It is almost impossible to explain the meaning of a song off of Ten out of the context of the full album, but this one is especially hard, especially taking it out of context of their career. This song is a reference to the band in it's entirety. The line "Fact: When pregnant, she looked fat" is a response to the line in I Promise Never To Get Paint On My Glasses Again, where Dose says "I wonder what my mother looked like pregnant." The lines about butterflies are a reference to Jimmy Breeze, which is partially about someone who he knew in art school committing suicide. This song is saying that the culmination of everything they have done as cLOUDDEAD is wearing thin, and to quote a line from 3Twenty "Sometimes I feel like a spoof of what I used to be, spoof of what I used to be." |

| I don't think this song is actually about Fiona Apple, while her award show behavior is definitely mentioned. It is part of the overall metaphor. I also love the the puns using feminist writers. These aspects combined are why I believe this song is about the awkwardness it is to be a young woman in the modern time as understood from a man. | |

I think addiction is just one image of the overall metaphor of this song, I think over all, this song is about perception and where/what/how/why we emphasis certain things Ex. 1: "And I stopped to go threw em and then in the corner of my eye i thought i saw a dead cat But it was just a wet rat And Then I Woke Up No Wait Wait Wait And Then I Woke Up" the first 2 lines are an obvious connection, but he retracts (intentionally) his final line in the spoken word part because he didn't say it the way he meant to.. Ex. 2:"your wounded lung. everyone's allowed to have these thoughts. after all, this is the song where you sing i am a drug addict for 8 bars." we all have days of low self perception... this is the song where he's listing some of his...
