Maybe TMI. I fell in love with a friend of mine. One day I, under the influence, told him how I felt. He did not take it well. He pushed me out of his life. That week I discovered this band, the song Chinatown. I must have listened to that song on loop damn near 400 times now. For some reason it comforts me when my feelings for him hurt the most. We spoke a few months ago, he found out I like this band. He told me he listens to them a lot and sent me their song, You’re the One I Want. Those lyrics hurt. I’ve been feeling pretty down about him, it still hurts damn close to a year later. I played this album and found this song. I swear, this is him, and he wants me to wait around for him to finally be a man and tell me that he loved me too. |

So I thought it was kind of funny. This guy friend of mine broke my heart...I told him I was in love with him and he distanced himself immediately. A few months later I showed him my Spotify top songs list because his band’s song was my number 4. He noticed “Chinatown” above it and told me this was his favourite song of theirs. I heard the lyrics and cried and cried. I wondered if he did it to torture me. Later that day I told him I was still in love with him. He won’t talk to me now at all. I love this song, oh the irony. |

I love this song so much. I find it depressing but beautiful. I think this song is about exactly what it says. A poor couple doing what they can to get by. The white men in the black suits are the rich guys at the strip club and they are the ones that the couple works for. They know they are below them and hope one day they will just go away. |

This song has been an insanely huge part of my life. Since the moment I heard it in 2008, I knew I was in love. The words truly spoke out to me like nothing else because I'd never found more relatable lyrics. I am a pessimist loner to my very core and I run away from situations so much that I became a trucker. This song is soo fucking awesome. It reminds me alot of a time when I was in love with a guy and he didn't like me back, and I started trying to starve myself and hurt myself to get his attention to feel bad for me and notice when I wasn't around. I couldn't quit him for anything and it drove me insane.
Well, it's 5 years later and I'm over that nut case phase of my life! But this song is insanely good nonetheless, and the funny part was, I loved it the very first time I heard it and had no idea what it was about. Josh is very hard to understand what he is saying sometimes. |

I remember hearing this song when it very first came out. Well I am hearing it now again 11 years later if I am not mistaken.
I think this song has alot of meaning to me now. I used to be really happy when I was in high school because I thought my life plans would work out exactly as planned. But they didn't. I had to work super hard just to get myself back on track.
When he says processed sanity, i think of all of the people that go to bars and drink every night and think it's an okay lifestyle, it is what we think makes us happy. Since being dumped after a long relationship and trying to be who I was, I have discovered that living where I am makes me so sad. I leave town every chance I get to find new things and figure out how that will be a part of my life. Now I have plans to move every year for the next three years, I am going to RUN and do things I never thought i could do because I was held back my society telling me i was happy at bars and an abusive ex boyfriend.
This song makes me feel good about myself because I am back on the path that I started on when I first heard this song, i found the old qualities in me that could be happy without substance of drinks or a man. Now I am going to run until i get my dream job and find peace with who I was meant to be. Every time I start my road trips, I start with this song.
I cannot wait to reach my dream come true that I wanted 11 years ago. I too have a long way to run. |
