| Kimbra – Withdraw Lyrics | 13 years ago |

This is essentially a love song to God. I agree with the person above who says its about "Falling in love and letting the rest of your aspects in life aside." Kimbra is talking about falling in love with the Lord all over again. She actually says Lord a few times throughout the song but no one's version of these lyrics seem to insert that word. If you notice she says : Now I can't spend a minute Now I can't steal the time I've lost all my friends like money I've lost all my men to the sky I can't keep your loving from my mind It's worth more than gold, crystals and pride She cant get back the time she was wasted on the love of the world i.e gold, crystals, and pride she has even lost friends and men over her love of the lord but nothing compares to the time she has lost searching for him in all the wrong places. "cant shake these stars from me," is a line that might refer to something of her celebrity or popularity..things that distract her from her love of the lord. By having a relationship with God prior to her becoming famous or fulfilling her aspirations she can never forget how important God is in her life. She might forget or feel herself slipping away but the lord is always at her side showing her his presence in her life. Thats the reason why she cant withdraw his heart from hers. Kimbra is a brilliant lyricist so this song could literally have two interpretations a secular "true love" context or a spiritual "amazing love" of the lord context. Now some may feel that this is not the case but Kimbra is a believer and has many spiritual references in her music. She wants to cater to her spirituality because it is something that defines her. She loves gospel music and soul music which is obviously found in her sound. She has even been featured in a christian e-zine out of Australia. Kimbra is doing a good thing for pop music and christian music in a sense. Providing evidence that one can be in the world but not entirely of the world, its a constant battle of the flesh. Its ok that she admits to being human but that she answers to a higher power. I find her kind of music inspirational. This song is a prime example of her talent. |
