I absolutely cannot understand how Hurt isn't a multi-platinum selling group. Fantastic music, and lyrics that bring about a real emotional connection, both in the song and on paper.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this could be a continuation of Fossil Genera? maybe im talking outta my ass here, but Fossil Genera basically talks about a society overthrown and left in ruin (correct?), and this song, to me at least, talks about resisting the powers that be.

GREAT song, I am a Christian (laugh it up, guys), but im still amazed by the music, and even the message.
It's about the apocalypse and second coming of Christ through the eyes of someone who carries the mark of the beast, so he knows he's going to hell. Sad. Amazing. |

The message in the stanza,
"Turn the key, walk through the gate,
The great ascent, to reach a higher state,
A rite of passage."
refers to the 'promotion' of a Mason from a lower state, or level, to a higher one. A hypothetical "passing through the gate" is one of many ways of saying that you are 'gaining rank', from a lower level Master to a higher level Master, (level 31-32).
