Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics 4 years ago
This song is about a man's disillusionment/dissatisfaction with his life as it is--he is disconnected from the people he cares about (his "wife" and "home") and the purpose behind his job. His job defines his life, taking up his time, creating his identity--the rocket man.
The reason why being "rocket man" is not a good thing is because he is 'running on fumes' so to speak. Rocketman is defined by this feature and the separation being the rocketman creates for him.
Furthermore, "I'm not the man they think I am at home" further isolates him from his loved ones because they are isolated from the truth he knows--that he is rocketman, or at least that he feels he living a lie at home.
The job he does not enjoy, that takes him away from his family by taking up his time, confusing him, that is his identity as rocketman, is a metaphor for the artist's defined-state of dissatisfaction with life. In other words, to be rocketman is to feel disconnected from the meaning of one's life/job and isolated from others, who are unaware the individual is or feels s/he is, "burning out his fuse up here alone" which is part of the isolation.

@[EllieElectriic:6796] that's a very interesting interpretation. I like it a lot!
Maybe this is a long shot, and it's just my interpretation, but to me "Kings and Queens" is about Native Americans and their history/legacy. That and the eagle call at the beginning makes me think of nature which then reminded me of Native Americans and Eagles in their art. Idk. Take from this what you will. I think "Hurricane" can have more than one meaning but I definitely like yours. Have a nice day. :)

@[ForSpareParts:5287] I have to disagree with a bit of what you said in the first paragraph. It's Because we deserved his love that He (Jesus) made that sacrifice. And once we (Christians) accept Jesus and are saved, those same mistakes that made us "scum" don't matter anymore bc it is in the past. I don't mean patronize. Thanks for being respectful of the religion.
But otherwise I also wanted to say that I completely agree with what you said about the song's meaning in the second paragraph. :)

I think this is about a woman who is in an abusive relationship, and the man she's with gives her very little love, but when she gets any she's happy or thinks she is, and by showing him gratitude for that love, and then in turn thinking he is happy, she stays with him in the abusive relationship.

Nirvana – In Bloom Lyrics 8 years ago
This song could just be about puberty and growing up.
"He's the one
Who likes all the pretty songs
And he likes to sing along"
Part of puberty is experiencing/experimenting with new feelings, and for boys I suppose they could be feminine.

"And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it mean"
The boys is ejaculating but he doesn't know that's what's happening.

I don't know. I could be wrong. ; l

I think this song is about a boy's innocence or naivety, OR it could be about homosexuality. I'm not sure which, but I'm sure my view of the song will change, so if I turn out to be dead wrong...oh well.

"He's the one
Who likes all the pretty songs
And he likes to sing along"
Two ways I see this: The first: socially the boy goes along with whatever new fad or hip idea comes along. This would make the idea of him joining a war easy enough to believe. The second: The boy does not fit the mold because not only does he like 'pretty' songs, he does not hide the fact that he does because he sings along to them--this could be a reference homosexuality.

"And he likes to shoot his gun
But he knows not what it mean"
This, to me, could be viewed in three ways. The first: is the naive, adventurous boy who joins a war, but he doesn't really know why the war is occurring or really why he's fighting it. The second: is he is much younger, and he shoots a gun to imitate a cowboy--a figurehead for most young boys as they grow up. But I gravitate more towards the first view. The Third: could mean that the boy is gay but he doesn't know what "gay" is, i.e. he doesn't know why he's attracted to the same sex, and a 'gun' is a way of thinking/feeling that is dangerous because it goes against the norms of society.

I know I've got a lot of ways to view these lyrics and this song. Take your pick. I could be completely wrong.
Thanks! :)

Nirvana – Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam Lyrics 8 years ago
I give credit to Jlmmy_Hoffa ( http://songmeanings.com/profiles/view/169132/ ) for my enlightenment on the meaning of this song.

This song makes me think of the Tell Tale Heart, where the narrator hears the heartbeat of the person he killed--a profession of his insanity and extreme guilt. The reason I say this is because the song seems to suggest that the person singing it looks as Jesus as the victim and the crucifixion/its symbolism as the heart beat.
Due to the guilt he [the narrator/singer] feels, he finds it is impossible to love Jesus because He is a manifestation of the singer's self-loathing for his own sins and past mistakes. He refuses to lie or cry over the mistakes/sins because they are just as painful to him as they are Jesus.
I.e. "I've committed sins, and I'm sorry, I regret them, I wish they didn't cause you pain, but what do you want to do? What's done is done and I can't take back it back. It hurts me just as much as it hurts you."

A very interesting song indeed.

@[Jlmmy_Hoffa:4869] I agree with what you said.
"Kurt is guilt stricken and is pretty much rejecting Jesus for all the wrong in his life. "Don't expect me to cry, For all the reasons you had to die. Don't ever ask your love of me." He is talking about Jesus' crucifixion and how he won't cry for the reasons HE had to die."
It helped me understand the meaning of the song. So thank you for your imput on the song's meaning! :)

My Chemical Romance – Sleep Lyrics 9 years ago
To me this song is about being a soldier or martyr.
"Don't you breathe for me
Undeserving of your sympathy
'Cause there ain't no way that I'm sorry for what I did"
=The person who is a soldier is saying that the people that try to keep up his morale or say that he couldn't help what he did, don't deserve sympathy for doing so, because he could help what he did as a soldier and isn't sorry for it.

"And through it all
How could you cry for me?
'Cause I don't feel bad about it
So shut your eyes
Kiss me goodbye
And sleep
Just sleep
The hardest part
Is letting go of
Your dreams"
=The soldier asks why loved one's cry for him when they wouldn't have the strength he did, and he tells them to kiss him goodbye and "sleep" i.e. close their eyes and don't give him or his thought another thought, and that the hardest part of sleeping is letting go of the "dream" or memory of him and being numb.

Sia – Elastic Heart Lyrics 9 years ago
This was such an emotional, disturbing, sympathetic, powerful, and sad music video for this beautiful song.
It seems like there was an implication of molestation between the man (a father) and the girl (a daughter). There's only so much damage the man can do before the girl becomes angry and begins to fight him, and eventually leaves "the cage" (the situation/problem or home). The man can leave the cage if he takes a route only he can take, and not the girl. I think that in terms of a father/daughter relationship that would be the father simply leaving the girl alone in the cage, in the wake of what had happened to put her in the cage. So he goes back for her. He wants to comfort her and reassure her he is not leaving her, but she misinterprets the touch and they begin to fight and move around the cage again. The girl is smaller and is able to leave the cage, for one because she is a child and is able to glide in and out of the problem which cages the man permanently, and only restrains her when she fights the man and/or is drawn back into the problem. The girl sees the man is trapped in the cage and feels sorry for him, and so she goes back into the cage. Then we see the man is acting like a father should. We don't exactly see the man as a paternal figure until he begins to make the girl laugh, and she begins to give him purpose and he begins to give her happiness. When the girl sees this paternal happiness/goofiness in him, she tries to lead him out of the cage. I'm guessing the cage, in this way, is supposed to represent the relationship between the two that the act of molestation created. At the beginning of the video, it's just a man and a girl fighting with no connection, in a cage, their relationship is based on physicality. The girl is just a girl and the man is just a man and that's how they see each other. And by the end we see that the girl (daughter) wants the man (father) to be happy and free from guilt over his heinous act, because if she can forget it and it's implications, then she wants him to do the same. But he can't, and he tries to pull her back into the cage, and the struggle is still ongoing.
This is just the way I see it, and I could be dead wrong. Feel free to add to it, or tell me what you think the song/music video is about and implies, but please don't hate because this is just mt interpretation of it. Thanks.

submissions
Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics 9 years ago
From the music video, I'd say the song is about the need for control. One person has control, or is able to manifest it in his dream while at a party, It also seems to suggest that this first person feels the need to lash out at injustice and wrongs done to someone he cares for. The other suggests the lack of control someone feels, and in the dream the second person turns to the first person for help and protection. Both dreamers/partakers in the music video are connected to each other. They both trust each other and feel they need to go to the other for help or protection or to protect.
This is just my interpretation of the music video and I could be wrong so don't quote me and please don't hate me if, by your standards, I'm off the mark. Thanks.

Cold – When Angels Fly Away Lyrics 9 years ago
This is just a shot in the dark, but I think "it's the saddest thing when angels fly away" it could mean that the singer has lost his sense of purpose, and doesn't feel that he deserves to be given the title of an angel, i.e. someone who protects and is highly regarded, so maybe that could be what he means by "anges fly away". I don't know. Just a thought.

I see how people could think this song was about homsexuality.
And to run with that idea, I'd then have to say that "God complex" could reference to a boy who doesn't want to admit he likes boys because he feels that by admitting he's gay, he's inferior, so his god complex is not being able to admit that.
Just a thought though.

We're supposed to assume an atheistic perspective: "If God exists, why are their such wicked people in the world pretending to be people they're not?"
In the end, the lyrics are a (hilarious) variation on a song from The Sound of Music, which suggests that the world is not what it seems at all.

Panic! at the Disco – This Is Gospel Lyrics 9 years ago
I think this song is about someone on death row or people on death row in general. I really don't know, just at first glance that's what it seemed to be about.
"This is gospel for the fallen ones
locked away in permanent slumber" people in permanent slumber = those who are condemned to die.
"This is gospel for the vagabonds[...] led away by imperfect impostors" led away by imperfect imposters = if you were a criminal sentenced to die or do time, you would think that those who stand for the law are hypocrites and imposters.
Again, this is just from looking at the song for the first time.

Rain and fire crossed that ocean
Another mad man done struck again
Rain and fire crossed that ocean
Another mad man done struck again
(This means people from the U.S. have come across the ocean to kidnap Africans to use them as slaves in the U.S.)

Sitting down here fallout shelter
Paint my walls, twice a week
Sitting down here fallout shelter
Think about the slaves, long time ago
(This, I think, is calling the slave cabins a fallout shelter or a place of safety. "Paint my walls twice week" this may be a cultural reference to the fact that slaves used to paint the walls of their homes blue, thinking that color was sacred and would keep evil spirits or the devil out of there home)

Ten million slaves crossed that Ocean
They had shackles on Their Legs
Ten million slaves crossed that Ocean
They had Shackles on Their Legs
(The chorus tells us the song is in fact about slavery)

I love this song, and to me, it's about politicians and leaders who know that what they say doesn't matter because the "hook" brings people back. deadmau5 – Professional Griefers (feat. Gerard Way) Lyrics 10 years ago
If you want to search for a deepish meaning in this, the "I" that is in the song could be referring to man himself because man made drugs which ruin people. Hence the "Another world outside that’s full of all the broken things that I made."
And I guess you could say the drug references, and how the protagonist of this song uses drugs, is a way for the person to mask and do away with guilt through the very drugs he or she made.
This is just a thought though, so don't hate me. :)
