That Mercer lived in England would lend credence to that. After all, England used to put persons in prison for being gay (e.g. Alan Turing, chemical castration). But the lyrics imply a much broader theme (ref-> "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_Farm"). |

First off, ElvisAteMyDonuts is very insightful. This song is just great sound. Trying too hard to figure out the lyrics will drive you insane. Suffice it to say, this tune is broadly about modern life turning humans into farm animals (stead, foal) and that there will always be humans in the tribe wondering if one can get out of it (flying). The ironing is that technology may eventually lead to more individual freedom as the state loses control (everyone will be using PGP!, SSL proxies, etc) |
