had to write it up as i couldn't find the lyrics anywhere if anythings wrong please feel free to correct as some of the whispered words were hard to make out at points as for interpretation: someone whos lost there direction, they're stuck in a bad place from what i gather and cant seem to find a way out. losing all sense of whats theres and what isnt, and theyve gone round this pattern so many times its almostlike they're forgetting how to feel ie becoming numb, who knows its an awesome song with an incredible atmosphere :D |

honestly, even from the first lines i get the impression of a failing relationship. yes i can see the political interpretations but to me it sounds like its coming from a guy whos coming to the point in a relationship where he barely recognizes the person who was once closest too him hence the first few lines. his lifes obviously changed and not for the good hence his partner wanting to save him but he become so different from what he used to be he doesnt want or maybe feel he can be saved by them as hes grown so far apart from said partner. i also get the impression from the whole song that theres a kind of remorse and failure for letting this happen yet time waits for no one and he possibly feels he'll never be able to reclaim what they once had. well something like that i find these things hard to put into words sometimes. |

definitely my favourite BR song along with Broken. Personally to me this comes across as the battle between science and faith and how uncompromising both sides are to each other. i just get the impression that their trying to say "heres what science thinks of life and heres what religion thinks now go weigh them up make youre own decisions but you dont have to be just one or the other. have your own ideas that could be somewhere between the two. which i think comes from the lines: "I had a dream, light and carefree But now there's doubt and gravity But I won't run in place (Are we blind?) in the human rat race (There's no way) I can set the pace (What we have) and accept my fate (Is shattered faith)" i think thats why its called shattered faith to me its about not picking a side of extemism but pieceing together fragments of both to make your own views and judgements live by that hence the last two lines. thats what i get anyway though i like some of the other interpretions to :D. |

i like some of the ideas for how this song plays out, it does seem to tell an interesting story. to me i kinda see my life while growing up getting told you'll never amount to nothing your just broken you and fighting back " a little cracked, but that amounts to nothing" against all odds, on a personal note the verse about the girl reminds me of when i met my current partner and even how even we were on such different levels when we met. the bit "It's so sad no one saw it coming, The paper said that he hit the ground running" seems like two parts rather than one; its sad that no one ever paid attention, but when you come out the other end hitting the ground running is like your just taking it in your stride and takes everyone by suprise. and "when the worlds turning on you, dont turn on me" is like now, it feels like you've had to fight the world off in the past but you dont need to all the time anymore, that to me is like remembering its still cool to let your guard down cause if you keep fighting the world it will turn on you! i love this song cause it reminds me of struggling against everything and coming out the other end and yeah i'm "a little cracked but that amounts to nothing". i know its a wierd interp but thats just how i see it. final note bad religion awesome end of! |

i love this song to bits i agree its about your core self your colours and that when you get attacked stay true to your colours hold them against the wall. but the bit that says "she looked into your eyes and saw what lay beneath don't try to save yourself - the circle is complete" i think thats like saying stay strong to who you are but a downside can be putting up barriers so when ya around the people ya care about dont get defensive in this case a girl who looks into your eyes and can see your true colours and thier just saying dont fight it like you would against everyone else and once you stop fighting the circle becomes complete because ur true enough to your self to be who you are and want to be around the people you love but strong enough to stand ya ground when people attack you too. thats my idea might not be great but hey i think it works^^ |
