I think this song is about someone who has been suffering from depression for a long time who contemplates suicide regularly. I see how some of the lines could be about cunnilingus but the rest of the lyrics, not to mention the tone of the song, seem to be about something dark. Plus the title is "All My Life", and I really doubt anyone anywhere has been eating people out since they were a kid, or that anyone would think cunnilingus is the solution to all of their life's problems. In any case here's another way to interpret the song. "All my life I've been searching for something" People happy with their lives usually don't have lifelong searches for 'something', especially if they don't even know what that 'something' is. "Something never comes never leads to nothing" He can't find that something, presumably something that would make him feel happy or at least not as sad. His search always leads to 'nothing' (maybe what he thinks his life is worth), he ends up back where he started, but with one less thing to have hope in. "Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close" Nothing makes him happy, but there's some hope... "Closer to the prize at the end of the rope" ...never mind, sounds like he wants to hang himself. "All night long I dream of the day" He dreams all night of the day he'll kill himself. "When it comes around and it's taken away" He feels better every once in a while, but it get's 'taken away' every time, it never lasts. "Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most" After it's taken away he's left with the feeling he had before the temporary happiness, the feeling he had most of his life: sadness. "Feel it come to life when I see your ghost" Maybe he's depressed because he's mourning someone, whether they actually died or he can't contact them anymore for some other reason (a bad breakup?[males are more likely to commit suicide after a breakup than females]). "Calm down don't you resist You've such a delicate wrist And if I give it a twist" Maybe his suffering makes him want to inflict pain on someone else, like a significant other. Or it could be his own (negative) internal voice trying to make him feel worse, such an internal voice is one of the main triggers for depressive episodes. "Something to hold when I lose my grip" If the previous lines referred to someone else then holding their wrist (or hand) may be something that helps him feel better when he 'loses his grip' on life. That would be kind of contradictory, but human relationships - especially romantic ones - can be complicated, just like us as individuals. "Will I find something in there To give me just what I need" Will his relationship with that special person help him find that something he's been searching for, e.g. happiness? "Another reason to bleed" Or will it give him more pain and make him even more depressed (is it even worth trying)? "One by one hidden up my sleeve (one by one hidden up my sleeve)" He's hiding his depressed side from others, and maybe even himself [many people have depression without even knowing it, they think it's normal for everyone to feel that bad all the time] "Don't let it go to waste," Some people may find inspiration to create art, analyze themselves, or think about deep ideas when they're feeling depressed. "I love it" Depressive episodes can make one feel comforted, safe and familiar if they felt that way for much of their life (especially if it was during childhood or adolescence). And maybe he enjoys that state of heightened creativity from the previous line. "but I hate the taste" But obviously it's a very painful experience, despite any silver linings he may find. "Weight keepin' me down" It's the worst kind of weight the be on someone's shoulders, it brings his mood and energy levels way down. "Will I find a believer Another one who believes" Maybe religion or finding others who follow his faith can help him feel better. After all, so many people say "finding God" or something along those lines "saved" them, maybe that's a good way to cure his depression. "Another one to deceive Over and over down on my knees" Or maybe it's just a bunch of lies and a way for someone to control him, why bother, it could make him feel worse if it doesn't meet his expectations. "If I get any closer And if you open up wide And if you let me inside On and on I've got nothing to hide (on and on I've got nothing to hide)" He really wants to tell someone about his suffering, but he thinks no one cares. Hopefully his significant other will listen one day. "Then I'm done done on to the next one Done done and I'm on to the next one etc..." The longer he's felt depressed, the more he sees it as just another challenge to face, again, and again, and again. That doesn't mean it becomes easier to manage, if anything it made it worse. It can get to the point where what feels worse than the depression itself is the knowledge that it will keep striking over and over and over again, with no end in sight, for the rest of his life. No wonder he thinks there's a prize at the end of the rope, he hasn't found that something yet and he may never find it. The one thing he hasn't considered is seeking medical attention, but who can blame him? Alot of people in Western society see depression as some kind of weakness or don't consider it a real disorder. |

I think that in this song LA represents the epitome of superficial, materialistic, individualistic, greedy, self-centred, etc. Western society. So what the narrator wants to see drown is all that bad shit most of us seem to strive for. Also, to say "fuck L. Ron Hubbard and fuck all his clones" in 1996, living in LA, takes alot of guts. Today most people know Scientology is BS, and alot of people also know its an evil cult that does awful things to its members, but back then it was just as popular - if not more popular - with Hollywood (LA) celebrities but without the widespread awareness of how bad it is. In other words, if the English speaking world was a high school then Hollywood (LA) celebrities would be the Mean Girls type "cool" kids that you're supposed to suck up to, emulate, and fear. For some no-name metal band to call them out for being fake probably ruffled a few feathers. So every time I hear that line I think: if they had the guts to say that back then, in LA, then why should I be afraid to say "fuck [current stupid fad]"? |

| Firstly I think the first two lines of the chorus are "Walked the path it warped my brain, never left me quite insane". If those are the real lyrics then I think the song is about the chaos and pain you feel inside when you take the "dark path" in life. | |

| I think this is about acknowledging the dark side within each of us. | |
| KoЯn – Did My Time Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think this song is about feeling like a prisoner in your own mind, either as the result of a mental disorder ("My mind is laughing at me"), because of life choices ("I am the one who chose my path"), or both. | |

| I think this a commentary on how delusional mainstream society is how you can see through the BS if you use psychedelic substances like LSD, psilocybin, DMT and mescaline. | |

This is probably about psychedelic substances like LSD, psilocybin, DMT, and mescaline. I read that they were the first band to perform live while on a hallucinogen. |

I think this song is about how if you think too much you lose touch with your intuition, emotional and spiritual side. This song has helped me alot. I wrote an essay about how it compares to the book "The Master and His Emissary", which is about how in Western society we overuse the right hemisphere of our brains (the logical side) at the expense of our left hemisphere (the emotional and spiritual side). Here's my interpretation. "Black then white are all I see in my infancy": I saw things in a simple, inaccurate way, thanks partly to my society favouring the use of the right hemisphere of the brain. "Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, lets me see": I began to see subtlety and complexity in life after I began to use my left hemisphere more. "As below so above and beyond I Imagine": a reference the Hermetic philosophy, patterns we notice on Earth can be extrapolated to apply to higher dimensions "Drawn beyond the lines of reason ...": Rational thinking has its own limits, for example logic can't justify the use of logic or give you a purpose for living. Life with only logic is empty, cold and meaningless. "Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind": Over use of the right hemisphere of the brain weakens your connection to the left hemisphere. "Withering my intuition": If you can't use your left hemisphere then you don't have access to intuition and creativity. "And I must feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines": Will power probably comes from the left hemisphere, it is the "Master" and the right hemisphere is its "Emissary" because only the left hemisphere can answer the question "Why?", to the right hemisphere everything is just a task to complete. "There is so much more, and beckons me to look through to these infinite possibilities": There's alot of life experience I'm missing out on by not using my left hemisphere enough. "Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.": Staying in the same old thinking patterns isn't going to lead me to new experiences. "Reaching out to embrace the random. Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.": Emotions, intuition and new experiences are random, I have to be okay with that if I want to live life to the fullest. And the rest of the song is how he feels once he has embraced his left hemisphere, his life feels more meaningful and less monotonous. |
