Parkway Drive – Blue and the Grey Lyrics 11 years ago
This is probably my favorite song by PWD...ever. Period. This song has everything. The ONLY song that MIGHT top it is Horizons, for me personally anyway. I identify with this song pretty heavily.

I take it to have a bit of a double meaning, and those two meanings work together. The first is obvious, he's lonely. He feels isolated and like he has a huge void (like the sea and the sky, just seemingly endless voids). This one is pretty deep and heavy, and I feel like all humans have at least one moment in life where this describes their feelings about life in general.

The second of the two meanings that I take is that it is metaphorical for he and a past lover. The sea is him looking into himself. Speaking to himself. He identifies with the sea. Also, the sea could mean his close friends and family. That is possibly important as I continue this.

The sky is his past love, or perhaps just love in general. That feeling. Just by looking at the first half of the song, this can be seen.

The line "distance was born when the sea and the sky grew apart. loneliness was born the day i let you go" seems to go along with this metaphorical interpretation. The two things (sea and sky) are both deep, empty, and dark, yet they are distant, even though they are mirror images of each other.

He accepts that he can't have his love (whether he means a specific person or just the abstract idea of love) and lets it go. He begs to not have pity (as he does in every chorus, "dear sky, don't cry for me. be the hope i could never reach"). He wants the "sky" to go on and find love and be happy. The sea, which again, can mean himself or his friends/family, is all he has. The second half of the choruses is either him telling him not to let himself drown in his sadness or he's reaching out to those friends/family members for their support. Either way, it works.

Regardless of the interpretations, on a purely musical and poetic level, this song is nothing short of beautiful.

Hurt – Adonai Lyrics 11 years ago
Basically, a shot at religion. Pretty straight forward. He's saying, "if there is a god, what the hell are you doing? What did we do to you to deserve this? Why are you doing this to us? Would you want us to do this to you?". The second verse ends in a different way though. He is obviously accepting that religion/god is made up, and so it seems he's addressing the person who made it up and is questioning why somebody would put into people's heads the idea that this "god" is justified in bringing these terrible things (hurricanes, rape, etc) into the world.

If there was ever a wonder if J. Loren is an atheist, this about clears it up (though, it has been clear since Vol. I....). Heard this song for the first time and absolutely loved it.

Hurt – So When Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is fairly straight forward. A women left the speaker here, and he's angry. She promised him that she could never leave. She'd "die" if she did.

The first verse is the arguments that lead to the breakup. He tried to let things go and move on, but she left anyway. He "should've known what" she'd do, and that is leave. "The place is vacant when you're gone" is applicable to two things, and both work. It could mean the house they shared, or any place where they would normally be. Another interpretation is his heart. His heart is vacant when she's gone. He's empty inside without her.

The lines before the chorus are him entertaining her frustration with him. He knows something is wrong, and he goes with what she is giving him, which is anger and frustration, but he still knows how they used to be ("I still taste the way...).

The chorus is obvious. If he really meant so much to her that she'd swear she'd die if she left, why is she still alive? Why is she fine when the relationship is over? Why is he the only one upset?

"Well if apathy could be a friend of mine, The matches made could burn the sands of time".
--This line is tough to break down, but the overall meaning seems to be if he were apathetic to this like she is, he'd get through it quicker. This is supported by the muffled pleads during the solo. He is so pissed at her and at himself because he should've known that she'd leave. He should've known this was coming. And he's pissed that she should've known what this would do to him. He's confused as to why she left, hence the "why" being repeated (obvious, I know).

Chorus is the same here, but the changes are necessary at the end.

The "so what, so what, so did I" line is beautifully placed. It's not sang as aggressively. He's finally letting it go. So what if you're gone, so am I. You left me, but so did I. I'm leaving you now too.

"So what, so when, so what, so when, so die" is a play with the above. So what, you left. So when can be taken like this So when are you going to die? When are you going to follow through with that promise? And then, after being so laid back with the repetition there with the "so what, so when", he just wants her to die. Maybe not a literal, physical death, but certainly a mental/emotional death.

This is just my take on it.

I retract my previous idea in favor of this one. Didn't know about that story. The song makes more sense when that is taken into account.

Parkway Drive – The River Lyrics 11 years ago
The river is a metaphor for life. "Follow your heart to the water", or, do what you think is right for your life. Follow your heart through life. But then he stipulates this by saying, "Fill your pockets with stone" so as to say, sink to the bottom of the river, or in other words, stay where you are in life. Don't move along down the river/through life and leave me. "Throw your arms around me, never let me go".

In short, it's just about being left by someone you love.

Parkway Drive – Sleight of Hand Lyrics 11 years ago
Pretty straightforward song. He doesn't believe in god and it's a criticism of religion in general. Killing and hating in the name of their gods, living a life in submission to an imaginary deity. Awesome song, between the lyrics and the instrumental behind it. Great delivery.

Hurt – The Seer Lyrics 12 years ago
You're close. It alternates. The first chorus says "Enter Venus", the goddess of love and beauty. The second chorus says, "as you intervene us", since the best friend of the speaker AND boyfriend of the woman mentioned in the song walks in on the speaker and woman. The last one says "as you intravenous", since it follows from the line "he cleaned up a needle to fly and told me goodbye". The betrayed boyfriend/best friend does drugs to "cure heartache" and ends up overdosing.

The song itself is a story. It starts with the speaker and his best friend out together. The best friend's girlfriend comes in, and the speaker falls in love/lust with her. The woman and the speaker have an affair and they get caught. A "seer" is someone who can see things before they happen. The speaker knew that they would be caught by the boyfriend/best friend and that he would take it extremely hard, leading to his heartbreak and/or eventual suicide.

This song is insanely amazing.

Christina Perri – A Thousand Years Lyrics 12 years ago
To me this song is about finally being with someone you've loved for so long. You had to love them from afar, whether do to circumstances or because you were just afraid of letting your guard down to fall in love with them and actually be with them. I mean...it's fairly obvious.

Hurt – Forever Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, this is absolutely a relationship song. The song title and chorus just make it obvious to me. Here is my breakdown of the song:

There is no safe place for me to hide
Theres no safe place for me, too tired
There is no safe place for me to hide
Theres no safe place for me

It always hurts when its someone you love
Wont you rise above
Theres a price in blood

It always hurts when its someone you love
Wont you rise above
Theres a price in love

--He's trying to hide from the pain. He's trying to escape the disappointment and heartbreak of the relationship. There's a price in blood means that living life has it's price, and that price is pain. When you love somebody, it hurts more when they abandon you or mistreat you. Wont you rise above is saying, basically, get over it. Rise above it all. There's a price in love saying that love, like life, has a cost. You open yourself up to somebody and are left vulnerable.

There is no safe place for me to hide
Theres no safe place for me, i'm so tired
There is no safe place for me to hide
Theres no safe place for me
I'm tired

--This is his mind growing tired of thinking about the relationship. He's depressed, and he's tired of the depression. There's no way to hide from the reality of it all and no way to hide from the pain he still feels.

So tell me a story about your life
I dont mind, I dont mind
Wont you tell me?- that will be just fine.
I dont mind, idle mind.
Singin songs about the Auld Lang Syne
I dont mind, I dont mind

--This is him talking to his girlfriend (perhaps even only in his own head). He wants her to console him and tell him it'll all be OK. Idle mind is just him confessing that he's not thinking or worrying in this moment. He's sitting by her (again, perhaps even in his own head) and soaking it in. Singin songs about the Auld Lang Syne is obvious. He's recalling his memories with her.

(Forever)
Wont you lend me your sins against you
For every thing I understand
One thousand more wont comprehend (Forever)
It always hurts when its someone you love
Wont you rise, rise above
(Forever)
It always hurts when its someone you love
Wont you rise above
Theres a price in blood

--Forever is, to me, him saying he'll love her forever. That's why it is said so softly. He wants to take all of her "sins", or her baggage. He goes on to tell her that nobody will understand or know her like he does. Now, instead of telling the listener that it hurts when it's someone you love, he's telling her (once more, COULD be him saying this to her in his own mind). He wants her to rise above all of their failure and hurt and whatnot and come back (to me, this is reinforced by the last "forever" after it).

I see the car that your mom keeps sending, when I breathe it feels just like my life is ending. I think of the one that I most respected and all the words that Im now regretting.
Id hold them now, but i'm bruised and beaten and Im alone and Ive barely eaten.
And it seems just like the way it goes that down the road we may have known about the love in both of us we push and shove, betray the trust, dont let this make a fool of us i'm tired hungry broke and just wish I could come back home

--This proves, for my theory anyway, that he is depressed. Maybe he's talking to her still in his head, perhaps on the phone. Her and her family are worried, so they send people to check on him. He is still in a lot of pain. He thinks of her, and he regrets saying certain things to her (could be bad things, or it could be telling her he loves her, as that is hard to cope with when you get broken up with). He'd hold those words, thoughts, and feelings in, but he's so beat up about the breakup. He's alone and malnourished (duh). The little run at the end is him making a last ditch effort at begging. He knows that they both know that they love each other. They fight and betray the trust in the relationship, but he doesn't want that to be the cause of the end (don't let this make a fool of us). He's completely miserable and he just wants to go back "home," which is with her.

Forever, forever
Calling you out I called your bluff
But that just wasnt good enough
You split my face and spilled my blood
Then tears ran down the face I loved

To me, this proves that this is a relationship song. In a fight, he called her bluff that she wouldn't leave. And instead of just leaving (but that just wasn't good enough), she ruined him emotionally, and it hurt her to do so (tears ran down the face I loved).

So, with all of that, I think you can see it is obviously a relationship song. At least, by the interpretation itself. I'm sure there are a couple ways one could look at the song.

Parkway Drive – Dead Dreams Lyrics 12 years ago
To me, it's a song about a failed relationship and Winston's reaction after the fact.

Kill the lights
Im so sick of your face
Another nigth wasted wishing you away
Now im cut, im cut at the wrists
but i still cant kill the pain

- To me, this is him being tormented by her. He sees her (perhaps in a room, which is where the "kill the lights" line came from) and he's tired of running into her. Another night now will be spent trying to stop thinking of her. So, he cuts his wrists, but the emotional pain blocks out the physical pain.

Id give anything to rip you from my head
From my head
The return of your voice marks another failure
And i can feel your blades closing on my back
Ill savour this one last taste, this taste of sanity
As it clutches, tearing at my heart
This is my final act of desperation

- He's desperate to get her out of his head. When he hears her voice, it only deepens his thoughts of her, causing his attempts at forgetting her to fail. He can still feel the betrayal that she put on him. Then, perhaps thoughts of suicide in the last couple lines?

One lost second gives way to disease
Id give anything to rip you fro my head
Cause i can feel you
Creeping through me
Like a sickness
Your weakness
Scars your ****ing face
Scares your name

- One lost second, to me, is him remembering the initial break up. Perhaps an argument where he didn't say the right thing or didn't say anything at all, and that is what caused it. Thoughts of her still creep through his entire being, like a sickness. Her weakness in how easy she gave up destroys her beauty (scars your fucking face) and her reputation (scares your name) with her.

As light fades to past
Darkness wells against me
But my shattered eyelids
Refuse to close
Your breathe is death to me

- As the memories of her fade to the past once again, he's left in darkness. Although he has forgotten her, he doesn't know where to go. Her life itself, though, is dead to him. He doesn't care for her anymore.

That's just my take anyway.

Hurt – How We End Up Alone Lyrics 12 years ago
First, I want to say, I cannot WAIT for The Crux to come out! If this song (along with Adonai) are indications of the quality, it will be another amazing album.

Now, this song is the ULTIMATE break up song. A lot of Hurt's relationship songs seem to be written from the perspective of a failing relationship rather than a failed one (the lone exception being Ten Ton Brick and possibly Overdose, if you interpret it that way), so this is a good change up.

On to the song.

There's no more use in lying
Yeah, there's no more use in lying
To tell the truth I don't care what you'll do
There's no more use in lying

-This to me says that there is no more use in lying about how she feels about him or the relationship. This could also be from his perspective, about how he feels about her or the relationship. He tells her he doesn't care what she does or says, so quit trying to lie about it and make it sound better than it is.

There's no more use in trying
When there's no more use denying
I gave you the proof
I don't care what you'll do

-He's given up. He doesn't want to try to make it work anymore. He's done denying it. He gave her all the proof that he's good for her and they CAN make it work, but she doesn't buy into it, so he stops caring.

We act in bitterness
and then we scream our very souls free
I would react but then my mask would slip and you'd see me
I hate him, you love me
Together we are nothing
I'm fucking scared to be alone

-The frustration of the relationship has them both bitter, so they argue more. He would react to her, and give her what's she wants (a reaction) but she would see how hurt he is. He's putting up the facade that he doesn't give a shit, when he still does. The "I hate him, you love me" line is tough. It could be that he's saying what she's thinking. It could be that she has another man, he hates him, and he's saying that she loves him (meaning the speaker). I go with the latter, but the aforementioned works too. Together, they're nothing. There is no relationship left. However, he's "fucking scared to be alone." She's all he's got.

Then you'll see from my way
Because you will see from my way
That's how we end up alone

-Pretty obvious. He is telling her she will see this from his perspective. The "that's how we end up alone" line is indicative that, once she does, she will see how they ended up apart and alone.

There's no more use in trying
There was no more use denying
If you paid your dues
I don't care it just proves
That's how we end up alone

-Repetitive first half here. Already explained, he's given up. He goes on to say that if she makes it up to him, he doesn't care, it just proves that she only did it once she saw what he saw and looked at it all from his perspective.

There was no more use in crying
If there's no more use in hiding
You do what you do
I don't care it just proves.

-Here he tells her that crying over it is pointless if they're no longer hiding their true feelings. He tells her to do whatever it is she wants, and no matter what that is, it just proves how things came to be. Either she didn't care and doesn't want to be with him, or she, again, saw it all from his perspective.

Nobody seems to care
Cause nobody's ever here
Nobody wants to listen
Cause nobody's even there
So we end up alone

-Pretty obvious that he is saying he has nobody to talk to about this. Nobody is there in his life to listen. So, he's alone.

If you fear for my way,
Well then, you'd see it from my way
Cause when you see it from my way
Well then, you see it from my way

-The first line goes back to that first breakdown where he says "I'm fucking scared to be alone." If she fears being alone like he does, well then, she'd see how he feels.

You will see it from my way
Because you will see things my way
I gave her my youth just to make me the proof
That's how we end up alone
That's how we end up alone

-He gave her a large chunk of his young life. He did this devotedly as proof of how much he cares for her, to make himself the proof that the relationship can work. In doing that, he met nobody along the way to get close to. So, that's how he ended up alone.

Because no one seems to care
Because no one is ever there.

-Again, he has nobody else. Nobody cares because nobody is there. I tend to tie this to Ten Ton Brick and the reference there to the poem Twa Corbies "nobody feels what nobody knows."

This song means a lot to me right now, as do most of Hurt's songs. My girlfriend of 5 years just left me, so there could be some bias in the way I interpret it. However, I think I pretty much nailed it. I mean...it is a pretty obvious song.

Hurt – On The Radio Lyrics 12 years ago
Yep. It's sort of his way of saying he's over her, and he hopes that the songs torment her. At the same time though, as much as he is over it, he is still hopeful that she comes back to him after hearing his pain "on the radio" and "heal" him.

Hurt – Falls Apart Lyrics 12 years ago
Bingo! That is my thought as well. The first verse is a giveaway.

"And oh! By the way, with all you did nothing has changed, so lie like a waste by the side"

Now, this doesn't mean that it is DEFINITELY tied to Shallow, but it is possible.

The song in whole says that he tried to fix the problems in his relationship. The "spend all your money then died" line is where the girl starts speaking (which makes sense, given the next couple lines after it and the explanation I gave earlier in this post). He is broke, and because of that, dead to her (which, again, is where the Shallow connection is for me).

He cracked his head by thinking he could fix it. He beat his head against the proverbial wall trying to make this relationship work. Because of that, and the hope he had, and for the fact that he feels like he could have done something different somewhere to keep her, he feels like he broke his own heart. Could also be as simple as saying "I made myself vulnerable, she doesn't care about me, and due to this, I am heartbroken."

"And the hell of it is what we are
We finish and wish we could start again
Our skin tears away as our memories fade with age
And we don't even know 'til its gone...
But everything just fell apart
'Cause everything just falls apart for me"

He's reminiscing. He knows who they both are, as individuals, and knowing how they went from being happy to being miserable. They "finish" by breaking up, and wish they could start over again and do some things different. The skin tearing away is metaphorical for aging, as old skin cells die, and that ties to the memories also dying with age (memories fade with age...). The rest of the verse is self-explanatory.

Awesome song. Honestly, and I saw a comment on another song by Hurt, but I feel like some of the songs are coming true in my own life...it's a bit creepy. Shallow and this one both. I guess knowing J. went through it is helping me some.

Hurt – Summers Lost Lyrics 12 years ago
OK, this song absolutely ties into Ten Ton Brick musically. I don't think J. would have done that if the lyrics didn't tie in either. Here is my take:

The song is about a relationship.

Lie to me,
Say you were wrong,
Like you have, too many times
And I'll believe its not my fault
like I have too much time

There was an argument and she constantly just folds and concedes that she is in the wrong. Then, in turn, he believes he was free from any fault of his own.

So, hear me now boy, stay alive
Cuz thats the way it should go
Would your maker have opened your eyes? If he preferred them closed.

This is his mentor of sorts (or perhaps him talking to himself) telling him to quit blinding himself from the reality that he's also at fault and that his relationship is failing. "Stay alive" is saying "be emotional" or "care enough to fix the problem" because if you're emotionally dead, nothing ever improves in relationships. The eyes being open and closed is another metaphor, saying "realize what is going on."

Too feel the weight of summers lost.
I'd love to have you near,
and all the times we've ever crossed
It was just to keep you here.

Summer is a metaphor for bright, sunny times in their relationship. He'd love to be close to her again. Whether this is physically or emotionally, it is irrelevant. "All the times we've ever crossed" means "all the times we've argued", it was just to keep her.

To try to be something you are not, like I have for you and promised too.
I know well get through this and wont let you do it.
So Stop, and make believe that i'm not wrong
Cuz if I was we'd all be gone.

She is faking who she is by taking all the blame and trying to change herself for him, just as he does for her. This causes tension. He reassures her that they'll get through it and he is not willing to let her leave. He wants her to make believe he's not wrong so she will stay. They both realize this relationship is failing.

Nights without end seem to bleed into days. Try to forget that it turned out this way. I wear the mark of the permanent stain. Not accidentally, I cursed gods good name I am, still mortified yet relieved in a way
That when my days are done
well be in the same plane.

Long, sleepless nights due to their arguing. At this point, based on the intensity of the music, I think they have broken up. He wants to forget that it ended. He wears the "permanent stain" of her effect on him as a person. Him cursing god is just indicative of his frustration. He's mortified at losing her, but he is relieved in knowing that when he dies, they'll be together again, since they can't be in this world.

With winters mean brimstone I set sail for Euphrates, All i can say is its a god
DAMN SHAME!

Winters, mean, and brimstone are all metaphors for tough times. He "set sail for Euphrates", a river in the Mesopotamia. This river has a lot of historical and religion context, which is why it fits nicely with J's lyrics. Goddamn shame is just referencing to seconds before where he "cursed god's good name."

Basically, this is him feeling sadness/regret at losing her. Ten Ton Brick is where it turns into resentment.

Hurt – Just A Thought Lyrics 12 years ago
This (like every song written by J. Loren about failed/failing relationships) is speaking to me these days. My girlfriend of 5 years has just become completely emotionally detached from me, and I feel like it is my fault entirely. God, between this, Omission, and The Consumation, I may well be a long lost blood relative to J. Loren. lol

Great fucking song. The emotion in Hurt's music is unmatched in this day and age. This type of music would make guys like John Lennon step back and go "wow."

Hurt – The Consumation Lyrics 12 years ago
Holy shit! No comments? This is one of their most powerful songs. Just the pure frustration of the song. It is always building, even in the "you hate/I hate" lines. It never really releases (and this is most certainly a planned occurrence).

The song is simple. At first, to me, they've having sex. It is all they have (bend over, I seem to love you now...). Then he mentions the "little things I've done" and tells her to "get over it" because he's done arguing about his past mistakes and small transgressions which she holds against him. Her incessant bitching is dragging down the relationship.

He then gives her the cold shoulder to get back at her for bringing up his mistakes. When he says "when I've won" he is talking about the arguments. This is the sign of a failing relationship, when you just want to win the arguments instead of fix the problems or, in this event, ignore the "little things."

Then the "hate" lines. He loves her. She hates him. He wants to make her happy, so he hates himself. This is probably due to her bringing up the "little things." It is a lingering issue, so he hates himself for that. There is definitely a conflict of interest within himself though. Literally, seconds before this part of the song, he was talking about giving her the cold shoulder. His pride is telling him to get back at her and win the arguments, his heart is telling him to appease her.

Come on and let me plea
I can not want to be a bother
but you will not tell me please
I can not bear this any longer
when you want me I have needs
and I don't want to be a bother
but I wear them on my sleeve
and I don't want them any longer

^^ This part is tricky. It seems he is trying to end the relationship. He doesn't want to be a bother to her, but she won't say how she feels about him. He needs this so he feels validation for either leaving or staying. He cannot bear this any longer. When she wants him, he has things he needs (whether it be sexual or something else, not sure) and he doesn't want to bring her down by making her feel like all she is is something to be used for his personal gain (hence the "i don't want to be a bother" line again). But, he says he wears these needs (or feelings) on his sleeve, so he is exposed. When his needs are not met, you can tell it upsets him. The last line here, to me, has double meaning. I don't want them any longer means both his needs, as they are ruining his relationship, and the responsibility of the relationship itself. I think this is validated by the repetition of the self-loathing lines to follow.

This is my best shot. I'm probably off a bit, but I think it is a decent look at the song.

Suicide Silence – Girl of Glass Lyrics 12 years ago
Song is obviously about a girl who is a drug addict (the "element" in the first line). She has a tough life, drugs are her release. She's "reaching higher" by getting higher on drugs, but as she's doing this in an attempt to make her life better, it only makes her "sink further" into depression. She "wants to tip the glass" and "watch it fall", which obviously means kill herself, probably by overdosing on her drug. Powerful song. Who says metal can't be deep?

Suicide Silence – The Fallen Lyrics 12 years ago
I can relate to this song so well. Song is self-explanatory. It is a realization that there is no god for Mitch. He is one of "the fallen" that people speak of and how no prayers that REQUIRE a higher power (solely, no support in this world that could change the event that is being prayed for) ever come true. And, if there is a god, Mitch is saying "you let them fall" to him because, well, god did.

Suicide Silence – You Only Live Once Lyrics 12 years ago
Lyrics are a bit off at times. Here are the lyrics from the book:

Push your care, push your burdens aside
Erase everything inside and leave
just one thing on your mind
You only live once so just go fucking nuts!
Muah...go!

Live life hard (2x)

You only get one shot so shoot!

With every breathe you take you're dying
with every step we take we're falling apart
If we only had one chance we'd breathe,
so let's take the chance right now and scream

You only live one life, for a very short time,
so make every second divine

GO! Live life hard (2x)

Are you still breathing? It's your heart that's
beating inside, that keeps us alive
And for the very first time we're pushing aside
To surrender everything that I see in my eyes
Except for the one thing on my mind,
that I am alive! For the very first time!

For the very first time pushing worry aside (2x)
Erase everything inside (3x)
and leave just one thing!

You only get one shot!
You only live once so just go fucking nuts (4x)
Live life hard (4x)

Great song. The obvious meaning is to live life to it's fullest and don't waste time worrying about bullshit or what comes after life. Enjoy the one life you know you have for sure. The video also gives another interesting spin. The band is being shot by all the people that generally tell kids to "stay away" from heavy metal music (teachers, parents, priests, police officers, etc). Them being shot is symbolic of "you can try to tear us down and kill us, but we're here to stay as long as kids are digging our music." Great fucking song.

Suicide Silence – Witness the Addiction (feat. Jonathan Davis) Lyrics 12 years ago
Pretty obvious shot at religion again. Love it. The song, specifically, I think speaks about his mother or a close relative/friend that exposed him to the lie of religion. He was tormented by the concept of faith, and he feels betrayed and lied to. He's "witnessing your (the "her" in the first part of the song) addiction" and her "demons dancing right in front of my eyes." He prays but nothing ever changes. He is frustrated with his life and he just wants it to get better.

At least, that is my take. Great fucking album!

Parkway Drive – Moments of Oblivion Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is an obvious lead-in to Breaking Point. Allow me to be a little more detailed.

"There is nothing I would not give."
--To me, he is talking about material possessions. He would give away everything he owns to have the world be better (I know, it doesn't make sense. Read on. Trust me, it will make sense).

"These are the days of calm."
--The "calm before the storm" scenario. Again, this whole song is a lead-in to Breaking Point. Following the lyrics from Breaking Point, this interpretation of at least this line is obvious.

"Please understand these are the days of calm."
--Begging humanity to realize that the world isn't better; in fact, it is about to completely go to shit. Again, the "calm before the storm."

"We don't forget. We don't Forgive."
--Talking about humanity. We (humans) do not forget or forgive anyone or anything. This is why wars happen. This is why violence happens. This is why the world is starting to crumble.

Breaking Point goes on to kick ass and further the points I made above. Just my 2 cents though.

Asking Alexandria – I Was Once, Possibly, Maybe, Perhaps a Cowboy King Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is pretty obvious. It is a failed relationship. The beginning is how he ends up (hence the target on my temple and a hole in my head line). The shell of a boy lines is, again, how he is left after the relationship ends.

The rest of the song is his bitch of a girlfriend (well, ex) just breaking him down and making him feel like shit. He feels worthless. The gun to the head is symbolic of her verbal abuse and how it is figuratively killing him. The "blank I figured" part in the breakdown is saying "you're trying to kill me with the things you're saying, but it isn't lethal."

The lay your guns down, why wont you just let me die lines go towards her again. He's saying "stop, let me just fade out of this relationship." Instead, she continues to insult him and belittle him. Scars dont heal when you keep cutting supports this as well.

I could be totally wrong, but this is the way I take it.

More than just the title, the whole song. Every word is either straight from the movie or a reference to it ("beauty in destruction" "everything in this world dies alone" etc). Great movie, great song.

Hurt – Numbers Lyrics 13 years ago
The song is about the record label. They were dropped from Capitol Records, and this song is just about the band, the fans, etc. They're "just another number, dropped for better value". The chorus "listen to the end" line is pretty self explanatory. The song is saying that they want fans of the music, to hell with labels who don't care about different music (such as Capitol who mislabeled the band as "metal"). The "let me lie some more" line is a reference to music that was persuaded by Capitol. They were told to alter songs just for singles and sales. The jab at Capitol is made most evident by "Such a pleading case that I made, Convinced them we could do again what we do back then but even better tomorrow", referencing the sales of Vol. 1 and Vol. II and the sales numbers they had. It could also be the transition from Capitol to Amusement and J. Loren saying "we can sale as well as we did with Vol. 1 and Vol. II and even do better".

I can see the misrepresentation of the song being about how bad the world is, based off the first verse. But notice "underneath my eyelids", meaning, in J. Loren's head. He has all this in him. Music is his release, that is obvious. This song is about the band and Capitol records. I will look for something more concrete, but I think it is fairly obvious if you REALLY look at the lyrics and listen to it. Very much a song like Et Al and Thank You For Listening.

Lil' Wayne – 3 Peat Lyrics 13 years ago
All musicians who must sing/rap memorize their songs...typically because they WROTE them and thought them up. Lil Wayne writes, just as everybody else. He is just bad at it. His claim of not writing is to explain why he sounds so unoriginal and boring. A Milli was popular, but that doesn't make it good. Hitler was popular, but not good.

Lil' Wayne – 3 Peat Lyrics 13 years ago
Thank you for being the first comment I've read that makes sense. These fucking 14 year olds who suck Wayne's dick because he is who they heard growing up need a history lesson. Lil Wayne only got big (in 2004, with Tha Carter. Hot Boys was never a big thing people recognized, Lights Out and 500 Degrees are easily the worst rap records by any artist at the time) because guys like Nas and Eminem went away during his rise. Nas got lost with the mainstream because he was busy making amazing albums that were too complex for radio. Stillmatic is easily better than any Wayne album. Also, God's Son and Street's Disciple also further that point. Nas made a song criticizing Kobe Bryant and OJ Simpson for not setting good examples for kids. Lil Wayne is busy getting high during his songs and flaunting it.

Eminem has flat out sold more and been bigger from his start. Wayne couldn't hold Em's jock strap. Period. Drop The World, Em's verse was better. No Love, Em's verse was better. Forever, Em's was better than all 3 of the others, especially Wayne.

Wayne sucks. Enjoy listening to Lil Wayne as he rhymes the same word 3 separate times in a matter of 2 bars.

Parkway Drive – Carrion Lyrics 13 years ago
I just don't see how this song can mean anything outside of love/lost love. I think he (could be Winston, could be just the character of the song or the "speaker") has left, rather it be physically or emotionally. It is obvious, through the song, that he has done this more than once (her heart I've broken again), and regrets it. If it is Winston, then I agree with an above poster who said it is about his girlfriend and him leaving for Europe to tour and America to record. If it is not, then perhaps the "speaker" left due to his own reasons, but promised to return. Or they were simply separated by something they could not control, she is heart broken, so of course he blames himself. He promises he will return and they will be together again.

This song hits home for me on a personal level as my girlfriend is currently 4 hours away and will be for the next 3 years (damn college). So, I can relate real well to this. Been jamming to it all night.

Parkway Drive – Set To Destroy Lyrics 13 years ago
I think he hit it on the head also. The set to destroy line isn't self-destruction of the city or society; rather, it is he who is "set to destroy". He is "set" on "destroying" the wasted, pathetic city.

Also, this song ties nicely with Leviathan I. Think about the whole "story" of Deep Blue. It is an epic journey, much like The Iliad, in that it involves him starting his journey and noticing the pitiful state of the city, or society. Then, he makes his trip to the underworld to be torn apart and "reborn", so to speak. He takes this new-found strength with him to return to the city/society, only to see it is still the same. He starts to fall, only to realize that he can't. He then goes on to realize he is massive in his new strength (Leviathan means the most massive thing of its kind). He realizes that his old path "breaks like glass" (Hollow reference there), and he must forge a new one through the lessons he learned from failures earlier in his journey. He must destroy the city/society. He does. End of story.

That album was epic. I am posting this JUST AFTER listening to the entire album straight through. God it was awesome following the lyrics and seeing the connections between all the songs.

Hurt – Unclean Lyrics 14 years ago
Look at the title. Unclean wouldn't point to religion, IMO. The whole point of religion is becoming clean. The title itself suggests that he is scarred and "unclean" due to a failed relationship. I believe it can be explained the same why House of Cards is explained.

Hurt – House of Cards Lyrics 14 years ago
My own relationship just hit a huge rut and it will fall apart due to this rut, so this song is speaking volumes to me as I write this. To me, it is definitely a relationship song. And it has kind of already been said by hcmtnbiker. This guy has tons of problems and his life is falling apart. He is trying to fix it and tells her he is (my words mean nothing...). She, over time, realizes she is better than him. She doesn't care about his problems. She doesn't care what he is trying to do to fix it (drug addiction COULD be one of these unspoken problems though. We can't cast the rolled it up and smoked it line completely) or what he says he feels for her or what she means to him during his darkest hours.

The "I'm sorry for you" line towards the end is simply saying he is sorry that she could completely push him to the side and not care anymore. He accepts he is a loser and no good, as he always did. But he is sorry she went from a person he thought cared for him to a person who totally agrees and thus, leaves him.
