i always thought i understood this song (untill i came here and read some comments), to me its a story like a roadmovie or about an adventure, like in 'dungeons and dragons' role playing, fantasy style but now i reae it was automatically wriiten by some mystical power like most good songs, and its about all that you see in it: crowley, or a junkie and many more meanings you see in it. the lord of the rings connection is there because all settings are in same medieval style, it was the same time : hippies, crowley revival, new age, dungeons and dragons,....lord of the rings was written earlier i think but it was read more since that same era 1970's,..... but it's also a tarot card reading (or i-tjing) for how to write a song, hihihihi |

annie christian = any christian but its not necesarily about christians its about extremists The first verse depicts how someone can become like that : missed chance to be a leader. The song couples some usa media attention about crimes in the usa in 1980's, assasanation attempt on reagan , murder of john lennon an an event in atlanta that i dunno bout. The lyrics try to find a common ground and that is expressed in the title ( any christian can become an extremist, in usa surely ) Prince the artist will spend his life in taxicabs for being afraid wind up like the next killed celeb.

i used to think that this song was about spirituality in a sort of buddhist way, and it always puzzled me what they meant . thanks to you guys i found that its not as deep as it sounds, its about human society and about connecting to eachother, its a sad and lonely song then, the darkness and the silence are not big abstract ideas, but rather emotions, hm... not so happy :(

i always thought that this song was about sex since the first time i heard it, all the innuendo are known or recognised by me even though english is a foreign language to me. i also read in those days that it was about liberation and peter's new creative direction and new found spirituality, i think that even if this song is not about sex, it must surely and purposely have been made to sound like sex, its too obvious for it not to be |

these lyrics are not by syd barrett , they are literary taken from i-tjing, credits to the translater ! i-tjing is an oracle book ( ancient chinese) that predicts the future.
chapter 24 is about ...well : read the lyrics, thats what it says and a informed reader / fortune teller can make an answer for a question from that , example : question: is my wife faithful and loving me, when the coins or sticks that fall point to chapter 24 then the meaning will be something like: you wife will RETURN to you always, this is a simple example it goes way deeper than that but thats the basics
