Queens of the Stone Age – Mosquito Song Lyrics 9 years ago
@[Wumpscut:2519] God is such a cop-out. I'm sorry, but the complexity of reality and why we are here and having no idea what would even exist BEFORE God or anything before THAT kind of makes it a silly theory.

Lorde – Team Lyrics 10 years ago
Indeed, very refreshing breath of fresh air. It's no wonder she's gotten so popular. While all the other blowjobs like 50 cent, Lil' Wayne, this fag, and that other fag, etc. etc. are all off regurgitating the same bullshit over and over again (and with no musical quality whatsoever) here she comes along (showing she has more than the 2 brain cells it takes to write that other crap) and probably thought, "okay, well, I'm gonna go over here and capitalize on the obviously unexploited resource of songs actually having meaning and more than 3 different notes repeated over and over and over again."

Also, I've yet to hear the retarded synthesized hollow snare beat struck in simple 4/4 time every quarter note in her songs.

I'm sorry, do I sound jaded? That's cause I am. I miss real music, so yes, she is a breathe of very fresh and much needed air. Who would have thought this genre of music could actually have artists who are actually artists?

Queens of the Stone Age – Regular John Lyrics 10 years ago
Anytime someone takes E (or any other drug for that matter) they think whatever they're doing is intended to be experienced on it. That's kind of a side effect, not reality. It's just a song and is totally awesome on and off E. To assume that they wrote it just for someone on E is a bit preposterous and probably completely an illusion.

Ha, ha, figuring out the meaning of this song is as easy as "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" (not that the meanings are alike in any way, though).

This song makes me feel like I've just watched "U-Turn" with Sean Penn. =P

Audioslave – Light My Way Lyrics 10 years ago
Finding the meaning of this song was way easier than finding the meaning of your post. So you're FOR or AGAINST this song being about a prayer to God?

YOU: "lmao at all the people thinking it's a prayer."

THEN: "to me he is talking to his girlfriend, asking her to guide him in a dark time."

THEN: "Yes, because we really pray to our girlfriends. You're really reaching to make this song something it's clearly not. This song is abviously about a man in his plea for God's guidance. "

THEN: "-Can't be any clearer than that. The answers are God's answers through the holy spirit."

THEN: "Stop trying to fabricate the truth, -that this song is about God."

I always thought he said "Life can only be understood in reverse, but must be lived for worth." Either way I got the same meaning out of it, except that I thought he was explaining that it was necessary to live it.

I like Mustain's lyrics better.

Well, I'm not sure that this is a song in tribute to Andy Wood. Not to say that it's not, it's just that I get different impression from this song and CC already wrote "Reach Down" and "Say Hello to Heaven" (Temple of the Dog) in tribute to Andy Wood. I guess he could do a third in the name of Soundgarden, though.

Soundgarden – Drawing Flies Lyrics 10 years ago
LOL, I gotta say if this is just him saying screw it and writing his frustration for not knowing what to write, "to the page" then that is funny.

However, I always thought this was like a message to all those who are usually negative. In this music genre there is a lot of negativity, and for the most part, with good reason, however, I always felt as though the message were along the lines of, if you are always negative and your view is that nothing is ever beautiful, you're kind of just sitting there like wet ashes with x's on your eyes.

My interpretation is more than probably wrong, because of some of the other lines, like "fire a loaded mental cannon to the page", but I suppose you could say that the page is "life" and that his mind has already pre-determined that life is so bad, and thus attacking (firing) at it.

Who knows. Awesome song, though.

Also, you said, "He believes in God, trust me I know this," and yet you didn't leave any proof. Now, I'm sure you're used to believing things without proof, you being so religious and all, but most of us don't like just taking people's (or book's) word for things.

And how do you know this? Forgive me if I don't (and I don't... I mean I really don't, in the slightest) believe you know this, unless you are him, and the chances of that are so slight, that I don't believe that either.

I must say, as much as I admire varangianguard's answer, no matter how long you have been a producer, you can never know (in this genre, at least) the true meaning of the artist's message, unless he/she states it. I have always felt more along the lines of your explanation, primarily because of the "Fear is strong and love's for everyone who isn't me." line.

I agree more with your interpretation, but at the end of your comment, you do sound a little bitter (not that I'm blaming you, I, and probably we all, have felt that way at times. However, just remember, every time you decide to love someone, you are taking a risk. So why then take the risk? Without that risk, there can be no rewards (of that kind).

Soundgarden – 4th of July Lyrics 10 years ago
Like "mitchgustavtherobot" said, "If Chris Cornell says it's about an acid trip then that's what it is."

However, that having been said, it would not only be a little bit disappointing to me, it wouldn't always make sense with the lyrics.

"Down in the hole, Jesus tries to crack a smile, beneath another shovel load" just REALLY REALLY sounds deeper than some random acid song like "Look at all the happy creatures dancing on the lawn" ("Looking Out My Backdoor" by Creedence Clearwater Revival). Also, the aforementioned 4th of July line, doesn't seem to fit with acid, other drugs, or especially cops.

If the song is, indeed, what you stated, then that is that, for sure, but it won't stop me from interpreting this song another way, it's just deeper and better that way, AND that is the glory of such good lyrics. Half the art is what it means to the listener.

Wow, that was quite poetic, what you said. Almost as poetic as the song.

Yeah, this song makes me feel like there's nothing more romantic than the end of the world. Maybe because that's when there would be no point in lying anymore. Kind of like how they consider heresy as evidence in a courtroom only if they were dying words. It's kind of like the world's dying words, how we would live and act in dying days of the world.

Am I the only one who was wholly disappointed when the movie "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" (starring Steve Carell) came out and this song wasn't on the soundtrack.

I wasn't surprised, though, considering how much older this song is than that movie, not to mention the fact that this song wasn't exactly a radio hit or anything.

Still this song fits that movie too well in message, theme, and mood to not be included. This song even has the line "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" in it.

Why does it HAVE to be about sex? I can see that it can easily be interpreted that way, but that's not how I take it. Just cause someone's going "lower" doesn't mean they're going down on anyone. You could be getting depressed, losing social or economical status, or many other things.

Awesome song regardless, though.

Queens of the Stone Age – Into The Hollow Lyrics 10 years ago
I always took this song as someone looking for love, but knows that he's not good enough for anyone (or at least not good enough for the kind of man/woman he/she is looking for).

Through self-reflection they see themselves as too flawed, and trying to fall in love with someone would be like asking them "don't you want to into the hollow", meaning the hollowness they see in themselves.

But, ultimately, never finding love.

Queens of the Stone Age – Mosquito Song Lyrics 10 years ago
I couldn't disagree more with Johnpaulmcrae's interpretation. I think this song is about, like ukcuf stated, about the frigidity of life. Of course, all songs (especially in this genre of music) are subject to interpretation, that's what makes it poetic.

That having been said, I'm not sure which sounds more rediculous to me: the song being about God or the song being about sex, oral or otherwise. To me, there exists ZERO reference to any god of any kind within the contexts of the lyrics here. Instead, there is quite the opposite, all of the words tend to point to the "meaninglessness" of our lives (how we will all just feed the worms and trees just as we have fed off of animals and just as mosquitos feed on us, as well).

Perhaps it is about the cycle of life, and not stating that it is meaningless, but just that the wheel keeps on turning, regardless of your hopes, dreams, pains, or pleasures. To use another analogy, I see the universe as the god of indifference. If you kept swept under an undertow, you get swept under and drown. That's all there is to it.

My interpretations and beliefs aside, I really don't think your interpretation was the desired message when Homme wrote this song.

Also, I do agree with you when you say that the universe is much more complex than just the big bang or evolution, however, that doesn't make them any less true (if, indeed, they are)

VAST – Temptation Lyrics 10 years ago
I think that it's possible that you may be reading that from the song because you are gay, not that there's anything wrong with that. That's what makes this genre of music so great, interpretation is unique and personal to everyone who hears it.

Great to see a new interpretation on this song, though :)

This is the song that got me into VAST, and I'm so glad that it did. While I believe Crosby's best album is the album this song comes from, V.A.S.T. (Visual Audio Sensory Theater), if it wasn't for this song I wouldn't know this album, Music for People, or Nude (all of my favorite albums by him).

While I appreciate the diversity in his style as of late, I really wish he would do another album more in the style of his first album (again, V.A.S.T.).

Sponge – Giants Lyrics 10 years ago
Sponge's first album is a beautiful masterpiece, and this song is one of the most beautiful songs therein. I can't believe this hasn't been commented on yet, so I thought I would take a crack at its meaning.

Firstly, it sounds obvious to me (correct me if I'm wrong) that he says "nobody's losin'" and not "nobody's listening"

To me it seems pretty straight-forward that this is about a man who's girl is cheating on him, hence the lines:

Do you think I noticed
That she came in late
Again
Do you think I noticed
She's wearing a new
Perfume
Do you think I noticed
How she wore her hair
Today

As for "nobody's losin'" I'm not sure how that fits in. Anyone else know more about this song or insight into its meaning?

"And not one supports the cause To leave the blood stay in the veins" - simply means that blood will be spilled from the veins. Not that it will be drank. That having been said, this song doesn't make me think "vampires" any more than it makes me think of "Jack Ass."

LOL, I did what you suggested and listened to The Blackouts - "No Tomorrow" and I gotta say, with so many songs having ever been written, just in this genre alone, there are bound to be certain tempo, chord, and rythm similarities. I "think" this is probably (hopefully) just a coincidence, however, I could be wrong, the musical similarities are definitely there, as you suggested.

Queens of the Stone Age – Kalopsia Lyrics 10 years ago
It's funny that none of the top answers analyze this song starting with its title.

Google Web-Definitions defines kalopsia as "The delusion of things being more beautiful than they are."

That having been said, this is where, what I think of as some of the best, most insightful, and most artistic lyrics in the song come in.

If you were only able to make out the eyes of something, like, say, in the dark or something, red eyes would be considered by most to be a bad thing (scary or hateful, etc.). However, using the word "rose" in the line "rose-tinted eyes" gives the delusion of these red eyes being more beautiful than they are.

Also, the line "I love you more than I can control" tends to suggest the same type of phenomenon.

Clearly, there is more to the meaning of this song than just "kalopsia" but it is, indeed, the title, so I tend to think that it has more to do with it than the suggested meanings have included so far, although, I'm not sure of the connection or just how much meaning "kalopsia" has to the overall song meaning.

Just thought I'd add my two cents here.

Queens of the Stone Age – A Song For The Deaf Lyrics 10 years ago
This is how I always took the song, as well. Clearly he sees music as an art-form and a complex way musicians have been voicing that art for centuries. It isn't his fault some can't understand the message. They are stubborn, and you can't fix that. Best to just let them be stubborn and none-the-wiser.

Clearly stubborn and ignorant are two different things. Ignorance does not necessarily lead to stubbornness, but stubbornness generally always leads to ignorance.
