I just got dumped by my boyfriend of about a year and four months. Basically, I got played. This song makes so much sense to me in that context. I was delusional, I would make up excuse after excuse for questionable things he did in the relationship because I was high on the good feelings he gave me. It seems to me like Katy may have written this song about a similar relationship. Now that I know I got played and that he never cared, it hurts so bad. I "read the stars so wrong" but now I'm "wide awake" to what really happened and I almost feel like a new person... "born again out of the lion's den".

I think this song is a warning to anyone who encounters anything that could lead to destruction in their lives - drugs, alcohol, a person, even an innocent experience, saying that "once is enough" and to move on, move along, keep moving. Even if it feels like you need it or things will never be quite the same without it, move on, or you will eventually trap yourself into becoming addicted.

My boyfriend has just broken up with me because I've been feeling a little sad lately and he thinks I spend too much time feeling sorry for myself - he's always laughed at people like that, he thinks depression isn't real and that everyone who gets into a slump every now and then does so for attention. I think that is basically what is happening in this song as well. I've seen this happen in other people's lives, and now it's happening in mine.

The train part makes me think of the very first movie, when Harry rides the train to Hogwarts for the first time. His whole life starts there, he meets his best friends and his enemies and is carried off to his "kingdom". It made me think of how those characters probably just wished they could get back on that little train and have everything be back to the way it was at first.
