The replies here, well apparently this is a classic, and I... well, I'm wandering around looking for the meaning of a phrase, assuming the writer had a hidden meaning; hoping he did. I appreciate serious. I also agree with the whole 'collective mourning', in this case it's the arse end of Capitalism, as least as we know it. We're fucked, as Martin Gore so eloquently puts it. that's my devotee, Depeche Mode. Collective nihilism in itself, perhaps. How about optimistic nihilism... we're fucked but we'll be ok. We need to collect in the positive. That in itself will remove the need to look outside at all, meanwhile, we can be nice. |

Well, addictions are running through Martin and through Dave right now, and Fletch has his problems, This is the tour from Hell, and the one that mould's DM's future. Martin has his quirks, after all, so really, this song could apply equally to both of them. I see it as some form of poly/junkie/SM multi-confessional without any apology. Needs must, all know at this stage that it is change or die. |

@[Carinapir:22721] I think a lot of what you say is true. I also feel the dark intensity of SM. Something hurts deep down here and the juxtaposition between anger and malice, and desire, revenge. There's a lot going on.
I would put good money on them both being switches, with Dom tendencies. I think SM is more Martin's thing though, you know, below ground level. |
