The Cranberries – Twenty-One Lyrics

I think that this song (just as "Ridiculous Thoughts") is about the Devil (remember Dolores is a devout catholic): she's just asking him to "leave her alone", just as in "Ridiculous Thoughts" she's askingh him to not "make fun of her anymore", and that's all folks! |

Therapy? – Safe Lyrics

The first part of the song (until "i'm clinging, etc.) is surprisingly hermetic by Therapy?' standards; maybe Kafkaian references (the colony, the bugs,...)? |

Another creepy "lovesong", kind of their trademark, in the 90's at least... |

It just occured to me, a creepy interpretation could be that the pregnant girl could have klled herself, and the singer could be God or an angel trying to console her...

Fantastic b-sides of "Chuch of noise", one of the best tongue-in-cheek song ever! "Life is a business that is working at a loss."- Arthur Schopenhauer. |

Paradise Lost – Channel For The Pain Lyrics

For me it's one of their very best, but it's impossible to choose one best anyway, it depends how you feel at the moment. Obviously, a song about loneliness, probably Nick's "favorite" topic, for some reason known by himself only (he-he), but this song in particular evokes me Travis Bickle' state of mind, in the movie "Taxi Driver". |

Paradise Lost – Blood Of Another Lyrics

At first, it sounds like an epic song, as if we're in the midst of a medieval battlefield, but as lot of songs of the album drug-related double-entendre come to mind as well: "blood of another" as in a shared syringe, "the wasting pain one trip you cannot buy", etc. ("Death is not selective...", maybe the fear of HIV infection, and/or OD...)
Actually, now that Im think of it, the members of PL may have experimented with drugs, after the success of "Draconian Time" (or even before?), which could in turn explain their desire to experiment with electro-rock/dark-pop afterwards! |

Once again, it could be about drug addiction also, perhaps there's a lot of double-entendre and different interpretations are possible... |

Paradise Lost – Mercy Lyrics

It seems to be about drugs, like a lot of other songs in this One Seconde album: I guess Nick Holmes had a lot of friends in it, but these musicians are way too workaholic (and maybe a tad alcoholic) to get themselves in these troubles... |

Depeche Mode – Barrel Of A Gun Lyrics

I had an epiphany last week, listening this song and its remixes for the millionth times, and always finding something lacking about the too much obvious interpretation that this is about Dave's situation at the time of recording: it's actually about Kurt Cobain's suicide, it makes perfect sense in that way, just think of the title itself! It's still indirectly about Dave, who stated how close he felt to Kurt Cobain's ordeal of dealing with success... BUT when the song says "I never agreed to be your holy one". it's true of Kurt, not Dave, who was perfectly happy at the time of Violator (he said that when he was singing 'World in my Eyes' on stage, it reflected exactly how he felt), until he got overwhelmed (because of drugs, naturally): whereas Kurt didn't enjoy success at all, Dave enjoyed it too much! |
