This song is about the hardships of growing up in a Tenement Square, like Beggar's Bush, for example. Dave King grew up in a tenement square and this song is describing the things he saw going on when he was growing up. |

another correction, if you listen to the complete control sessions, it is not "Some head for glory, others refresh" it is "Some head for glory, others, we crash" |

Just to clear everything up, this song was originally written for the Dublin City Ramblers. It is a song about how much Dublin has changed over the years, the pillar is Nelson's Pillar, blown up by FORMER IRA members. The Met is the Metropole Ballroom, and the royal is the Royal Arms Hotel. All were popular places when the author was growing up but are now gone with the changing of the times. |

The last part of this song on here is actually considered part of the next song, With a Wonder and a Wild Desire, and not part of the Spoken Wheel. |

This song is about a guy the band knew who passed on before his time. Not too sure about the exact circumstances, but this meaning is straight from the mouth of Dave King at a concert in Tulsa, OK |
