Radiohead – Karma Police Lyrics 12 years ago
I interpret this song as the battle for conformity escalating to the point where it's no longer different views that are hot spots, any difference becomes unhuman.

"Karma Police,
Arrest this man"

If you take the words Karma Police, what do you get? 'Karma' (Do bad and bad will come) 'Police' (Implies there's a human group policing Karma onto people)

"He talks in Maths"

This man is using words they don't understand, implying the man is more educated, or of a different culture or religion, let's say he's of a different religion.

"He buzzes like a fridge"

The humming he makes after a prayer.

"He's like a detuned radio"

The narrator is dehumanizing him for being different from the rest of the people.

Her Hitler hairdo

"Hitler hairdo" is villanizing the woman for having different features.

"Is making me feel ill
And we have crashed her party"

The woman's difference is making everyone disgusted.
"Crashed her party" is a pun on Hitler, implying that her and her friends (If she has any) are Nazis, and it means someone has infiltrated her inner circle to make her conform, or something much more sinister.

"This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get
When you mess with us"

This very robotic mantra, is basically showing that it's no longer just trying to make people conform into being correct, but is also becoming hostile, stating they're going to get you if you cross them.

"Karma police
I've given all I can
It's not enough
I've given all I can
But we're still on the payroll"

This is the twist in the story,
The narrator begins fighting back at this system of living, angry that he's given up his individuality for the sake of not being discriminated, and the only reward he's getting is the conformity and isolation of a robotic society.

The repetition of the bridge is showing the "Karma Police" has turned on him, baring their fury at him.

For a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself
Phew, for a minute there
I lost myself, I lost myself

This is an ambiguous ending, and as I see it, there can be more than a few ways this can be interpreted.

Ending #1:
The narrator regains his individuality, this makes the most sense to me, because the vocals in this part are in a different key than the rest of the song, and they seem more human, paired with the fact that one of the words written in as opposed to an adlib is "phew".

Ending #2:
The narrator gives into the "Karma Police's" demand and rejoins conformity, this is evidenced by the robotic repetition of the the lines "For a minute there, I lost myself" and the narrator repeats all of it again, as if to reassure himself that it's all going to be okay, and he's doing the right thing, even though he doesn't know what to do anymore.

Ending #3:
The Karma Police collapses, and the conformed regain their individuality, the only evidence behind this are the repetitions of "For a minute there, I lost myself" and the nearly choir like vocals.

Ending #4:
The only way the narrator can escape the urge of conformity is to isolate himself, and although he's isolated when he's living in the robotic society, he's no longer speaking. Although his life is boring and comfortable, he stays by reminding himself what happened last time he lived among other people to convince himself to stay, this is evidenced by the airy, isolated feeling of the vocals in the song.

Basically:
First Verse = Everyone must have the same views and background
Second Verse = Everyone must look exactly the same.
Bridge = The ferocity of this outlook.
Third Verse = The system's only pay-off is contributing to the system (Think of communism when it's done wrong.)
Coda = Pick one. It depends on how your views are.

One of the albums themes follows a post-apocalyptic world where demons have plunged the world into eternal darkness.

This song lyrically sounds like a part where day comes back, like Demon Days.

A Perfect Circle – Lullaby Lyrics 13 years ago
I know this seems kind of random, but this album fits just as well backwards as a relapse instead of a drug addict gradually curing themselves.

Gravity finishes with "I choose to live" Then Lullaby fades in saying "Go back to sleep" Foreshadowing the Pet riff, Then the sober person hears Pet calling(Pet/Lullaby) After, they reminisce about all the good times they had with the drug, (The Nurse Who Loved Me) They start getting the craving of needing the drug again, and contemplate suicide (Crimes) They talk them self out with self loathing (The Outsider) The recovering addict's temptation becomes too strong and decides to move away from where he lives (A Stranger) But the damage is already done and the addict longs to {and eventually does} fall back into his addiction (Vanishing) The relapsed addict knows the drug is killing him, but he doesn't care anymore (Blue/The Noose) The addict completely relapses and gives up fighting and saying he's in control (Weak and Powerless) The addict is now back where he started at the beginning of the album, with no shame or conscience (The Package)

I think it's literally the sequel to South Side, it's the explorers experiencing death and moving into the afterlife, the protagonists perception of the afterlife is the door opening at the end and a sort of paradise can be heard (We Have Heaven)

The Mars Volta – Cassandra Gemini Lyrics 14 years ago
In My Opinion, this is the point in the album where you/Cygnus realize Cygnus never lived, he was in purgatory the whole time, his subconscious knowledge of his mother being sleazy made his spirit grow to be a promiscuous person.
The person who finally tells him is his spiritual guide: "Cassandra Gemini"
Frances was raped and abandoned by her sister, conceived from the rape were twins: Cygnus and Cassandra, when she aborted the children Cygnus survived, but was severely deformed, this deformed child was abandoned in a gutter, it died silently while the owls fed on it's corpse, they didn't care, it was food...
"I think I've become one of the others..."
Cygnus is starting to realize that he never lived, and just like his mother, his aunt, the widow, his grandmother and his grandmother before him, he was killed.
Cygnus and Cassandra come together and begin their journey to the afterlife, which is described in a very sexual manner.
Cassandra saying "No there's no time" makes me think there was a time limit to finish.
They hit the end of their journey which is symbolized in a climax and plays same thing heard at the beginning as a question as to what really happened at the end, was it him going back, or was it foreshadowing, or was he waking from a dream?
The 25 wives are L'via and her 'sisters' being killed to be silenced, the confessional was L'Via telling the other nuns what happened.

IMHO it's about acknowledging you're different from everyone else and at the beginning the singer's afraid of being accepted, but by the end they don't care what others think anymore.

Close, but no cigar,
The song is a metaphor about feeling Isolated, different, like you're an astronaut in another universe, everyone you ever find alien, and wondering if you'll ever make it back home, where you belong.

I love how they bitch slapped Edwin with this song

When Edwin wanted to contribute music, they kicked him out
When Brian Byrne wanted to contribute, They put "My Beautiful Deep End" on their first 'post-edwin' album

It's an amazing song.

This song is amazing!
It reminds me of The Quicksilver Meat Dream

It's about giving up on trying to find happiness.

'afraid of a sure thing, of a change in the here and now,'
The storyteller doesn't want to be completely happy or sad, he doesn't want anything to change.

'And the force when it hits me, the full weight of it when I'm down'
The force of realizing that he can't do anything to help himself. Feels even worse once he's given up.

'THE FUCKING AIR IN THE CITY,WHEN THE PHASE SHIFTING SIGN IS OFF!'
I think this is a metaphor for his state of mind, how he hates when he isn't being neurotic.

'IF THE SHIP IS UNSTEADY, HOW WILL THE LIFE BOAT HOLD US ALL?'
This one's kind of obvious, he's saying "if this state of mind is so bad how will I get better?"

'I ain't gonna crawl'
I'm done struggling,
'I'll lie on the road'
I'll stay in this bad state.

'tell them all to forget it,
tell them that's it,
then call it off,
cause I'm worried about money,
and paradigm stores running low'
Tell them I'm done trying to get better,
Because I'm almost out of money,
And low on my shortcut to happiness(drugs?)

'so how can I laugh?'
How can I feel good?

'how can I take it without some doubt'
How can I do it without thinking of sadness ahead?

'how can I laugh?'
How do I feel good?

'how can I face it right away'
How can I be better immediately?

'with everything gone wrong with everything all over anyway'
Everything's messed up, I'm done with dealing with everything.

'I need some grace'
I need some excess(sex,drugs,partying)

'Say goodbye to aesthetic,'
The excess stopped it's thing

'better taste and essential self'
I have no more self worth

'cause I'm just tired of running'
I'm done trying to be happy

'and there's a time bomb in this head'
My mental state is deteriorating.

'So just who's the real killer?'
Anti-hero suggests that even if he killed himself, it would be the rest of society's fault.

'And what made his paint dry'
What part made me so certain about this?

'It's kind of hard to imagine holidays in neurotica'
It's hard to be happy when everything's always changing

'A slap in the faith, hard, opened hand is the one reality I can never protect myself from,'
The hero knows people will always insult him, and there's no way he can stop it.

'Even in the sparkle yard at end of day warm summer madness in the bouquet of a dream son,
The hero is aware people will always dislike him, even when he's in a better place, and the future

'astral projecting, failing to right wrongs when the whole thing starts to open up'
Whenever the hero, is at piece mentally, he fails to make amends to things he did when he was in the wrong state of mind

'I ain't gonna crawl, without falling hard, without some pain,'
I'm not gonna get better without hardship, and sadness...

*this part suggests drug abuse*
'Whenever the fog breaks, and a day takes hold'
Whenever I'm actually happy,

'I just can't think straight right away,'
I get too euphoric

'Maybe I'll come around...'
Maybe I'll still be happy when I come down,

'or not, I'm swinging again and all my ex-friends say it's psycho pathetic'
not happy when I come down, and doing the same swing-set routine between happy and sad and my friends hide their true opinion(pathetic) with other comments.

'And way too gone'
Saying I've gone to far...

'Almost painless even though, I wondered if something was wrong all along.'
(obvious)

I love this song and am listening to it right now.

I agree with most of your interpretation, except, it seems more like contemplating suicide,
and the sun seeing through the day is the hope of having happiness.
And when he tells his friend about his suicidal tendencies, his friend says, Who'll really care?

With these lyrics I can see two things,
1:What you guys are saying, preacher converts person, person becomes preacher, preacher converts...

2:(my original interpretation) Preacher rapes someone, the god he worships says: "BITCH YOU'RE GOING TO HELL!" He begs for forgiveness"Jesus Christ why don't you come save my life now/Open my eye and blind me with your light now" God says:"BITCH YOU BEEN FORGIVEN, DON'T DO IT AGAIN!" Preacher continues to rape another person. This shows how people in power let off the hook easier than normal people.

I like what TremorGabe is saying.(Essay Time:D)
I think it's about a guy who doesn't wanna be homosexual, he just is. He asks himself why this would happen to him while shooting up needle-drugs(there's more than one you know!), he then envies others for their heterosexuality to the point of killing them. The man then goes into denial, saying "I'm still straight!" and attempts to prove it to himself by raping a woman, his mental pain from not being heterosexual has "SENT HIM OFF THE DEEP END"
The second verse is just about his envy, and thinking the people deserve to die(not literally narcissism, he just thinks the people have zero worth)and taking the job into his own hands.
The third verse is a virgin hooker, she get's her services bought by the homosexual man. The man doesn't truely believe she means anything, he just want's to prove himself that he's straight. The woman "doesn't like the view" because SHE'S A HOOKER, it's her job, nothing more, nothing less.
There is no fourth verse.
The "they just ain't nothin'" part is Vedder saying the people around them couldn't care less about them.
"But he's got a great view" Implies that this person likes what they are seeing/are enjoying themselves.
Vedder says "can't touch the bottom" because there's no possible way to hit the bottom, emotionally, physically or mentally because there's only going deeper.

I think I summed everything up.
hope I didn't put you to sleep.
