In an interview with Dutch music magazine ´Oor´, Matsson said there was an earthquake in Sweden and Norway in 1904. Which makes sense, Matsson being Swedish, not American/San Fransiscan. It was the biggest to hit Scandinavia in ages. It is known as the Oslofjord earthquake. There is only a wikipedia-page about it in Norwegian, Swedish and Dutch. So I guess most of you will have to use some kind of translator. The song is about more than just the earthquake itself, I take. Maybe taking the earthquake as some metaphore for an incident after which everything is or seems different. |

| The year in the title is the year an earthquake took place in Sweden, which is Matssons home country. He said in a Dutch magazine that this was what the title referred to. But I guess it´s just one step in how to interpret the lyrics of this song. | |

I think it's more than that. Of course, it sounds like a celebration of their (the singer and the one he speaks to) long lasting great friendship. But there is more to it. In the first verse, the singer paints a picture for the future, where they (he and his friend) tell their children of the glourious life they've had (romantic tales of distant years, our gilded age). But then, after that, he almost begs his friend (or maybe it's his girlfriend, or his band) to stick with him and don't leave him. Adding to this: "remember all we fight for", which would be the situation described in the first verse, them being able to tell great tales of their past to their children. Just my view of it. It's not actually a song about being happy, but a song about trying to achieve happiness by motivating a friend (girlfriend, band) to stay put. |

It's about going out expecting to find 'the one' someday. He remembers how his dad met his wife while going out and dancing with the women at the bar, so he's expecting to meet his woman the same way. He thinks his friends will meet their women like that is well. I love the thought. It's a bit naive. Maybe that's why the song sounds a bit melancholic, he doesn't really believe it anymore and he wishes it could only be this simple, or that he could be only as naive to believe it again. |

Okay, that's something different for a comment on a song. But anyway. A girl stole his heart, and he wants it back so he can break it over her. Its about how a girl doesn't really has an intention to break someone's heart, but it breaks anyway. So basically it's breaking your own heart when you're in pain over a girl you can't have. |

The meaning is very much striaghtforward: he hates it that he and other people worry much more about themselves than for problems like the Middle Eastern conflict. Don't know about the title though. Maybe kissing his girl doesn't taste the same anymore because of what she's saying in her sleep, or because they perhaps should worry about bigger problems? |

I saw them live as well. Great band. I agree mostly, but I don't think she has left him yet, hence the phrases "you gave me a second chance today" and "room for you to leave". I think it's about him realizing he has nearly messed up their relationship or still is messing up their relationship. |
