Incubus – Vitamin Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also the part about the sleep machine... In the book.... individuals are in a state of sleep where they are fed repetitive strings (called hypnopaedia)...which basically eliminate individuality and emotions from society.... |
Incubus – Vitamin Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song has always reminded me of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World... especially when he uses the word "somnambulist"--I always thought of that as a reference to the "soma" in the book. If you've read the book you could perhaps see what I mean. Here are a few quotes from the book..."I don't understand anything," she said with decision, determined to preserve her incomprehension intact. "Nothing. Least of all," she continued in another tone "why you don't take soma when you have these dreadful ideas of yours. You'd forget all about them. And instead of feeling miserable, you'd be jolly. So jolly," "Swallowing half an hour before closing time, that second dose of soma had raised a quite impenetrable wall between the actual universe and their minds." |
Straylight Run – The Words We Say Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think miracle and emokidd both have the right idea, i think it's kind of a combination. the lines: "we always hurt the ones we never really loved, we always think we are alone, we're always wrong" could be about staying in a relationship you know isn't right for you but perhaps has been going on for awhile and maintains some level of 'comfort' and are afraid of being without that. "we'll live and die with all the things we recognize" could be referring to that comfort. when you finally find someone you truly love, you would do anything you could to not hurt them. i think when you experience both ends of that you can understand. maybe the two people will just never really see eye to eye, "the words we say take different shapes" could be about never really being able to fully communicate with each other. the song also talks about how we know words are better left unspoken when we know they are just causing hurt and that you can only do so much to get your point across. i think this goes along with the idea of wasting your time on something negative and knowing that the hurtful arguing isn't going to help anything progress. i think the song is using the relationship as an example but in a broader context the point can be how we stop ourselves in many ways from being happy and truly enjoying life/living to our full potential. whether it is thinking we are alone when we're not, staying in a destructive relationship, waiting around or settling for less in regard to anything instead of going after what you really need or want because of fear or whatever other reason, focusing on failures or negatives rather than allowing yourself to move forward ("i'll count my sins") |

Coldplay – We Never Change Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think this kind of has something to do with the whole 'if you live in a glass house you shouldn't throw stones' not really the stone part of it but i think in this song he is saying that he's not perfect, he doesn't want to screw up but making mistakes is human, it's bound to happen now and then inevitably. he sins every day but if he lived in a wooden house it wouldn't be visible to everyone, thus easier to make friends. living in a glass house to me means that each and every one of us is vulernable in our own ways, wanting to live in a wooden house, signifies to me that one wants things to run smoothly without being vulernable to making mistakes and having weaknesses, or to having them be visible to others. |
Zebrahead – Feel This Way Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i said get back was my fav, but i think it's tie with this!!!!!!! All that I need is my emancipation Got to find a way to get away Got to find something to make me want to stay Cause all that I see is jaded Now I can't see straight cause I'm faded Stressed cause of strain and you know that I'm leaving today And I care what you say, but I feel this way. i know i've felt that way before! |
Zebrahead – Get Back Lyrics | 18 years ago |
my favorite zebrahead song :-) |
Eve 6 – Amphetamines Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think the title could be amphetamines because the relationship is addicting almost like a drug. if you don't let go you'll end up just waiting by the phone, you'll never recover unless you cut yourself off. even when you do you'll still want that person to call and wonder about you or think about you from time to time, even though you know the relationship wasn't working. |
Jeff Buckley – Lover, You Should've Come Over Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one what a powerful line |
Something Corporate – I Woke Up In A Car Lyrics | 18 years ago |
what does this part mean Maybe I could live forever If not ever I had known That you'd be waiting there whenever I am all alone But here I am |
N.E.R.D. – Baby Doll Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the rest of the lyrics: Where have you been all my life Violets are blue And I'll be too If you leave ‘Cause I just met you Repeat Chorus You're my pop rocks You're my cotton candy When the beach is hot and sandy You're my water You're my morning shower Subconscious melody You're my LSD Someone's perfect daughter 3x Roses are red Yellow and white Where have you been all my life Violets are blue And I'll be too If you leave ‘Cause I just met you 4x I'm Sorry But I got to Got to go I gotta go I just met you |
Jason Mraz – Song for a Friend Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i think this is the best song on mr. a-z. |
Oasis – Let There Be Love Lyrics | 19 years ago |
this song could mean so many things....what if it is from the perspective of someone that died...like the cry over me part is bcos of death. when it says i hope the weather is calm as you said up etc, that means he hopes the rest of her life until she dies is pleasant....."Shake up your tired eyes The world is waiting for you May all your dreaming fill the empty sky" he wants them to get on with their life....then he say's he'll always be by their side.....but that they can't let life and all of the love in the world pass them by. or something along those lines mayb, i don't know ;) |
Fall Out Boy – Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Athlete – Tourist Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Wilco – How To Fight Loneliness Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
innerconflict. you can't hide from the truth in your own lies. |
Ben Harper – Roses From My Friends Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i agree erdysouth! and how true is that too...when someone you love and really care about hurts you it can seem to hit you 10 times harder than if the hurt or fakeness were coming from an enemy or random person. |
Matt Wertz – I'm Sorry Mary Lyrics | 21 years ago |
its seems like in some relationships one person does all the loving, and the other just lets themself be loved...maybe there is a lack of communication...perhaps the other person is just never satisfied with who you are and your love..or they are verry critical and fault finding, when really love is the best thing anyone can give.....this can just be so emotionally exhausting for the one doing all the loving....the other just taking and taking, after a while there is nothing more you can give, perhaps you blame yourself (eg, would you change me. if i could, would you want me to) and eventually you wake up from the illusion that the one you love is so great and put and end to the self destructive situation.... |
Counting Crows – Round Here Lyrics | 21 years ago |
It makes me think of how you could do all the right things as you're growing up, you can accomplish so much, you can be in a place one might think is amazing, doing what you always wanted to do, you can have it all but wherever you are, no matter what you do or have…when you add it all up, in your head you can still get nothing if you are missing what is most important, you will still feel empty. You will always see nothing round here, here being anywhere, without the one you love. |
Howie Day – Madrigals Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Michelle Lewis – If I Were You Lyrics | 22 years ago |

Counting Crows – New Frontier Lyrics | 22 years ago |
lyprulz you are EXACTLY right, i bought the new album the day it came out and the first thing that came to mind when i heard this song, was that it was the absolute worst i have ever heard by counting crows! they should have def. left this track off!! but the rest of the cd makes up for it ;) august and everything after is an amazing cd, i love the whole thing, including ghost train. some songs you have to listen to for a while, to truly appreciate them. (this one won't be one of those haha) and in hanginaround, there really isn't that much there to appreciate! but it's catchy i guess... oh welll this song is by far worse! |
Counting Crows – Goodtime Lyrics | 22 years ago |
this is an AMAZING song, one of my favorites from the new cd :) |
Counting Crows – Another Horsedreamer's Blues Lyrics | 22 years ago |
well songs mean different things to different people, which makes them all the more amazing. but i am kinda seeing eye to eye with viahavta and cleverhandle on this mostly bcos i can personally relate to the lyrics. i don't have a horse, nor do i bet on them or want one, nor am i a prostitute!! but just symbolically what he is saying, it's almost like he is writing about me. it's amazing how he can capture someone elses precise emotion....like he knows exactly how i feel. strange. but amazing song by an amazing band! |
Unwritten Law – You're My Angel Lyrics | 22 years ago |
