The greatest rock song of all time.

I have no idea what it means, but this song kicks ass.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers – Dogs on the Run Lyrics 8 years ago
A favorite Tom Petty song. A masterpiece lost on the scattered Southern Accents album, Dogs on the Run is a brilliant song.

Bruce Springsteen – Balboa Park Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is a lyrical interpretation of the LA Times article: http://articles.latimes.com/1993-04-03/news/mn-18653_1_san-diego-s-balboa-park/2

Jane's Addiction – Been Caught Stealing Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about a man who likes stealing. When he sees something, and he doesn't want to pay for it, he steals it. His girlfriend also likes to steal.

Rod Stewart – Stone Cold Sober Lyrics 10 years ago
Stone Cold Sober is a stone cold ripoff of Keith Richards' Happy. Although I'm sure Keith would raise a glass and toast to that.

Sturgill Simpson – Turtles All The Way Down Lyrics 10 years ago
This is what happens when you give a hillbilly LSD.

Bruce Springsteen – Iceman Lyrics 11 years ago
Angels and devils, Heaven and hell, a preachers daughter...and an iceman. Resurrected for Tracks. A song Springsteen never plays live. Probably for the same reason it was discarded from Born to Run. I have a hard time believing that Iceman was even finished. This is a mess.

The Pretenders – Watching the Clothes Lyrics 11 years ago
I heard an interview with Miss Hynde where she discussed her initial fame. She described it like this: I have a Top 10 song, Brass in Pocket, I'm booked to play Top of the Pops, and I find out my roommate just died. I took his clothes to the laundry that night. That's what I remember about my week of being famous.

I came here to see if there was a connection in the lyrics. Probably not.

Foreigner – Hot Blooded Lyrics 11 years ago
One of the most incredibly stupid songs in rock history. I challenge anyone to come up with a dumber pair of verses than "you don't have to read my mind / to know what I have in mind". I think it is a rocking tune by a very good band at its peak, but the lyrics look they were written by a 13 year old in the bathroom.

Queen – Under Pressure Lyrics 11 years ago
I don't know precisely what this song means, but I suspect it's rooted in the AIDS epidemic. I do know that the following lyrics still move me to lump-in-the-throat territory after countless listens: "love is such an old fashioned word, and love dares you to care for people on the edge of the night. And loves dares you to change our way of caring about ourselves. This is our last dance, our last chance, under pressure."

Bruce Springsteen – American Skin (41 Shots) Lyrics 11 years ago
This is a brave, brilliant song. Who will write these songs when Springsteen hangs it up?

Aerosmith – Sight For Sore Eyes Lyrics 11 years ago
Ugh, an ugly song from a great band. The "Sight for Sore Eyes" is drugs, and this isn't a pretty tune. A low point for Aerosmith, a low point for rock.

Jason Isbell – Elephant Lyrics 12 years ago
This is a brilliant song. To me, listening to this song is like watching a movie.

Bruce Springsteen – The Price You Pay Lyrics 12 years ago
The Price You Pay is about facing the consequences of bad choices. A great performance, but not alot of optimism or inspiration here, perhaps that's why Mr. Springsteen rarely performs it live.

Huey Lewis and the News – Jacob's Ladder Lyrics 12 years ago
This song was released at the peak of "televangelism". Pat Robertson graced the cover of TIME in February 1986. A "fan dancer" is an erotic dancer. In 1986, evangelist Jimmy Swaggart began on-screen attacks against fellow televangelists Marvin Gorman and Jim Bakker. He uncovered Gorman's affair with a member of Gorman's congregation, and also helped expose Bakker's infidelity with Jessica Hahn (which was arranged by a colleague while on an out-of-state trip).[12] These exposures received widespread media coverage. Gorman retaliated in kind by hiring a private investigator to uncover Swaggart's own adulterous indiscretions with a prostitute.

Van Halen – Tattoo Lyrics 12 years ago
Sounds like old DLR-era Van Halen to me, without the long, tapping solo. Fat, crunchy guitars. Its a funny song ("housewife to bombshell in the time it took to get a new tattoo") with a serious turn at the end.

Bruce Springsteen – Death to My Hometown Lyrics 13 years ago
"Death to My Hometown" alludes to the current global financial crisis.

Mr. Springsteen uses Celtic rhythms (even a touch of an accent in his voice) to give the effect of an old war anthem, while pointing out that while "marauders" come in different forms than you are used to, the result is the same: death to your hometown.

You've been warned.

Bruce Springsteen – Queen of the Supermarket Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the largest blemish on Mr. Springsteen's resume. This isn't just the worst Springsteen song. It may actually be the worst song in the history of recorded music.

This is not the same guy who wrote "Roulette".

Bruce Springsteen – Jack of All Trades Lyrics 13 years ago
Perhaps the finest song in Bruce Springsteen's vast collection. And I am proud to write this on the very day it was released.

Bruce Springsteen – Out In the Street Lyrics 13 years ago
"Black and whites" are police cars. See "Working on the Highway".

"Black and whites" are also cookies at my local deli, dipped in white and dark chocolate. But cookies can't cruise by.

Bruce Springsteen – Stolen Car Lyrics 14 years ago
"I want to get caught but I never do."
"I ride by night and travel in fear that in this darkness I will just disappear."
"Nobody sees me when I drive by." is the last verse of the "Tracks" version.

I believe the main character in "Stolen Car" is already dead, which makes the song take on a much different meaning, especially the section about the love letters.
