Sneaker Pimps – 6 Underground Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about depression and thanatopsis. The individual also seems to have some spiritual dilemma as well as social tribulations, since the individual mentions about the consequence of suicide and the fact of not living according to the individual's true self. The contemplation shows that the individual doesn't completely devalue life, it's just about the misery that's too much to bear.

Ladytron – Moon Palace Lyrics 12 years ago
What is this about?

I was just learning about David Icke and his theories about the moon, and this kinda made me look at these lyrics in a different light.

The Serpent sea is a geographic region in on the moon.
Moon Palace is a novel's about a protagonist who is doing self discovery, and that he feels like "his life begins" in the ending (of the novel)--more like to do with self-awareness.
There is a theory that implies that the moon is an artificial satellite "disguised" as an organic rock. This theory claims that the moon is a tool of "control" (mental and/or surveillance) built by sentient beings, known or identified in various esoteric accounts.

Wu-Tang Clan – Bells Of War Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about the psychological warfare. More like, psychological enslavement. These are some of the deepest lyrics I've ever read. I've listening to it for ten years, and it's still hard to paraphrase them.

All of the verse are crazy, especially U-God's.

Death Cab for Cutie – St. Peter's Cathedral Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song, even though I am Christian.
The lyricism is clearly atheist or agnostic. I am not saying that the building itself is the true essence of the symbolism, I'm just saying that if you are religious, or spiritual person, you will eventually realize that supernatural forces exist, and that intelligence requires codes and keys [pun intended]. Intelligent design or God is within us. It's no use to look for it with physical eyes, it's spiritual, it requires faith. How many people come into the realization of God in their death bed...

Anyway, beautiful lyrics, and even better instrumentals, and probably my favorite song of the album as well, but I take it, entertainment for the uplifting vibe it provides. "Imagine" by John Lennon is very uplifting, but it's an atheist and/or agnostic song as well.

The reason why I believe so are the lines I find the most powerful of the song:

"Ever fearful of the answer" (what is the answer? So the artist claims to have it on the song? Although there's no credible authority)

"Or if these FICTIONS only prove
How much you've really got to lose" (The candle can also be a metaphor for the sparkle of life, as it fades, you're dying, only then you truly contemplate or not above your life on earth, and the "afterlife." But this is biased because saying that rather you realize if there is heaven or hell, or if it's just a product of our imagination should be mentioned in a way that is impartial. The message dismisses heaven or hell by calling it "fictions." And saying "how much you really got to lose" infers that physical life on earth as we know it is all there is.

"Such ambition never failing to amaze me" (here the message is making a mockery out of religion, because it sounds sarcastic.)

"Or just chemicals that help us understand
That when our hearts stop ticking
This is the end
And there's nothing past this" (Is this the answer? The idea and concept that the message wants to leave in the listeners mind is that after life there is nothing. So live your life for life itself. Whatever aspirations, remorse, and consequence you may ponder about start and end in this life. Thus implying that there is no God.)

This is why I think this song is atheist, and its lyrics should be taking with a grain of salt for they are infused with biased suggestion.

Who is Dhammapada? I know who Dharma was... Some kind of Hindu sage. It also means, the basic principles of the cosmo. One of my favorite songs in the album, if not the one. And it was an early favorite too.

"strange how certain details subvert everything"

IMO, means that when you have a terrible fixation, in love, or ardent lust, nothing else matters unless what you like and makes you feel good.

Kanye West – All of the Lights Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is genius because the beat or instrumental is uplifting--feel good vibe, but th song is really about our daily struggles.
His it's about domestic violent, which led him to jail. After getting out, he released that he had to be a better man.

This is about the big picture. Better yourself, better you life, and you close ones grow with you, if they are willing to get it.

Do you.
"Can't let her grow in a that Ghetto University." He wants to provide the best possible education for his child, and not let her a reflection of negative associations with ghetto residents.

Christina Aguilera – Birds Of Prey Lyrics 13 years ago
This song has several meanings for me, I do agree with the take that it's about peer pressure.

More in depth, it's about experiencing something that we perceive as immoral, while the song tells that it only depends on your perspective, because in essence ={Slipping and falling through the looking glass--living it instead of observing--
Catching a glimpse at all that lies behind the masks--seeing the realness behind appearances--} the experience is amoral, just like instincts.
This song gives me a feel of sin, and also animal tendencies (not related to spirit), thus carnal impulses.

It makes me think of vultures. (This actually happened.) A vulture will sense a dying creature and it will shadow it, and jump at it at its weakest or mortal phase. Even if it is a child. (search: African+child+vulture+photo) {They watch, feed, take what they need, bite as you bleed}

I also see it as a metaphor for real people such as people among the peer pressure, and even inner demons such as tendencies that drive us to indulge uncontrollably but I don't want too go spiritual, because it's a bit more far fetched. There are people who can cause us to self destruct, and these can also be our birds of prey.

The blue pill allows us to remain in our default stage--being of innocence, discontent, or whatever.
The red pill is the pill of "hyper" consciousness. It frees you from remorse or morality, you're disconnected to your solid lines between right and wrong, just like the drunker some people get, the blurrier their reasoning becomes. So you start acting more by impulses {you only see what you want}.

In conclusion, the abstract lyrics make me think of the birds of prey as vultures, peer pressure, narcotics (being under the influence--alcohol included), and simply doing something that is extremely out of your element be it excessive laziness, pleasuring activities, or means to an end (fame, fortune, etc...).

Zero 7 – Today Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is about, well the way I took it, reminiscing and sharing our experiences. It can be about romance, platonic, or personal.
Abstract lyrics often allow me make it about what feels better depending on my disposition. If I'm thinking about my life ambitions that aren't going according to plan, it fits well too.

As people come into fruition, they often compete more than they share. So history repeats itself with constant "war". Let's talk about it and understand each other, we disagree, and we can as well learn from each other.

Today, can only be sunk as in becoming felt and understood through meditation, each one knows in their own mind how they feel about the present depending on their reflections (of the past and their personal actions). So sometimes, Today can't be completely described, because the "yesterdays" describe today. It's like trying to explain a minute in one second.

We can either feel remorse about some past deeds or enjoy the present and strive for a prosperous future. If we ponder on lost opportunities we should focus on grasping the Today--cause it is the only to achieve new ones or get another chance.

"The light that goes into space," it's like what we do will ultimately have some reflection when we are gone. For the light keeps traveling until it eventually connects to something. It's up to you to propagate something positive or negative.
I also look at it, as the present matters most, because we will eventually fade away, such as the light that goes into space.

Now, I get that Sir Greendown is about an actual character.
Although some lines in that song are beyond me:
- "...The dragon wants a bite
Of our love"

- "The flower and the golden hand
Wooden wings and clouds of sand"

- "Here the dolphins walk like men"
