The song appeared on their album takk - which means "thank you" there a lot of topics going on the album about growing, preserving and childhood You are a fox you, you - in the air in the air, yes in the air in the air, yes you glide oh, oh peace oh no oh no, yes oh no oh no, yes A lost seafarer Alive Has returned home A lost seafarer Alive Has returned home a diver comes I think the lyrics are about the hero's journey, who travels into the unknown far from home or into his subconsciousness(the sea) The Fox could mean Fylgja which is a female supernatural being in old norse. It is believed that these spirits take the form of animals like foxes, bears etc. and accompany the newborn as protective spirit aswell as sealing their fate to the world. Only when the chosen person dies, they will reveal themself in their human female form equaling that of the valkyrie and the human spellbound by their dreadful appearance will die. The spirit will then step on their grave and set the person with their love free taking him/her up to valhall. In the text from sigur ròs the person is alive but a diver, which is maybe connected to his/her home/inner universe again. |

In my opinion this Song about "animal life" is grouped in three parts that cover the life the artist. The first part is about his home and origin and how he mirrorerd the expectations of his family due to a promising future. The next part gets introduced by "murmurs in the dark" it's about a phase in life which yet has to be born and thus throws the writer in a world ruled by despair where half remembered holidays and nostalgia palliate his pain. In the next lines he is the wanderer exlcuded from others without a position in this world. In the following lines he's aware of the of a new dimension to his existence "the ancient barricade" but still dwells in the rooms were he had to take a hard lesson "chambers a swallow made". In the next lines he follows down a path of choice triggered by another person which is somewhat responsible for his journey. But as his journey moves on just like life his feelings fade so does his knighthood fade "shed the dulling armor plates" for this person. The last lines let him reflect over his animal life phase. |

Well, I believe these lyrics are about becoming your own natural identity. At first we grow up in a situation were parents tell us what to do and what not. Later school defines what's good and what's bad and so will society, our partner and so on. But if you for some reason don't trust these instances because there is a shadow of a doubt, you can only trust what's inside you, your own values your desires, drive etc. You will become a "descendant of your own Madness" Drive, values and whatever are always rooted in the subconscious, therefore the line: "Just so happens to be right beneath me." from there everything else falls into place for the 'natural identity' "This test is worthless. It forms without a pattern but that's reasonable. It forms without a pattern, without reason. It forms without a pattern but that's reasonable. It forms without a pattern, without reason. Our friends became when there's room for thier name. This is not as strong as you thought. In a series of cells, im so lucky to be a part of. They didnt never be the same again (they will never be the same)." this is about becoming the self, note that 'friends' will be there after it had grown. It wont take as long as you have. It wont take as long as you have. It wont be as hard as you had. It wont be as hard as you had, no. these lines just there to appeal: when you have self-esteem you need self-worth Attention, he wont be enough. No, I dont love you. We wont be enough. (Don't let it get away) Dont let it take the stage. Dont let it take the stage. These last lines might be about infatuation and an ego that went waaay to big |

Yo, this song is a great outro/intro to the album. For me this song is about overcoming smth, be it friends or something you used to believe in. The First and and the last passages are parts from a foreign narroter (old beliefs, friends, etc.) these lines cause a conflict with narroter who is about to overcome them. "Wide is the line Separates the rivers from the dirt All the while I wonder who's the one Within the one and only eye (we all stood cut free) Within the one and only eye (we all stood cut free) Within the one and only eye (we all stood cut free) Within the one and only eye (Self-blinded to see through the veil)" The narroter feels he's stuck, he isn't in the flow anymore but at the very beginning he's kind of uncertain about it. But afterall there is only one truth: keep being yourself and stick to your own truth: "within the one and only eye" "we all stood cut free". The next part is about the new idea of him. There is a feeling of guilt mixed in. And he starts to question himself. "Can you see there's a child Standing idle by us in this mess Who am I to cause this emptiness" "this emptiness" is the hollow feeling he ges from his current situation. He's ready to face his situation and is taking action giving himself into this new idea and undergoing a change making emotions work on "Willing the sea to cleanse my soul Of all that I've been To bring me free to this clarity Clarity Trouble rolls in As the tides, they twist and make the turn Pain subsides And sweeps across the earth again Willing the sea to cleanse my soul Of all that I've been To bring me free to this clarity Clarity" The insight solidifies. The next and last part is about the end of his metamorphosis "I'm standing deep in these waters Bleeding free and bent To drag us onto the new visions Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only the void connects me With these mountains Of dust, blood and soil The stones born in the flames of truth Demand a sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice I'm standing deep in these waters Bleeding free and bent To drag us onto the new visions Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only the void connects me With these mountains Of dust, blood and soil The stones born in the flames of truth Demand a sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice "I'm standing deep in these waters Bleeding free and bent To drag us onto the new visions Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only loss fills my void Only the void connects me With these mountains Of dust, blood and soil The stones born in the flames of truth Demand a sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice A sacrifice Don't just bleed us and leave us to ourselves We will return so deeply harmed And we will shatter you And we will shatter you And we will shatter you" The final sacrifice he must pay to move foward is to "bleed out" his old friends/beliefs Album starts again with "tread lightly" |

While I agree with most parts of your interpretation I disagree with "his dead personality". His armour /defense is his will for survival because he learned life isn't about destruction but more about retaining what is inside of him. He'll protect his inner flame but he has to face his greatest enemy: himself. The party animal that goes all out is a conglomerate of all the fears he carries inside of him. "standing on a cliff" could be the option to choose between life and death and taking another breath is about to think things over and making decisions. |

For me this song is about a person who had some sort of crisis in life but there is some courage left or found ("the heal of the hurt, etc.") ("It's like the common law Was wall to wall And almost faded I've seen the gone to small The lost of law The almost made it") the person nearly lost it's courage ("It seems like mine to shine You'll always find the lonely ray") progress of getting hope back ("It's like the wall to fall The fall of all The laws are graded I've seen the lies that call The pictures tall The lines are made in It's like the fight to crawl My darling all you've lived your age") it's about life as a whole, different steps , promises and what it takes to move on |
