In high school I dated a girl I loved deeply. We both cared for each other a lot. Neither of us were very popular socially. Not unpopular, just kind of faces in the crowd. But whenever we would stop to share a hug or kiss as we parted, people would yell things out. She also had a twin sister who was gay, so we would get catcalls from people mistaking her for her sister, and thinking she was two-timing me with a girl, which she wasn't. But we were mocked and had abuse yelled at us constantly. We related to this song greatly, because it felt like us against the world, to be honest. Her and I alone had to deal with it. So we "took care" of each other. And that is what this song will always be about for me, even if she and I are no longer together. |
