Coroner – Read My Scars Lyrics | 10 years ago |
an imprisoned individual whose crimes were triggered by abuse suffered earlier in life. "the walls between us make the public feel safe" Society doesn't want to hear about the reasons for crime, it just wants to inflict punishment for perceived depravity and deformity of character. |
Coroner – Die by My Hand Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I'd be shocked if this song wasn't about the Shrike from the Hyperion Cantos. It seems plausible that Marquis may have read the (then new) Hyperion and decided it was an inspiring subject to write a song about. |
Nevermore – The River Dragon Has Come Lyrics | 10 years ago |
nice work, well-researched and written. it's a shame you had to "pass it off as a poem," because the writing really does stand on its' own merit. thanks for your in-depth analysis. |
Periphery – Scarlet Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I don't claim it to be perfect, but the lyrics as they are now are totally wrong |
Periphery – Scarlet Lyrics | 11 years ago |
So many reasons why one should never entertain the taste of the red, a cry for a life of innocence escapes her Keep running back to kill because it might make it easier, it's the scent of fear that keeps you chained down to the ritual Adhere! You're a slave, born into a dark world of disease, a slave that's longing for a rich way Learning to love a disaster, direct your soul in the essence of light to draw the blood of the master Flee! The stains on your wings now carry the fray Selfishly embrace the glory vengeance brings - hold, curl in tight, illuminate the night Punish me, an eye for an eye, an eye for the wicked - just the sight of me, your cold intention, burn intuitions You put a smile on this face, exist like you can last within this wretched place, so please forgive what I've become The stains on your wings now carry the coldest zeal extracted from the omen's life, one steady hand in victory Darkness weeps as love enfolds under a pure and present night, borne from the eye into the light So many reasons why one should never entertain the taste of scarlet |
Amorphis – Shaman Lyrics | 12 years ago |
wow. I know this song is about Lemminkinen's Mother, from the Kalevala, but I see strong parallels to Lady Stoneheart from GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire 'Mother wept for her sun' bring to mind her thoughts at the end of the Red Wedding. The 'Sun's ray' that changes her could be the Red Magic used by Thoros to resurrect her. In many ways she goes from being a mother to being a kind of witch, hell-bent on revenge by an means. |
Dead Letter Circus – Reaction Lyrics | 12 years ago |
living life 'awake' has been a theme in DLC's lyrics since 2007. |
Agalloch – Sowilo Rune Lyrics | 13 years ago |
the dialogue at the end is from The Wicker Man |
Ocean Is Theory – Plant Your Fields Lyrics | 13 years ago |
from wikipedia: "the Pharisees have been made notable by references in the New Testament to conflicts between themselves and John the Baptist, and with Jesus." |
Alter Bridge – Slip To The Void Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Slip to the void; to the dark; to the fall, Crawl to the life you should've known You should never come this way to test the hands of fate You don't belong here Peel back the skin; close your eyes; Hell is borne to the abyss, but be warned: You fear what you've become... my god, what have you done? You don't belong here But it's all in the way you touch, and you obey, denial... Sever the ties; trip the wire; dig your hole, Doubt is alive, and you know: You were once led to believe - you were young, and so naive But now no longer But it's all in the way you turned your back today Left to face this alone, left to die with nothing you can hold Left to break in the cold, in the void that you made the moment you let love go Try to win back your days, you let them all escape your heart Now that you've come so far, why did you have to fall so hard? Look at what you've done, what have you become? Alter Bridge's masterpiece |
Alter Bridge – The Damage Done Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I won't waste away, I won't let this take me down I can't survive as long as I keep it around I wish it would fade, but it will just sell me out Over and over and over, I cry out loud - "somebody save me... somebody save me..." The race I run, it keeps me farther from the man I could become The damage done, I want to wash the filth away 'til there is none I run 'til I break from the weight of what's killing me Profuse to the day, I suffer, afraid to speak I carry the shame and beg for the remedy How long must I live with the damage of my disease? |
The Material – No One Has to Know Lyrics | 13 years ago |
yeah they'll never make a song that comes anywhere near this one again, this is a masterful track |
The Human Abstract – Digital Veil Lyrics | 13 years ago |
instrumentally an awesome song, but too heavy vocally. the overall message is poignant, the consequences of digitizing society have yet to be fully felt and need to be confronted, but I feel like the lyrics to this song are really lacking... like it's message is being forced down my throat. |
The Human Abstract – Complex Terms Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Brett Powell said "'Complex Terms' is about the illusion of progress, we think we are constantly moving forward, but often we are taking steps backward. We are comfortable giving up our valuable time for things that are not worth it, unable to balance our wants and needs. We are being 'lead through the valley, into the mouths of wolves.'" source http://www.noisecreep.com/2011/03/11/the-human-abstract-discuss-progress-in-complex-terms-killer/ |
Parabelle – Atonement Lyrics | 14 years ago |
replace 'a torment' with "Atonement" (the name of the song, go figure) in the chorus, and you'll have it pretty much perfect. |
Circa Survive – Through The Desert Alone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah the intro and first verse are amazing, if only the rest of the album could've followed in this vain. |
Flyleaf – Arise Lyrics | 14 years ago |
hands down, the best song off of Memento Mori. so sad yet inspiring in a carpe diem sense |
Flyleaf – Swept Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
this is a great song, but the chorus is so corny and trite that it ruins the entire thing for me personally. |
Flaw – All The Worst Lyrics | 15 years ago |
wrong eegor, Volz is saying that "waiting here defenseless isn't pacifist, it's ignorant." He's saying they're not being pacifists, the people who he is talking about simply don't know or care enough to defend themselves. |
Evans Blue – Eclipsed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I believe he may actually say 'lights' in the first part of the chorus, and 'lips' in the second part. |
Evans Blue – Eclipsed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the lyric is 'when our lights meet, will you know me then?' Eclipses have to do with light passing over an object and blocking it from view, thus the title of the song. "When our hearts meet, will you even notice that they are Eclipsed?" It's not that 'lips' makes more sense, it simply appeals to the senses in a more obvious way. Besides, the vocalist know that 'lights' and 'lips' sound alike, he's playing with words that both fit in that particular phrase. Look at the lyrics to some of his other songs, like the chorus of "My Damsel" and the bridge portion of "Over" and you'll see what I mean. |
Evans Blue – Painted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I put my tab of "Painted" up for any guitarists who may view this. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/e/evans_blue/painted_tab.htm |
Evans Blue – Good Enough Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Regarding "Good Enough," Matisyn remarked that: "it's my favorite song we have to date and I hope it will be heard one day by the masses. Our third album is written with a sense of empowerment." |
Evans Blue – Pin-Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
probably my favorite lyric from the album comes from this song "Don't look down because falling is fatal from this height, I should have never have held you up this high" This lyric is from the viewpoint of the narrator, reflecting on how unrequited love can make us put the object of our affections on a 'pedestal' and not be able to turn away. He is suffering from the high expectations that can't possibly be fulfilled by another person. |
Evans Blue – Michelle's Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
another live song, can be viewed via youtube, written for a fan who was diagnosed with cancer. |
Evans Blue – Painted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It means "Look before yourself prior to ending everything" The comma just delineates where Vlad often pauses during the song as he repeats the first part "Pogledaj ispred sebe..." over and over at one point |
Evans Blue – Good Enough Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the lyrics were posted in October on the Evans Blue myspace blog the song was performed for the first time live December 31st 2007 in Texas. |
Hurt – Aftermath Lyrics | 16 years ago |
my favorite off the album. straightforward meaning with amazing lyrics, the Edelweiss reference is heartwrenching and beautiful And I simply love the crescendo towards the end |
Evans Blue – Painted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
and PaintedWithHatred, I too am tabbing this song I'm working with C# G# C# F# A# D# and I've got about half of it done, both Vlad and Parker's parts. I'm curious to know what your take on the main riff is because I think mine is slightly off. |
Evans Blue – Painted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Pogledaj isbred sebe, prije nego sto odkoca sve" is what is said by Vlad 7 and a half minutes in until the end. it's Serbian and is basically the chorus of the song. |
Evans Blue – My Damsel: A Confession To An Adversary Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the pre-chorus is actually "My Damned-Soul Needs Fire" followed by "My Damsel Breathes Fire" a rather clever play on words |
Evans Blue – Blackhole Lyrics | 16 years ago |
no album, these are demos available at the Evans Blue myspace page made before 'The Melody' At the show I went to last year, Evans Blue played this song live. |
Evans Blue – She Fell Lyrics | 16 years ago |
According to Parker in a recent interview this song was originally cut from 'The Melody' It was re-recorded for 'The Pursuit' |
The Working Title – There is None Lyrics | 16 years ago |
at the end, am i hearing incorrectly or does he say "I'll...die...without...you..." ? |
Evans Blue – Q (The Best One Of Our Lives) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
According to Matisyn in an interview on Rockline the other day, "Q" is referring to the physics term for heat, which would make sense given the lyrics. This is a song about a sexual relationship where one partner starts to want more from it, and the other tries to back off. |
Evans Blue – Dear Lucid, Our Time Is Right Now Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i believe that Lucid is a womans name, like 'Blessed' from the first album, so-on-and-so-forth. |
Evans Blue – Starlight Lyrics | 16 years ago |
my favorite song from the E|B demos the lyric is actually "I miss the way it was simple, I miss you being simple." I know it's hard to hear but if you listen closely you can tell. Matisyn uses that same line in one of his blogs too, and then "...and I'll say 'you're beautiful in black outlines...'" |
Evans Blue – Kiss the Flag Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song was written from a neutral perspective on the war and warfare in general. it's beautifully written, though a tad on the dull side the lyrics more than make up for it. particularly poignant are the dialogue consisting of a woman being told that a man she loved was killed in battle: "He kissed the flag before he died, he took one for his country" "...I'd do anything to have him back..." pride and nationalism are rendered meaningless when you take into account the personal calamity that modern warfare brings about. |
Evans Blue – In a Red Dress and Alone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the lyric is "carve MY name into concrete so that they know that I'm alive." |
Evans Blue – Eclipsed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i interpreted it as 'melodies' at first but it is indeed 'analogies.' any thoughts on the bridge portion, [2:51 -- 3:32]? it sends shivers down my spine every single time i listen but i still have a pretty vague inclination as to what he actually means by it. |
Evans Blue – Painted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
any thoughts on what "your picture trends in black and white" could mean? trends is the correct lyric but im at a loss for what it signifies. |
Evans Blue – Dark that Follows Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think we must agree to disagree i would think that the 'dark that follows' itself would refer to the man who takes your place in the woman of your dreams' life. do you see what i mean? her new lover is the 'dark that follows' the 'eclipse' of your hearts, to put a spin on Matisyn's own words in the 'Unplugged Melody.' "you are just the disease that stains her lips tonight." The new man is the 'disease.' He doesn't deserve her but she's been infected by him. The narrator watches helplessly from the sidelines. thoughts? |
