I think it is about just like... doing what you like and not worrying about it, you know? I have to say, I love the lines "Jump with you, sleep with you, cheat on our soulmates and find, some people care and some they don't mind." |

I think it's probably about the main things folks have been saying- about the town he grew up in, and about his father. I mean, his father was part of the same neighborhood, no? He was probably part of the same cycle the other posters mentioned.
I especially like the second verse "Your anger don't impress me/the world slapped in your face/it always rains like hell on the Loser's Day Parade." |

To the guy who said this was an "indie" song and not a "pop," song... go back and actually read some of the posts by the people who call this a pop song.
Anyway. I like both of the two main theories- about the friend who left her for the more popular crowd or just looking back on her own life and seeing how she changed. I'm not sure which one makes more sense and in truth there may never be a real way to know. I think the "talking trash under my window" thing implies that it's about a separate person but not necessarily so.
And about that line, a lot of people seem to view it as a negative thing and that may well be the case. But the image that popped into my head was the two of them talking about the various things they don't like. Other people, parents, school, what have you, with one leaning out her window and the other talking up to her. And the small thing of talking trash under her breath is the only real link the singer notices to the person she used to be.
I don't think the song is really intended to be romantic, though that's possible too. The "dream about me" line implies it's about a significant other but this isn't necessarily the case either.
Anyway. I heard this song for the first time yesterday off the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack and it was really amazing. I loved it and I'm a 23 year old guy. |

Yeah so the lyrics are pretty self explanatory. What I really like about this song is the guitar part. It's just so awesome. Really kickass. I don't know how to explain it but it's really awesome. I also like the name of the song. Dunno why, though I suspect the comic and movie it would go on to inspire play some small part in it.
And for anyone who's only listened to it on the movie soundtrack, I'd advise you to listen to the original version as well. The one on the soundtrack is a little too polished a slick. The original is rougher and I prefer it. |

Little surprised that no one's commented. I heard the song during the closing credits of Red Dead Redemption and it was amazing. It fit so perfectly. Just a haunting song that really worked with the story of the game. I love it. |

Yeah, I don't go into to many Foo songs thinking it's about Kurt but this time I did. I was too young to really get caught up in the whole Nirvana/grunge thing when it happened but I can imagine that aftr Cobain killed himself a lot of people probably looking to the Foo Fighters for... something. Guidance of a kind. And he's not really ready for all that.
That was just my first impression though. a lot of these others make sense. |

I dunno about that. I would think more that she had a bad relationship with her mother and so she picked a "bad boy" as kind of the ultimate screw you.
Of course she didn't think the plan through and then he up and left her. |

I feel like this is a slightly more mellow version of "Bastards of Young." I feel like it's trying to get across the same feelings and attitudes, but "Bastards" he's just gotten a lot angrier about it. |

Yeah I kind of picture this after a night when he hooked up with this girl he's liked for a while. He's really starting to fall for her but he's not sure how she feels so he's hoping she'll stay. |
