I see it as going even a little further - he's not making a casual declaration, these are for some important occasion, they're vows.

The Rolling Stones – Jumpin Jack Flash Lyrics 9 years ago
The song isn't about the gardener, he was only the clever inspiration for the title character.
The song is about the turmoil and the drug-fueled chaos they experienced during their writing and recording of the album 'Their Satanic Majesties Request' . The character is a survivor, a hero in a wild, chaotic, unpredictable world. He's been tried, and has passed all tests, even thrived.

The Joy Formidable – Cradle Lyrics 10 years ago
Instead of the commonly stated view that it's about the end of a relationship (really only supported by the one line "when all I wanna see is the end of this"), perhaps it is simply about a fight - a lover's quarrel.

I agree with cosmogonic, there does seem to be a tone of regret or shame here. This could simply be the result of things said in a fight - the "vicious tongue"; "sticks and stones, leading to apologies". Or maybe the words said were indeed beyond retrieval: "I wish the cobwebs would cover me" - I wish I was dead, then I wouldn't feel this shame.

And in the end, regardless of how short tempered and vicious the words, there's only one person that is truly loved.

Yes, it's all about lucid dreaming.
Don't just dream of a different world... direct your dreams to create your own world.

Django Django – Hail Bop Lyrics 11 years ago
Sounds like a passionate Ode to Devo -
Distorted, hooky guitar;
Trippy synth carrying the melody line;
Offworld lyrics with repetitive, dynamic, melodic vocals.
Very reminiscent of Mongoloid and Beautiful World.
Love it, Love it, Love it!

Journey – Wheel in the Sky Lyrics 11 years ago
Hmm, not sure why so many want to see a religious reference. Sure, it's easy to imagine an allusion to Ezekiel's wheel, but there's nothing else in the lyrics to support that - no hope, no failth, no love, no future, no help from God...nothing (and no angels, chariot or wheels).

What there is, is a really good description of endless days far away from home with only forlorn despair and little hope for return. The Wheel In The Sky is the endless passage of time,,,sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, day after day time keeps on moving, and the passage of one's life never seems to get you closer to home.
He's probably still out there, wondering if he will ever get home.

Nice choice, Pumkinhed, but you should already have a copy of Bossanova.
(unless you've worn it out, in which case...it's time to have a fundraiser and get some donation money to set the world aright again)

My Bloody Valentine – Only Shallow Lyrics 13 years ago
Contains possibly the best MBV hook ever. Starts you off with that noisy, psychedelic guitar, then lulls you with Bilinda's sweet, ethereal voice, then hits you hard, right in the ear with that awesome riff, just to remind you of how great it is.
This is how you translate emotion into music.

Contains possibly the best MBV hook ever. Starts you with that awesome, noisy, psychedelic guitar, lulls you with Bilinda's ethereal voice, then keeps hitting you with that hook as a refrain, just to remind you how great it is. Simply briliant, >THIS< is how you translate emotion into music.

My Bloody Valentine – Honey Power Lyrics 13 years ago
Love how Kevin actually plays the refrain as a guitar driven melody line. He can't sing like Bilinda, but he doesn't have to now does he.

Oh, yeah, just as FaaipDeOaid noted, the Coda is great.

My Bloody Valentine – Swallow Lyrics 13 years ago
Love the Clarinet sounding melody in the background, combined with the subtle bongo riff throughout, it has a very snakecharmer-like quality. Just awesome how they MBV'ified it with the washed out guitar noise over the top of everything. This is the sound of Love.

You can absolutely enjoy oral sex as an act of Love. I think that is the not-so-hidden theme...a joyous description of a freely given gift.

My Bloody Valentine – Don't Ask Why Lyrics 13 years ago
This song has unusually clear lyrics for a MBV song, though Kevin's singing is not at all ethereal in the way Belinda's is, so lacks that distinctive sound that MBV has.
Still, being able to decipher the lines reveals that consistent theme of love, romance troubled relationships that permeates the MBV library.

Glider has no lyrics, it's an instrumental, yet somehow the melody says so much...
(The lyrics captured here are actually from "Soon")

Phantogram – Running From The Cops (Instrumental) Lyrics 14 years ago
I feel the instrumental version really accentuates the lyrics. If you listen really hard you can almost hear the vocals...or maybe it's just the voices in my head, I can never be sure.

The Crow ST version is essentially TKK warped into Ministry. A much better version is TKK's own morph into Nervous Xians.

Sufjan Stevens – You Are the Rake Lyrics 17 years ago
Given the strong Christian theme to most of Sufjan's music I'd say that it's not a woman he's talking about, but God.

Even so, all of the previous interpretations still fit exceptionally well.

The New Pornographers – Challengers Lyrics 18 years ago
In an NPR Interview Carl Newman recently revealed that he wrote this song after having met the woman he is currently married to. They discovered they loved each other but were both married to someone else and had to walk away and say 'Let's meet again someday". Amazing songwriter to capture these difficult emotions so well.
