Joni Mitchell – A Strange Boy Lyrics 6 months ago
Different themes seem to collide in this song, so the meaning is not entirely clear, but there is reference to how even the war could not turn him into a man, which of course is what the military always says it is trying to turn boys into, boys who go to war like the Vietnam War of Joni's time, yet return even more wounded and shrunk emotionally than before. Despite his immaturity, she still finds him attractive, giving him as she says seductive power over her; you don't have to be a mature man after all to have that power, this is one area in which he can succeed, namely to give her pleasure and companionship. She dotes on him all the same, buying him things even though he is incapable of making his own money. In the 1960s there was even a cult of innocence, but the extremely intelligent Joni, a poet, likely found friendship and company there even while recalling and putting into poetic form the magnetism that drew her to men like him, even while acknowledging he was a half-formed creature, bullied in school, sent to war as a young man, who was never given the chance by the world around him to be more; indeed, he even balks at her suggestion to start believing in himself and reach out for more, just as she did with her musical art, reaching to the heavens and getting there; but he resists such motivation, so in love is he with his counter-cultural defense.

Asia – Voice Of America Lyrics 2 years ago
This song was apparently a tribute to the influence of Brian Wilson songs upon the writers (Wetton and Downes)

The Specials – It Doesn't Make It Alright Lyrics 2 years ago
I can't find any evidence to support the statement above by Ghost that the song was actually written by Jake Burn of the Stiff Little Fingers. According to the 2nd LP by SLF, which covers the Specials song, it was written by Dammers of the Specials (and 2 others). We should consider this statement questionable until Ghost can offer any evidence. If he can, I'll delete my own comment. Thus, I would consider this great song a Dammers song unless evidence to the contrary emerges.

The Rolling Stones – Time Waits For No One Lyrics 12 years ago
A lyric at the height of Jagger's creativity, and one of the strongest and most haunting moments in the Stones' work. The beautiful guitar was the inspiration of Mick Taylor, who actually left the band after it would not let him be included as a co-songwriter with Jagger-Richards for having so marked the song in all its specialness as a result of his guitar contributions. This is likely why it is never played live - only Mick Taylor can play it. This is a song about all the things that don't last - our beauty, our homes that meant to much to us while we lived in them, the fame so many work hard to achieve, and even each and every passing moment. All we really have is each other and our moments to relish the miracle of creation: "hours are like diamonds" if we would only realize this wealth in each passing moment and not squander this treasure as we seek trivial things of passing, relative, but not inherent or lasting value. In my view the greatest song of the Stones, and one of the greatest songs in rock.
