| Black Sabbath – Sabbra Cadabra Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
One thing everyone is missing herE: The name, what is that referring to. Abracadabra has many derivations, and meanings, most of them esoteric and mystical/ dealing with cures etc... So perhaps, Sabbath transposed their "Sab" on the front of in an adaptation of the term---hinting that Sabbath is imposing their will over someone, or they are the cure to somethign... Hard to really know. I think the song is too basic to be considered jsut a love song. I agree with the preious posts that their is a cynical side to this song, and perhaps is does revolve around love---but for what...we'll never know. could be a girl, could be the dragon--too hard to say. I feel the meaning is in the name's interpretation thoguh . SOmeone find it. do it, do it... |

| Bob Dylan – Queen Jane Approximately Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
You know guys, not everythign has to be about pot, nor is this song "obviously" about pot. In all of his verses, Dylan is speaking to Queen Jane. He references situations "Queen Jane" is oging thourgh, and then offering a cynical solution to come see him. I thin kthe interpretation of Queen Jane ebign someone he knows and is currently in disappro val of his/her current situation is more accurate. Chew on this: If Queen Jane was pot, the nwhat do any of the verses mean: 1. Mother and father returning invitations to an assumed gathering/wedding due to queen Jane's personal dissatisfaction with her life. Why is weed not happy with it's life: 2. Second verse is referencing society and their apparent nonsubstantiated promises existence. So weed was promised a fake and fleetign lifestlye with the upper crust of society. Hardly. 3. Third verse...the commmisioned clowns. Could be fake friends, yes-men, employees hired for various support. These people again ahve failed her and are not what they seem to be. Why is Queen Jane (or weed as you infer) surrounding itself with these people. Weed is not a perosn, and the use of weed is also not as concrete as tosuggest Bob is talking to it. 4. Fourth verse: The advisours/therapists/doctors are thowing plastic (prescrioption pills/medication) at Queen Jane, looking for a quick fix ,and a way to justify her failings. Again, weed makes no sense. 5. Fifth and final. THe laying down of her adversaries. now that the drama is over, she let these bad guys do what they did, ofrgave them and now is left feelign empty. What now? Kinda a verse refering to the revelation that taking her higher road is not as satisfying as it shiould have been. Queen Jane approximately is a reference to a person Bob knows, a person caught up in his/her lifestyle of misplaced morals and pursuits. A person Bob wishes better for and hopes she will see the light. Maybe I am wrong, but weed makes no sense here. |

| Phish – Wolfman's Brother Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I hate to be the guy, but I thought this could be about smaking? I htought perhaps in an odd, and common Phish theme, they incorporated a past occurance or individual in a song in a crypitic manner. In this case, Wolfman could be hairy buds, and his brohter could be a different kind of weed. Or the Wolfman's brother could be a bong. Many people name their bongs. The lines that get me to this poinnt are the references to "cavitations" and "cross between a hurricane and a ship that's run aground" All of those noises could be references to the bong noise? Vary consistent I think. The song kinda makes more sense as one of Phish's groupings of "nonsense songs" as I call them. (in a resepctufl use of nonsense) Again, sorry be being the guy talking about buds. |

| Led Zeppelin – The Rain Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
It seems that everyone is missing the point of the website--"song meanings". I think there are probabaly other sites out there named "who thinks they are smart", and "who is the greatest Led Zeppelin fan" or even "I am bette than you.com" or something like that. Anyways, the Rain Song is not a tenuous reference to a bible quote, nor is it some cheap attempt at a ballad. Sure, Harrison may have helped influence the song, but ultimately, it is a love song. The song deals with a relationahip that has gone sour, but will be rekindled once again. The winter is the time that things aren't going that smoothly, the spring time is the relationship beginning again. Sunlight, rain is all love. you need sunlight and water to grow a plant, which in this case, is the love or relationship. Ultimately, this song proabably deals with Robert Plants usually tumultuous relationship with wife, but really, it applies to everyone. Great song. ps> Music is not black and white, and there is no way to quantify one song versus another. The comparisons and judgements based upon Stairway is ridiculous. |

| Grateful Dead – I Know You Rider Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This is a traditional blues tune. Dead covered and jammed it well. This is one of the many songs with traditional railroad references/imagery in ti. Take fro mthis song what you will--personally, I feel this song is a tale of transition, a tale of one man's progression through life. I think that ithis person realizes that to grow in life, he has to leave things behind that may be conforting at the time, but in the end, are no good for him . Wishing to be a headlight on a northbound trail is the desire to lead somone or somthing to better things. Depending on how the jam goes, this song can take on different feelings/attitudes. Great interpretation. |

| Grateful Dead – Black Peter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It was about a bad acid trip Robert Hunter had one night. | |
| Grateful Dead – Throwing Stones Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Obviously it is a social and global commentary on the earth and humankind's negative impact upon it. Overall, things are going allright on this planet if you think about it. Unfortuantley, if you look closer, there are a myriad pof problems which are glassed over by those who have the ability to change them. I think this song is mainly aimed at man's inherent wekness of pride and our inability to point the finger at ourselves when something is wrong. Overall, the song can provide hope. The song calls for the empowerment of individuals--a wake up so to say. The meaning is correct, if you rely upon others to change things, it won't happen. Whether it be politics, crime, environmental issues etc... all great acts start with one person. Great song. |

| Metallica – Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| You think you know? You'll never know--Metal is stronger than wood. That is why I built my temple on a base of rock. | |
| Metallica – Orion Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song shows the power of the band. It shows their versatility and it showed me how to love, and hate at the same time. It is like living and dying, drinking and puking, jumping and falling, f'in and fighting--all at the same time. Makes you want to go out and install a bass guitar inside your own head. Believe me, I did it. Iam now part man-part bass guitar. My kids will ahve guitar strings for their hair, and a pick-up for their ears. I will plug them in and rock my neighborhood to the ground. Burn the world with power chords. | |
| Neil Young – Trans Am Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Trans Am is an analogy for capitalistic "progress". Trans Am is a criticism of American "development" and placing the highest priority on financial profit. (Does Neil have a political and social commentary to make---no, it can't be?) The Trans Am could not be stopped, it just kept rolling on. Ultimatley though, the Trans Am does show wear. There is hope. The broken headlight gives us hope. Praise the headlight! Wow man. | |
| Neil Young – Words (Between The Lines Of Age) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| A man is on theoutside looking in. This man is dreaming of things, hoping that his dreams will become a reality. Could be the lawn mowing guy workign at an expensive home, a car salesman sellign Ferraris, the wedding planner unlucky in love. Always within touch but out of reach. | |
| Neil Young – Natural Beauty Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Powerful and poetic--typical Neil. Very beautiful song with an obvious meaning. We need to take a step back and realize all the good thigns we have, becasue they will one day be gone. Preserve beauty, preseve goodness, preserve life. | |
| Neil Young – Big Parade Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| neil jsut needs abreak--needs time to take it all in and be himself. Pressure. the whirlwind of life. It can be hard to handle. Stop in a bar and have a brew to relax. | |
| Neil Young – For The Turnstiles Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Very Neil. A very typical Neil song about the ephemeral nature of life. Each verse deals with one man's perception v. reality. In each case a seemingly great feeling is proved to be nothing more than a happy drop in an otherwise unfeeling ocean of life. Everyone leaves for the turnstiles at some point. Death and taxes man. | |

| Neil Young – Cortez The Killer Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Grow up River Wolf. you really class yourself with a comment like that. I love political dissention more than the next guy, but be smart, or wesle your message is tossed aside--as Cortez did to the North American natives. | |
| Tool – No Quarter (Led Zeppelin cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
One more point. The fact that Tool covered the song is an obvious gesture of respect. They would be disappointed to hear that people were condemning the Zep version--writing it off as "garbage" or whatver you called it. Enjoy them both, but respect the roots. Similarly, all of you with the baggy jeans, wallet chains, "goth" hair and nails, balck t-shirts, and bullshit obsessions with pot where the same rock and rollers from Zep's generation, so again, respect your elders. Maybe put down the video game controller and pick up a guitar and try learnign for yourself. |

| Grateful Dead – Casey Jones Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Why does everyone feel the need to classify nad judge. Be who you are. If you find that you gravitate towards others like you, congratulations, you are alive. Every species of life surrounds itself with similar, or at least, helpful other species. So give up the government blah blah blah rhetoric, and jsut chill and live. Listen to the music, take from it what you will, and live til you die. |
