Lights – Fourth Dimension Lyrics 11 years ago
The actual meaning behind this song is about love, as stated by LIGHTS. It is easy to identify the lyrics with love when you look into them.

"Here's to such an old invention
Dear, we touched the fourth dimension" - Love has been around for so long it is known as an 'old invention' to LIGHTS. It is in a whole 'nother dimension.

Lights – Pretend Lyrics 12 years ago
CORRECT LYRICS!!!!! AS WELL AS TRANSLATION.

Once in a while I act like a child
To feel like a kid again
It gets like a prison
In the body I'm living in

[[[ In this stanza she introduces her yearning to be like a child again. She relates her body to like a prison, because she feels like there is a child inside of a body that is an adult. She doesn't feel like she is in the right place and it's like a prison because of all the social rules of being an "adult" and that she just wants to get free from that and express her child self fully. ]]]

'Cause everyone’s watching;
Quick to start talking;
I’m losing my innocence
Wish I were a little girl
Without the weight of the world

[[[The first two lines of this stanza support the inference I noted above. It is like a prison because she knows that people will be quick to start talking if she acted like a child again and would judge her, so the child in her just stays dormant around others. The "i'm losing my innocence" line also shows how she is getting older and older and being exposed to more adult things and learning to have responsibilities etc...She's learning the ropes of the harsh reality of life and then in the next lines she expresses her yearning to just be like a little girl again without all the responsibilities of being an adult.]]]]

CHORUS:
It would be nice to start over again
Before we were men
I’d give, I'd bend
Let’s play pretend

[[[ "Men" in the second line is the symbol in this song for an adult. She would do anything to go back, to "start over" to when she was a kid again. She said "she'd give" and "she'd bend" saying she would do pretty much anything just to go back to those easy days. Though it is impossible, and she probably knows this underneath this. So she says "let's play pretend." This is the most meaningful line in the whole song. It has a double-meaning and is the ultimate theme. "Let's play pretend" is something a kid would say, and "pretend" is a game that kids usually like to play. So it gives the illusion like she is acting like a kid. But it also references to how she just wants to escape being an adult so bad and be like a kid again that she is suggesting, let's just play pretend and act like a kid again. So it relates to both themes in the song. ]]]

Remember the time
We had soda for wine
We got by on gratitude
The worst they could do to you
Was check your attitude

[[[ She relates soda and wine, soda being something that a kid would drink, is full of sugar, and is just lighthearted in general. On the contrary, wine is quite the opposite. It is very mature and is strong tasting with a bitter taste and gets hard to get used to. Relates the maturity of an adult and the lightheartedness of being a kid. The last lines relate to what the worst could happen to you when you were a kid was your attitude being checked, most likely from your parent(s). When you are an adult, the worst that can happen to you is much more dire and serious...For example, you can be accused of adult crimes etc, and you are more vulnerable to getting hurt, etc.. While when you were a kid you were under the safety of your home/parents etc..]]]

Yeah, when fights were for fun
We had water in guns
And a place we could call our own
How we lost hold of home,
I guess I’ll never know

[[[ One of my favorite lines ever is the first two lines in this stanza. It also gives the scary contrast between water guns and real guns. Also showing the comparison to the hard cold reality that you meet when you are an adult and the fun, laughter, and games when you are a kid. She says a "place we could call our own" which shows how when you are a kid and under the shelter of your guardians, you have one destination and one destination only that is your home( for most anyway.) But that feeling of always having a stable, consistent place to stay at is lost when we go off on our own. We always are changing homes in the future...we are moving along and we are changing ourselves. The "home" not only shows the physical and symbolic representation of your home but also a state within yourself where you feel safety and consistency. You are forced to step out of your comfort zone when you are an adult. She shows confusion by saying she guesses she'll never know how we lost hold of home because it is something that happens so suddenly.]]]

----CHORUS----

And when it’s the end
Our lives will make sense
We'll love, we'll bend (?)
Let's play pretend

[[[ She gives reassurance as to "the end." She is most likely referring to the end of our lives and that at the end everything will make sense and she'll understand the reasons why what happens is what happens.]]]

It's not gonna be long
Before we're all gone
With nothing to show for them
Stop taking lives, come on
Let's all grow up again

[[[ In the first two lines it shows how life goes by so quickly. ]]]

---CHORUS----

And when it's the end,
Our lives will make sense
We'll love, we'll bend,
Let's play pretend

Overall, this song revolves around nostalgia of going back to being a kid while you're an adult. You don't have to be physically, or legally an adult to understand what an adult feels like in this song, you could feel emotionally like an adult and reminisce on the times when it was easier etc. It makes you want to go back to those easy times...when you had no responsibilities and when life was one big game. There were fantasy stories of princes and princesses, there was lots and lots of fun and someone to take care of you and clean up after you in the end. It was really a time that is understandable to miss, no matter where you come from. I'm sure we'd all like to play pretend again.

Florence + the Machine – Cosmic Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I love everyone's interpretations of this song, I have my own interpretation too.
I like to look at the whole song and be able to interpret every line/word as a part of the meaning, because why would she put it there if it had no meaning? I think this whole song is about a girl who is blinded by this immense feeling she feels for this guy, and how it has caused her to go into the "darkness." The beginning states beautifully how he captured her with his heart and now that she has the feeling of love, that she hasn't experienced before it's left her blind because she can't "see straight" now that the power of this feeling has taken over her whole being, and taking away her normal ability to see. I think that she has fallen so far so deep in this love-feeling with him that it is compared to as being in the darkness cause of the depth and because it has become so immense. So then she goes in to detail of this feeling of being in the dark ( the chorus) and how he left her there, he left her with this feeling and it has wiped out everything she has known for certain (the stars the moon) and has left her in this state that she can't get out of. [ "No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight"] exemplifies this in stating how far deep she is in "love", or a strong feeling very similar to love. And the "In the shadow of your heart" confirms that this darkness came from his heart (or his love.) I don't think she would be talking about him hurting her and how she is in the darkness from pain, because she explains of his "heart" and "heartbeat" etc., which implies that he has a heart and wouldn't be the type of person to purposefully cause her pain. I think that the feeling of love can cause you to feel confused and can leave you in a place of "darkness" because of the feeling of having fallen so deep in it, and you can be unsure if the other person feels the same way. Which is explained in the next verse. She heard his heartbeat in the darkness, she tried to find it but then it stopped.- This is the guy unsure about his feelings too of love and he is hesitant to go in the "darkness" with her too or in the immense feeling of love. So she feels like she hears his heartbeat in the dark, but since it stopped, she was left alone and the "darkness I became" beautifully explains how then this darkness that she is in has actually engulfed in her, meaning that she felt very solemn from false hopes of him possibly feeling the same way as she, or him being as far in this love-feeling as she is. (Because you can tell that she is pretty far deep in with this feeling) And then the chorus is repeated, and then the next verse is amazing too. The line "I took the stars from our eyes, and then I made a map, And knew that somehow I could find my way back" shows how she is taking the "evidence" from both of them and trying to find her way out of this misery (of finding out that his "heartbeat stopped") and she knew she would be able to recover. And then she heard his heartbeat, and she realized that he is just as far deep in as she is and feels the same way. So she "stayed in the darkness" with him, or stayed in the depths of this love-feeling with him because now she knows they both feel the same way. And then finally the chorus is repeated two times. This song expresses the struggles one can go through with falling in love and how it often feels like you are in so deep and not knowing if the other feels the same way can leave you feeling like you are in the dark. This song has a happy ending though I feel :) with the "I heard your heart beat, you were in the darkness too..So I stayed in the darkness with you" which shows that she is reassured that she is not alone in this feeling.

Sorry for the super long explanation, I just love this song so much and love the meaning that I tried in explaining it the best I can, 'cause it is just so amazing! I <3 Florence + The Machine !

Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song more now than I did before now that I understand fully all the lyrics. It's about a girl (Leona) who had been hurt by love so many times before until she met this guy that she finally fell in love with truely, but now that she finally found this guy everyone doesn't want her to be with him. You can feel the desperate emotions through this song...and that people keep trying to tell her that she shouldn't be with him and it starts to pull her down but she knows that she must stand up for (what she believes in ) who she loves. And she explains how great it feels to be with him("But nothing's greater than the rush that comes with your embrace")..but no one can see it and they think that she is just going crazy! The chorus exemplifies on the fact that whenever she is with him he just opens her up (aka the "cutting her open") and she can't stop expressing her love towards him (aka the "bleeding" love) I think bleeding is a good term to symbolize this because it is like a constant flow like it just keeps flowing from her heart. I am in love with this song. I analyzed it for an English project. <3

Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy Lyrics 15 years ago
Yes the secret message to this song is F-U-C-K ME xD
Omg have you seen the music video for this song?
I know the whole meaning behind the music video:
So in the beginning she is at this like whore house place (i just call it that but its like a naughty place where people have sex i guess) and its shows her throughout the first like 3/4 of the song being whore girl with slutty clothes, and stuff like that, and then 3/4 in it shows her changing into her regular clothes and how she is exiting the "whore house" place and going back to her successful, goody-two-shoes life with a husband and children. The meaning is that her big secret is that she is really a naughty girl even though she appears as a goody-girl in rl.

This song and video I think targets teens because teens love how the song and video represents rebellion and doing something your not allowed to do, but not giving a shit, :P and has sex-appeal targeting teens too, with all its sexy-like dance moves that some of them represent having sex.

Watch the video and you'll know what I'm talking about.

My opinion is that I think this song is really addicting but its stupid.
