Protest the Hero – Bone Marrow Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah, arif writes all the songs.
also, arif does do the low screams on this, bloodmeat, wretch and in goddess bound.

i've seen them live, and he clearly does the lower screams, rody is more about clean vocals, high vocals and his screaming.

btw, protest the hero is one of the most talented bands on the planet, considering they're in their early twenties.

Klaus Pyro – Happy Anniversary Lyrics 16 years ago
this song tells the tale of a couple, whether it be common-law, marriage or girlfriend-boyfriend whose relationship has gone horribly awry.

the male tells his story of not liking/loving his partner and speaks of her harshly "your a fucking bitch"

however the female seems to have a mental illness, "to be the reason you take those pills"

the male seems to want the female dead or hurt in some way however near the end of this short poem, the female seems to want the same and the tides turn to the females perspective and shes jsut as bloodthirsty as the male

the conclusion is the male dies at the hands of the female probably due to the overcoming of oppression from a strangling and abusive partnership

Klaus Pyro – We're Out Of Gas And Out Of Luck Lyrics 16 years ago
pretty self-explanatory.

a girl and a guy were in soe sort of relationship whether it be friendship or romantic and there drifting apart.

driving and highways used as a metaphor for her "driving away" from him to go somewhere eles and be with someone else.

the guy has lost all feeling for her because either she did something or lost interest in the relationship and so when she leaves he doesnt care anymore and finally feels free, yet alone, for the first time in a long time.

Klaus Pyro – I Knew I Should've Eaten That Banana Lyrics 16 years ago
i believe this is about a guy who spends a lot or all of his time alone. he must have been somewhere or done something that has isolated him from his friends.

now all he does is write his problems, probably in a journal. yet even this is wearing thin of meaning.

"locked in this cage" either means he was grounded or he went to prison and upon being un-grounded or out of prison hs friend have grown accustomed to having fun adn going to events without him and hes become forgotten.

hes alone and doesnt understand why his friend deserted him and he wishes he still played a part in someones life.

Klaus Pyro – God Doesn't Teach In Sunday School Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this is about a boy who is frustrated by the fact that a girl ignores him, but he doesnt know what he did to cause this.

he apologizes and tries to figure it out by doesnt have anything. he then deems it a trust issue and somehow broke her trust an realizes that he cant get it back and shes made up her mind

Protest the Hero – A Plateful of Our Dead Lyrics 16 years ago
i agree with ravolution, the cd contains many comparisons of kezia to jesus.

being crucified for the greater good, yet not truly understood as a saviour as she is as a problem.

i think at the end the band is telling us the priest and guard are terribly regretful of what they did and somehow they knew all along that she was not meant to die

yet the "social justice" system overpowered there intutition and she ended of dying because they couldnt say anything

"could never beat the same horse as before", exactly. i believe the priest and guard left the prison because they couldnt go through this again.

Protest the Hero – Blindfolds Aside Lyrics 16 years ago
yeah the "sin i didnt care for, but a sin that paid my debts.." i believe is about the executioner being the executioner. like the "sin" is his job. he breaks the commandments and kills, no matter if "social justice" deems it justifiable.

i believe this is about him realizing that kezia is different. he knows he shouldn't kill her but is anyway, and until now hadnt realized that what hes doing is actually morally wrong but socially correct which is a huge problem in soceity.

he almost comes to terms with himself and stops the execution "drop the gun, shake away the blindfold from your eyes" but then realizes its his job and duty overpowers moral responsibility.

the songs on the album i believe adhere to the fact that kezia is something different. that she is showing the world something, i believe to be the fact that womens rights are to far and too little still, and that people can die for a crime not worth dying for while others commint heinous crimes and are set free, which ties into "social justice" theme that is prevalent in this cd. and in being different kezia affects the people around her, showing them the true beliefs and truth of what there doing in their lives.

first the priest than the prison guard/executioner and finally us the listener who ahs been taken on this turbulent journey.

its all and underlying message, a moral, like aesops fables

and its hinted that were learning morals from the repeated use of the word "moral".

protest the hero is an amazing band to have come up with such a complex adn intricate yet highly enjoyable and deep listening experience.

this is what music should be.

Protest the Hero – The Divine Suicide of K. Lyrics 16 years ago
the line "bleed...like the little girl..years ago deceased" i see this to mean she was either raped or molested at a young age by someone she trusted.
and i also think that kezias crime was killing her father
since i believe he raped her
also kezia is writing a letter to her mom and not her dad or both
because her father was killed by her
and in the end shes being killed so the world can learn that pedophilia messes people up
becuase i also think she killed her father but also worked as a prostitute in her older age as obvious in Turn Soonest to the Sea.
so kezia murdered her father for raping her as a little girl
and she is being executed as capital punishment
yet the world will know that a) prostitution isnt a choice but merely the only thing someone has to turn to and b) the fact that kezia is bieng killed for murder yet her father wasnt for "murdering" her spirit and trust in the world.
all summed up that women are still treated differently as men and kezia shouldnt be killed she should be hailed for destroying the evil that exists in our world.
it shows how the world can kill the good due to the illusion its all bad

this cd reminds me a lot of "The Green Mile". lol i dont know why.

Protest the Hero – Nautical Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is great almost going back to th epolitical protest the hero of old
i think this is the prison guard reflecting on what he thinks the execution means.
he thinks it an unjustified punishment to the crime.
the guard reflects on the bombing of iraq "dropped the bombs on goodness when we saw it wasnt flawless"
he metaphorizing (its a good word i believe) on the fact that kezia did something, prosistution or what have you and the response is thrown out of porpotion and the punishment doesnt fit the crime
yet he always reflects that her death could result in the greater good and submits to the idea of benefiting her execution to the world

also "would-be American daughters" i assume this to be kezia since she is being killed she "wouldve been an american daughter"

correction : its not "the closest thing to a fashion trend thats ever been bulletproof" its, 'the closest thing to a fashion trend thats ever been put on trial."

Protest the Hero – Divinity Within Lyrics 16 years ago
i believe the priest sees the face of god in kezia and is frightened.
"But glanced at me in ways that brought to life my sleeping fears"
as in the song before Heretics and Killers, the priest is losing or has lost his faith and now sees it more of a profession than a calling.
so when he sees the holiness of kezia and the realization they are almost re-inacting the crucifixion of christ he is afreaid to say anything and realizes that the world, and himself have fallen into despair for killing god again
he wants god to peel away his outer shell of faithlessness and hesitantcy to believe and make him divine again.
its almost as if the priest is having a epiphany in kezia and her presence.
a epiphany he doesnt actually want for in the way he words it its almost as if he has completely done away with god
especially in the willingness to hear her last words and not stop the execution
a priest without a god
showing the al encompassing effects of injustifiable punishment against crimes committed.

Dead and Divine – Goodnight, Quiet City Lyrics 16 years ago
the actual line is "engines on, the brakes are shot"
this song is about the last ride of a guy and girl
that eventually ends in the girls death "because they wont recognize who there taking pictures of, theres so much blood."
this could be seen as the last legs of a relationship, the last ride when something finally goes wrong and it crashes and burns resulting in tragedy, i.e. girls sadness, she "dies" inside.
also, the girl couldve done something to cause the break up, as noted in the lines "the engines on the brakes are shot." this could be seen as it was pre-emptive this breakup. that it was planned or it accidentally happened due to the fault of the girl. i.e. cheating. in the end hes saying goodnight to her in all her faded glory "princess".
and goodnight to the city, which could be there relationship.
hes saying goodbye to their relationship.

thats what i think at least.
