I really don't think this is about child abuse - I've had that kind of an experience and the feelings described by this song are totally opposite to the ones of being a victim of abuse. I think it's losing your virginity to a person when it meant more to you than it did to them - knowing this all along, but not being able to say no when they call. |

I think it's Morrissey singing to somebody, maybe even a younger version of himself, who has an awful lot of determination to "make it" but just isn't doing the right things...but he loves "her" to some extent, so protects her graciously...but then realizes that she could possibly make it and now he doesn't want her to because he is scared of being forgotten and maybe this is why he wasn't too supportive of her, but eventually makes his peace and feels happy for her |

Sorry to all you hopeless dreamers, but Morrissey and Marr were never in love. It was always Johnny and Angie and Morrissey. I think this song is actually about NOT being in a relationship, the "I Won't Share You" is actually a statement to oneself, Morrissey isn't willing to risk his "freedom and guile" for the affections of someone else, and maybe when he tells people this it seems really cruel "the note I wrote as she read" --- but it's not a cruel statement, Morrissey is just stating he isn't ready or willing to share parts of himself with somebody else, and he's accepting that it's a changeable thing "life tends to come and go".... |

I think this is Morrissey addressing a younger version of himself really, he's recently said that his celibate phase is well and truly over, but he regrets remaining celibate for so long and not sowing as many wild oats as it were, as he could have done. I think this is just about the adolescent years, and about the people we loved, hated and cherished as teenagers...yet never spoke our sentiments to anybody due to self deprecation. Adolescence can seem like a prison, a never-ending winter, You try to talk to adults, but they never seem to understand, so you turn to things you probably shouldn't. Yeah, I think it is just about the pains and perils of being a teenager. It's bloody horrible. |

I think perhaps that the person in this song has a friend whom they were madly in love with, but their friend "didn't bat for their team" --- 'I know it's over and it never really began', and now the friend is in a relationship, happily, but feels guilty about not returning the person's love, making her/him sad and turn to the wrong things, like sex, drugs, etc (loud loutish lover) but still can return to the unconditional love of his/her partner, which the person has never known, apart from maternal love. There is nothing seemingly wrong with the person, perfectly attractive, pleasant and clever, but some people just don't meet the one they love and who loves them. The differing sexuality kills any hope of a relationship between the person and the friend "love is natural and real, but not for such as you and I my love", but this doesn't stop the person's feelings and he/she has never felt so alone and is in the depths of despair, crying for his/her mother. |

I think it's about how people who don't deserve it seem to get EVERYTHING, now, when actually you need it and how we never seem to get what we want. It's those horrible, stupid and lazy people who get it all. But it actually isn't so. By being true to yourself about what you genuinely want to do, you will win out in the end because you will be happy and at least living your own. Even if the person has "everything" now, it's only what's touchable, they have no genuine fulfillment. They aren't really happy. I think it's about somebody with their loved one, having a wonderful night, awakening almost. Their just...happy. Where they want to be in life forever. So I'm not sure if it's a death wish...entirely. I think it's just a really passionate statement of love. You love someone so much and you're so happy that you feel you could just die. although it seems it is based on fact, which it probably is, I think it's applicable to anyone, abused or not. At one point in our lives or another we all feel it's too much, we have too many responsibilities/burdens (homework), we feel unloved, unattractive, pessimistic and hermited. Through all this we keep a strong front, but there comes a time where we need to "take a bow" because it is impressive what we were doing, but of no use to us or anybody else any longer. So we throw the burdens and false responsibilities onto the fire and see things the way they actually are. In truth, there is ALWAYS someone who loves you and who will fancy you, so we need to drop the insecurities and the labels we put on ourselves and other people, as shown in the "take my hand and don't be shy" lines. I don't think it's as simple as a suicide. I think it's about falling in love, and genuinely in love, realizing what an oxymoron it is. As we all know, Morrissey is quite a hermited man, so perhaps falling in love, just so scary because finally, he needs to let his defences down, which aren't in his mind, but out there in the world as a lyric in the final verse shows. I think when he sings "I'm ending my life" I think he means life as he knows it. He's diving into the unknown and he's asking his sweetie pie to be there to meet him, love him. |

This is just one of many interpretations, but I just think it is about the build up of pleasure with the one you love, and how you want it to last but when you reach your peak, it feels like anything is possible, anything. Of course it isn't, and shortly you realize it, but you just don't care, you're just happy to be in the arms of the one you love. For me, I feel it's about sex, but sex with someone you love. |
