I think what the first verse means is that you told your friends you were dying. You crashed your car into the side of their house with disquieting news. |
Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Pictures Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I think tptinflate (sorry if i misspelled that) nailed it. Beautiful song, beautiful interpretation. Thanks to both. |
Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Like so many of Elliot's songs; breathtaking. In the place where he makes no mistakes. |
