The key to nothing could allude to the concept that to ascend to the highest of the high and become one with 'it/HIM', you must be able to give up EVERYTHING. All dualities, existence, life, memories, time is all based on the division of the whole into the first duality and from then on, the 10,000 things (all existence). In some spiritual practices, the aim is to reunite with the highest of the high and to do that you must reunite with the whole/One/God. In some beliefs, God is the absence of all dualities, timeless, omnipotent. So to cross the final bridge/void/branch/step you must be fully ready to give up who you are, existence, and all concepts of self to reunite. (more of a thought concept, not a cult/social concept). Wow, I dont see how anybody got being in jail from the lyrics, but at the same time, I am not seeing through their eyes. Im sure KuD was just being a smart ass when he made that statement about the song being about somebody in jail. Almost like throwing something out there and seeing who will latch on to it and take it without question. This song to me is about somebody renouncing the commonly accepted organized religion (as a social structure and not a spiritual structure) and finding their own path spiritually and reaching into themselves, new feelings and experiences not felt before and expressing them. But at the same time damning and hatefully accusing/judging the place the individual left. Now my long winded and half assed interpretation of what I believe is the message of the lyrics: ------------------------------------------ Frozen moments in time, Stopped hourglass, They predicate, what you will know, Dispositions lie within, And so do we, Don't want to run. Don't want to hide, Renounce the prayers for inspiration, If you dictate what I will be Then smash my face upon the concrete I'm weary, I feel the stares piercing, So sorry to soil your precious eyes, Reflections spoon-feed you, The bitterness and disgust that is me, If you choose to reach out to lend to me, I'll chew off your hand I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change I'm in touch with myself, All alone within myself, All one. Alone ------------------------------------------ In this section he PROBABLY is talking about how most people feel at church who think differently or who question the basis/foundation, trying to find their own spiritual path. "Frozen moments in time, Stopped hourglass," Probably means that the 'church' is stuck in the past "They predicate, what you will know" trying to cast the individual, and telling the individual their limits. Limiting what the individual will be spiritually. Establishing finite boundaries. "Don't want to run. Don't want to hide, Renounce the prayers for inspiration, If you dictate what I will be Then smash my face upon the concrete I'm weary," THe individual wants to find their own path and be themselves and not what 'they' want him to be and is obviously fresturated and angry about it. "I feel the stares piercing," If you have ever worn a t-shirt to church, you know exactly what this line means and the Judgements that go along with the stares. "So sorry to soil your precious eyes, Reflections spoon-feed you," Probably is talking about sarcasam of not living up to the image/standards that 'you' wanted me to be "If you choose to reach out to lend to me, I'll chew off your hand" Doesn't want any help or counseling. "I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change I'm not beggin' for your fuckin' change I'm in touch with myself, All alone within myself, All one. Alone" Self explanatory --------------------------------------------- Do what you will make it the whole of your law, Burn down the faith that shadows life And take a deeper look inside of what makes you Pull down the shades internal light can be blinding Brilliance I'm not begging for your fuckin' change, I'm just begging for a fuckin' change, Complacence quenched of me" ----------------------------------------------- "Do what you will make it the whole of your law, Burn down the faith that shadows life" In agreement with "rober_grim_reaper" above "And take a deeper look inside of what makes you Pull down the shades internal light can be blinding Brilliance" Talking about realizing the inner spirituality and individual path 'he' found inside 'himself' and how bright the light he found within 'himself' "Complacence quenched of me" Could mean that 'he' no longer feels that 'he' has to 'comply' with the 'standards/influence' of the place the individual left ------------------------------------------ My lazy summation of the rest (because didn't realize how long winded I can be): To me, the song describes the individual's new spiritual discovery, finding his own 'version of a truth' and and the casting of the shell/cast of who he was and bitterly discarding (what could be called a 'perversion of a truth') and judging his old way, even though he was disgusted with the way 'they' were judging him. |

I agree with KAISERSWAYZE there is definitely a reason why he screams DAATH in the middle of the song. "(I'm not the only one...) that walks between the rain, there are many" Occult (not a negative meaning, only means "Hidden") practices are not really promoted and displayed in public, unlike other religions, so they mainly keep hidden from public eye (Oath of Silence). So I would call these "the people that walk between the rain". There are many people who practice and study the Occult studies, but you don't know about it because they don't advertise. ("There are Many") On a side note: (referencing a my comment for Mercy and Severity) I really like how Mudvayne does their lyrics. Its just like Occult texts. Gives you a little something to chew on rather than a quick and shallow gratification. Hidden in plain sight. Most people (not trying to sound egotistical, just trying to illustrate a point, sorry) take the surface meaning of something and run with it, but through careful observation and study ("The eye of yin rewards understanding") the richer and deeper meanings arise and the reward for dutiful study is presented. for the concept of the Yin. One of the infinate dualities between Yin and Yang are the Hidden and Obvious. Yin being the hidden and yang being the obvious. My take on the lyrics: Portal sits deep within the eye, The eye of Yin's severity, Rewards understanding Yin being the hidden, from discovering and understanding the hidden, the knowledge is the reward. The line "Portal sits deep within the eye" could mean diligent and careful observation leads us to the ability to pull back the veil of the hidden. Or it could refer to the concept of the third eye which is a point between the eyes and above the brow that through diligent meditation and gradually getting more yin (passive, calm, no action) opens the third eye, the eye of yin and the ability is the reward (through understanding). "The eye of Yin's severity" This could mean the concept of Yang within Yin. Which means, within Yang there is a seed of Yin and within every Yin there is a seed of Yang. That nothing can be truly yin and truly yang. So understanding that within Yin (Mercy) there is a seed of Yang (Severity) the understanding the concept and consciousness of that is a reward. Just a few takes. |
