I think the first verse is about Gary Lightbody (or whoever the songs about) coming to terms that he has to stray away from childhood and become an adult. He realized he has to be mature, and he's taking his first steps toward that. Next verse is about how he is regretting all the dumb things he did as a kid, but he can't help but remember how fun it was at the time. The final verse is him accepting his Punishments for those dumb things, but he still wants something, so he's promising whoever is punishing him that he'll do anything they ask if they do this for him. Not one of my deeper interpretations, but it's the best I got |

This song has many meanings to me. First, "we'll do it all, everything on our own" part means that they have eachother and that's all they need. Second, "If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lay with me, and just forget the world?" I think that means that he wants her to spend time with him."I don't quite know how to say how I feel, those three words they're said too much, they're not enough". He doesn't know how to express how he really feels...saying I love you isn't enough. The chorus I think is saying that they don't have to listen to anyone else. "Lets waste time Chasing cars, around our heads". I think that's him saying they should spend time together and just daydream. |

I think this song is not really about a broken relationship. But rather a couple got in a fight, and he irrationally left in a sudden burst of rage. He then starts to regret it, and he wants to apologize, but he can't bring himself to do it. He begins to think about their relationship, the pros and cons. He says that "it's beginning to get to me, that I know more of the stars and sea, than I do of what's in your head". He knows more about other things than he does about her, maybe because she is secretive. "Lash out first, at all the things we don't like, or understand". Maybe this means she has a short fuse. But at the same time he loves her unconditionally. He says "I would carry you on my back, after our enemies attack." He'd do anything for her. And the line "You are the only thing that makes sense, I just ignore all this present-tense". He can't stop thinking about her, and she is the only thing he thinks about. She's the only thing that seems right in the world. |

This song really means a lot to me. Cause I've been in love with my best friend for quite some time, but she really never expressed interest in me. At least not in the same way I did her. A bunch of her girlfriends were telling me to just wait...that she'd fall for me in time. So I waited 2 long years. And still nothing. She was dating some douchebag womanizer that always hurt her, yet she continued to date him. She found out a few months ago that her douchey boyfriend had been cheating on her and she got mad. He dumped her though. I went over to her house and she was crying. It hurt me to see her cry. I gave her a long hug and she ended up fallen asleep in my arms. It seemed like nothing could ruin that perfect moment. Later that night someone at our school was having a party. They played this song and all the happy couples got up to dance while her and I sat around feeling miserable because we didn't have anyone to dance with. Suddenly I got an idea. I stood up and asked her to dance. She said yes ad we went into the crowd where everyone was dancing, and time seemed to go on forever. It was almost as if it was just her and I dancing, and no one else was there. When the second chorus started I leaned down and kissed her...it was almost like a scene in a movie. She kissed me back, and it felt like there was nothing wrong in the world. Like all the darkness had faded to light. It was magical. When the song ended we sat back down, but this time sitting in one of two chairs. We cuddled for a while, and after a little bit, I asked her out. Now five months later we're a happy couple. She applied to a different college than I and got accepted. I got accepted to the other college...but I didn't want to leave her. So I applied to the college she applied to and got accepted. So now we'll be together in college as well. This is one of my favorite songs...it really expresses all the emotions you feel when you're in love.... Happiness. Fear. Strength. Weakness. All those emotions mixed together to create that special feeling. The feeling you never want to forget. |

I was thinking about the different theories mentioned earlier, and thought, "maybe it's a combination of all of these?" So this is what I think: A person is using drugs, realizes what he has done, and wants to kill himself so as to rid the world of his wrong doings. |
