Jefferson Airplane – We Can Be Together Lyrics

Grace was in a band called "The Great Society" before she joined the Airplane. "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love" were originally Great Society songs. Grace wrote another song with them called "Father Bruce" about Lenny Bruce, the taboo-busting comedian of the '60s. Guess what the last word of that song was... |

Radiohead – Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong Lyrics

This song talks about a hugely misunderstood facet of human experience, "limerence" or the ability to "fall in love". Apparently only about half of the population are susceptible; the other half disbelieving and contemptuous.
If you can relate to this, look up the Wikipedia page as an introduction, or get the book by Dorothy Tennov. I only found out about this by having my own comfortable, settled, happily married world turned into dust, and having to dig deep to make sense out of what was happening to me and try to reconcile it and rebuild my life. |

The Flaming Lips – Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Lyrics

Good comments. I prefer the "Ego in Acceleration" mix, though. It has a little more self-flagellation about it, which I think is relevant to the meaning of the song.
The "Self-Admiration with Blowup" mix is a lot more innocent and curious-sounding to me. However, the synth break about 2 minutes in seems pretty egotistical, and the dropouts through the mix are pretty trippy, so maybe that is more relevant to the title.
Including the album mix, that's three great, totally different counterpoint synth melodies from Drozd. A triumph! |

Patti Smith – Rock & Roll Nigger Lyrics

according to "Patti Smith Complete 1975-2006" which I take as the definitive set of her lyrics, the first paragraph is the second half of Babelogue, as correctly reported above. In the book it is written "... i am a moslem..." Of course now when she performs Babelogue, much of it is improvised.
For an example of a recent version, a recording of a December 2008 concert is available at http://recessed-filter.blogspot.com for free download. |
