Florence + the Machine – Falling Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think "fell in your opinion when I fell in love with you" means that the person that she loves disapproves of her now that she loves them. Perhaps a friend who didn't want to go there and now is distant or thinks less of her because they don't want her to keep feeling the way she does. |
Stolen Babies – So Close Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is about trying to break away from the mould. It's so easy to follow the crowd and not have to worry about the "stares" and "attacks". But if you do you become everything that you hate. |
Little Dragon – After the Rain Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Behind a dream so rosy and red a pile of things to forget" "Have you been hiding In your big houses" "We make sure we gain then we leave it" "'Cause were a nation of forgetters" This song sounds to me like the other side of the American Dream. Just talking about how we don't think about the bad things we've done in the past to get where we are or what's sacrificed to get the things we want. It all just seems very materialistic and fake to me. Like the Stepford Wives thing where everything's perfect and fine when really it's not. |
VersaEmerge – Your Own LoV.E Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with Srslysylviaa that those lines speak for the whole song. Though, I don't think it intentionally has any specific religious meaning since the band tries to stay away from that kind of thing, but the song can easily be interpreted as such. Instead I think what that they mean is, "and are you 'honest to God' when you speak?", like when people 'swear honest to God' as an expression, whether they're religious or not. |
VersaEmerge – Lost Tree Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The song is simply gorgeous. We're all trees, growing in the summer until the fall when we change our colors and it leaves us bare. In the summer we grow again. "We stop and grow and stop and grow." Then top it off with a beautiful montage to bring a close to an amazing album. VersaEmerge is a beyond awesome band that doesn't get enough credit. Love them. <3 |
VersaEmerge – Moments Between Sleep Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I also think it's about two (or more) best friends. "Here the seasons don't exist, a summer held in hand." Summer can often mean a bright and cherished time that you don't want to let go of. Since the seasons don't exist they stay in this constant state of summer. In this friendship the two spend this eternity together hand in hand. "Rest while locks melt from our door again." Doors leading to change. I'm not sure if they mean that the locks have been melted away, so they stay resting in their own world; or if they rest trying to stay in their world as the locks to these doors are forced open. Probably the later considering the whole song. "still I know we speak to not forget..." Changes are inevitable and even though they are growing apart, they want to remember the time that they've shared together. "We were all so undone that we couldn't think of one..." Not entirely sure what this means aside from being upset from growing apart. "My eyes won't seem to close I don't want to see it go..." Despite everything, the speaker tries to hold on to their friendship. "In this city's callowness we've lost our innocence." Callow means immature. But they've lost this innocence and have grown up. "Cheek to cheek but my maps are changing... Oh don't forget." Still together but the speaker is starting to take a different coarse from their friend. Nevertheless, they don't want to forget their friendship. "Shooting moons from the sea wall... Rattle the ocean till it falls..." The only reference that I can think of for shooting moons is the game of hearts. In Hearts you want to have the least amount of points, and when a player "shoots the moon" their score remains unchanged while all the other players gain points. This is a very risky move though, since you have to collect all the cards that give you points, so not having one of the penalty cards could give you all the remaining points. This strategy has a high probability of failing. Sea walls form a barrier from the ocean. Oceans can also be a symbol for change. My guess is that the speaker means that from the protection of the sea wall they are shooting moons; in a way, trying to keep what they have the same. However, the strategy fails, the waves of change crash against the wall and it breaks down. "I don't know who you'll be..." The wall fallen, the speaker realizes that they no longer know who their friend is or who they'll end up becoming. "It's amazingly strange, how we all seem to change... Cause we were all so undone... I'm gone." The friends have changed and the speaker has left, even though it hurts to go. ===== Well, though long and winded, that's my interpretation. It's a great song even though it's a bit sad. I love VersaEmerge. <3 |
Emilie Autumn – Liar Lyrics | 14 years ago |
In an interview she discussed how this song is about a person who said all these things "I want to hold you to the sun... etc." but in the end it wasn't true. Hence the "liar" part. She said that that person, despite saying these loving things to her, took how messed she was (the self mutilation and all that) and threw it in her face (kinda like, "this is you, and it's pretty fucked up") and then finding enjoyment out of that. ATM it's still up on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LeO2xc73_k It's about 20 min into it if you want to listen yourself. :3 |
Wale – 90210 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I can't believe no one's commented on this yet. This song is amazing and has real powerful message behind it. I really don't see any point in explaining the lyrics, they speak for themselves quite clearly. |
Gorillaz – Pirate Jet Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Gorillaz – Cloud Of Unknowing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Official lyrics from the iTunes LP: On the cloud of unknowing My world seems open Every set of light up here is watching But I was here from the very start Trying to find a way to your heart Oh, the days of forgetting They've gone out with the tide Lost at sea somewhere, waiting Like setting suns at the rodeo Trying to find someone you never know Oh, sinking love on the cloud of unknowing Every set of light up here is watching Waiting to see what the morning brings May bring sunshine on its wings |
Gorillaz – Don't Get Lost in Heaven Lyrics | 14 years ago |
There's nothing more annoying than people coming around and telling everyone that they're stupid and the song is most definitely about _______. Unless you were the one who wrote the song, or you herd for certain from the person who did write it, you really have no clue what the song is about except in your own opinion. xP |
Gorillaz – All Alone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The lyrics are really off btw. |
Gorillaz – All Alone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Going along with the album theme, I'd say that it's about society in general and all the crap that we do. In the end of the song it could be saying that there might not be hope for us. |
Gorillaz – To Binge Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think the title "to binge" is pretty important. On the iTunes LP there's a video that goes with this. In it there's a sink where, what I assume to be, beer or some other alcoholic beverage is draining down the sink. There's also two bottles. The whole song gives off a numb feeling like a kind of drunken stupor. "Looking for a saw to cut the chains in half" I get the feeling of a wanting to break free. Maybe of the relationship, alcohol & drugs, from the reality & hardships of life? Throughout the song it's talking about rolling into the sea, and getting caught. This makes me think of the saying "there's plenty of fish in the sea" (or something like that xD). Maybe the couple has been together for a long time, and they don't know if they can put themselves out there again to find someone new. Or maybe it's about getting caught into a sea of alcohol? back to the whole drugs thing? And maybe the economy bit is about economic autonomy? Where everyone relies on themselves financially, whether you're with someone or not. My understanding of this song is very vague. But I think overall it's about a relationship that's gone bad and they can't repair it even though they want to. Hmm... in the end I just ended up rambling. >>;; Oh well. xD |
Gorillaz – Rhinestone Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"I'm a scary gargoyle on a tower that you made with plastic power Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away Where the paralytic dreams that we all seem to keep Drive on engines till they sleep with future pixels in factories far away" I thought of this being about consumption and capitalism. The gargoyle kind of representing big business built with "plastic power", like credit cards. "Factories far away" I think of outsourcing and factories in other countries, where all our pollution and ugliness is given to someone else while the higher ups get more money here. "Rhinestone eyes" I think kind of represents greed, like diamonds. But they're not real diamonds, and they're being compared to factories far away, meaning that they're soulless and hollow. Yes you've gained money, but at what cost? These dreams of money and greed are paralyzing and all consuming. "Drive on engines..." Our dreams depend on these factories and the people who are suffering from this system, but we consider them insignificant "future pixels". "So call the mainland from the beach All parties now washed up in bleach The waves are rising for this time of year And nobody knows what to do with the heat Under sunshine pylons we'll meet While rain is falling like rhinestones from the sky" "He's talking about whales washing up on the beach 'in bleach'. the tides and temperatures are changing because of pollution..." -ExistanceIsFutile23 I think this is about right. This verse seems to be talking about how these factories are damaging nature and the earth. "Under sunshine pylons..." Pylons according to Webster can mean gateway, or tower-like structures. So I think they're taking refuge in under these structures while greed and corruption accumulate outside (sunshine vs rain). "I can't see you now my heart is frozen all the bowses and the growses have been abstinated in my soul I prayed on the immovable yet clinging to the atoms of rocks seasons the adjustments signs of change" Growse = To shiver; to have chills Bowse = To haul or pull by means of a tackle I think this is talking about how he's detached himself from others, "you", those who are corrupted and have rhinestone eyes. The seasons bit is more environmental stuff. The seasons slowly shifting because of pollution, etc. The rest is how he's trying to hold on to stability and what was, but despite this things are changing. "I can't see now she said taxi Now red light is all I can take This dawn brings strange loyalties and skies" Now a girl is in a taxi, and she can't see because of the red lights. I think this might be a metaphor of us losing our way, and all we can see is how things are now in a modernized world. This "dawn" bright new world brings new opportunities and makes our life better, but strange because it's corrupted us as well. "I'm a scary gargoyle on a tower that you made with plastic power Your rhinestone eyes are like factories far away Here we go again That's electric That's electric Helicopters fly over the beach Same time every day same routine Clear target in the summer when skies are blue It's part of the noise when winter comes It reverberates in my lungs Natures corrupted in factories far away" I think the helicopter is kind of out of place on the beach, but it's also become part of everyday life. Kind of like modernization not being a part of nature. All these factories and buildings and things are polluting the earth and corrupting nature. "Here we go again That's electric Your loves like rhinestones falling from the sky That's electric We are future pixels in factories far away Here we go again That's electric Your loves like rhinestones falling from the sky That's electric Where future pixels in factories far away Here we go again" "Your love..." Going back to the whole greed thing and our love for money. "we are..." Everything that we've done has come back to us and has ended up hurting us in the end. Now we're insignificant pixels suffering from our own system. Well, at least that's what I got out of it. :] |
