| Iron Maiden – The Prisoner Lyrics

@[Eversio:46605], you are ever sio correct!
My own thought is that 'The Prisoner' is a metaphor for purgatory, and 'Number 6' is between heaven and hell. Each beginning, along with the dialogue "what do you want?" "Information (double-meaning, In Formation i.e. 'get with the program and join the rest of us!') "You won't get it!" Each beginning includes the Lotus being followed by a hearse, the driver is a mortician, approaches the front door and gasses the main character. Each episode, he wakes up fully dressed, doesn't need a shower or shave or normal bathroom business. 'The Prisoner' thinks he is a free man and has free will. But check out his 'breakfast order' in first episode 'Arrival' where the order is at his table and served, just as he makes his custom request. Is he really exhibiting 'free will' and ordering what he wants? Hmmm.
Great song, great show! |

| AC/DC – Big Jack Lyrics

I think this song is about the Jack Reacher character in Lee Child's books, and now movies. He's a 6'5" for military policeman, all the ladies come to see him and all the boys want to be him. He is a frighteningly violent streetfighter, who doesn't care about the law or custom, he only cares about what is right.
I think about AC/DC and their involvement with soundtracks for 'Iron Man', 'Private Parts', writing the song for 'Last Action Hero' (Big Gun), and that is partly why I think this is the song meaning. |

"War raises it's head, and slowly looks around." "Uh"? "Well"? Really? "War" is mentioned twice more in the lyrics "smell of war and pain" and "carcasses of war". Not seeing the Crowley thing, he is like Che Guevara, James Dean and Jimi Hendrix, all much more popular today than they ever were in their time and the legend is much greater than the men ever were.
The "30 years now sleeping" is so obvious, only recently hit me as the time between the end of WWI (1918) and beginning of WWII (1939). |

Of course that's what the song is about, listen to the words, read the lyrics, watch the band's video. Your message is in 2013, this song was written when Communism was still threatening to sell the West the rope with which to hang ourselves, and threatening atomic destruction. You probably weren't even born then. Glad the song got it wrong. |

Excellent analysis, and this song really reflects the time it was written and recorded (1974). If I may add, the "CIA/Maf-I-yay" rhyme references a common (and often correct) suspicion among Black Panthers, the John Birch Society, the 'Mafia', KKK (and today militias, the Occupy movement, etc.) that there are informants among you/us. The recent revelation that Al Sharpton was an informant for the FBI against the Mafia is interesting, especially since he traded that deal for not having to inform against the Black Panthers. (FBI would have been the correct reference, not CIA, but CIA rhymes and FBI doesn't...hey, it's music!):-) |

I meant the USSR. If communism didn't implode, thanks to Reagan's persistance, Russia would not exist and the USSR would continue oppressing citizens and neighbors alike. Have you watched the video? I doubt it, otherwise there would be no question about the intention to disrespect Thatcher and Reagan. |

| Extreme – Am I Ever Gonna Change Lyrics

My favorite Extreme song, very heavy music. Didn't listen to the lyrics for years, because the song felt so good and heavy. But my new digital system, and a few years behind me, have allowed me to reconsider many songs and the lyric messages.
This song is pretty humble, not something heavy rock is known for. It speaks of frustration, and disappointment with oneself. Whether it is being unable to handle one's pride, or drinking/drugs, or respecting relationships, or the will to do what is necessary to achieve a goal, it is a question everybody should ask at some point. Admitting that behavior, thinking, work ethic, etc. is not working is a big reality check. I love this song even more for this message. |

small correction, the song is "die has been cast" (not dice), a metalworking term.
Have enjoyed Motörhead since the '80s, but only recently been listening to the lyrics. Hard to understand through Lemmy's rasp (and my sketchy sound system), but the loneliness and desperation and defiance all come through. Sometimes the only salvation is to rock hard, and ride free. |

| Billy Squier – Lonely Is The Night Lyrics

The song is about depression. Which, btw, often leads to behavior like excessive sleeping, watching TV, wanking*giggle*, etc. The song is actually kind of encouraging, lines like "you're not the only stranger in this town", "nobody's stopping you", "are you ready for a fight". It is a tough condition, easy to get into and tough to get out of. Squier's lyrics are really a cut above most of the '80s bonehead rock.
He seems like an intellectually interesting person, and it is too bad his music career did not sustain much past the late '80s. I had read and heard mixed things about him personally, that (like many artists) he is difficult and moody. Recently saw him perform in 2006's Ringo's All-Star band DVD, and the clips of him talking were quite revealing. He takes himself very seriously. I like his music, and the DVD is worth a watch if you are interested in Squier these days. Cheers. |

| The Rolling Stones – Get Off Of My Cloud Lyrics

This is a great driving song that gets me psyched. But the lyrics reveal a narcissistic selfish twat that Jagger truly is. He wants to be alone? He's in show business!! If he really wanted to be alone, he would have done what Gerry and the Pacemakers and Herman's Hermits did. Instead, he whines about his neighbor who is (rightfully) complaining about his loud music at 3am, or getting a ticket for sleeping in his car. Put on some headphones, why do you have to impose yourself on the rest of the world with 3am loud music? Why would you drive downtown just to sleep in your car, unless you were an attention-seeking clown? Well, you got a few tickets, so pay them with your rock star cash and leave us all well alone.
Other than that, love the song. |

Wow. This is one of the few songs I hear and do not EVER switch away.;-) There is an interesting technique with the bass, and some of the lyrics, where it falls just behind the beat. It causes an anticipation to the listener, trying to hear something that isn't there until a split-second after it should be. This is the first time I heard it, and it became quite popular with disco songs like Rod Stewart's 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy'. I like the unbridled vocals, makes me wish I could sing like that! |

| Great White – Face The Day Lyrics
|
The lyric is "...raining in a world of TRAITORS"
This song is about depression. As years go by and it happens to you, or someone you know, this song takes on a whole new meaning. Great White put this cover tune (originally done by Australian band "The Angels" or "Angel City" as they were known in the U.S.) as part of an EP when they lost their first big record contract. "Stay Alive in '85" was their motto and tour, then. Women, record companies, fans, even fellow band members, it was all pretty depressing for the band at that time.
Anyway, I love this song and it fits just right for those moments of loneliness, betrayal, despair, and hopelessness that seem like they will last forever. Fortunately, they never do. But the song is great~! |

| Ted Nugent – Stranglehold Lyrics
|
Actually, St. Holmes sung it "better CROSS your face", as in sign of the cross because this ho-bag, who is getting it from the backside, is in such dire condition as she better start praying.
"Stranglehold" is Ted's arm around her throat, as he enters and delivers from the back. She's going nowhere, and he is in full control of the situation. The entire song is an aural and lyrical sexual experience, although I think Ted is flattering himself that he could last as long as the song. But the ending windup is the part where he busts his nut, rolls off the top, and pulls his jeans back on.
Similar to Foghat's "Slow Ride" in that the song is so clearly about f******, and a musical interpretation, yet very few seem to grasp this. There is a post where somebody said they got in a "mood". Well, that is what this song is all about. |

Great song, heavy and I especially like the break where the song slows and the vocal phaser is used.
I think the song is about "war" in general, and my hint is the "30 years now sleeping" as the treaty signed in haste by Athens, with Sparta. Sparta was becoming a huge and powerful nation-state with trade and logistics and a smart population ruled by military, and Athens was a cradle of artistic and philisophical enlightenment; you can guess which side was afraid of the other. The sinner is Mars, the God of War, who required a "sacrifice" from farmers and citizens each year or else war would return.
That's my two cents! \m/ \m/ |

| Fireball Ministry – King Lyrics

Fantastic song, even without a message. One lyric correction, s/b "if I was born a believer, unbelieving."
My thought is that it could be about MLK, Jr. or Jesus, JFK (King of Camelot), etc. "The jury couldn't win" means that even convicting the assassin doesn't make things whole, and there is nothing left but to "close the coffin door."
"A believer, unbelieving" describes my own feeling when Acquino was assassinated in the Phillipines stepping of a plane in 1983, Sadat in Egypt as he watched a parade in 1981, Bhutto was assassinated, just last year. Many more attempts, those were just the successful ones. I couldn't believe it when all those happened, it was shocking to me ("unbelieving").
I also like Sour's take, that the song is about issues as "King" personified by an individual that would "fall again." Totally makes sense. Anyway, great band and great song. |

I read Nikki Sixx's 'Heroin Diaries' too, and he claims a lot of stuff that only a deluded egomaniac would claim. But I believe the claim that it is about Vince, because even though it was originally "Cruisin' For Ladies" when Joe Perry and Desmond Child put it together, Steven Tyler says Mötley Crüe was the inspiration in Steven Davis' Aero bio "Walk This Way" |

| Saxon – The Thin Red Line Lyrics

Jesus, this song is so sad. Great bluesy riff, I could listen to a 20-minute version. But in the end, I just think of the brave heroes who did what was right and fought for something greater than themselves.
When I look around me, at the Gameboy playing, iPhone texting, Taco Bell eating, DVD watching children who take for granted all the freedoms and options and choices, I wonder if they ever think twice about the ones who came before to fight and defend western civilization.
Ah, Saxon is almost a pejorative at this point in our time, but the band is a cut above and I love this song's feel and message. |

Also, the song title is taken from a 1957 movie made by Orson Welles, starring Charlton Heston. A fantastic movie about the struggle between dark and light and the temptation to do the wrong thing when it is easier, less risky and more rewarding. This is another movie worth renting, Netflix fans!:-) |

Fantastic song, too good for most metal fans. Video involves very different scenarios including a religious 'snake-handling' service, a clip from 'Freaks' (look it up and rent this classic) with a midget showman, a young child mesmerized by....a beautiful woman? The band? The orchestra?
Personally, it can apply to a woman I knew was bad for me, to drinking that 'one too many', giving in to a temptation. Check out the 'live in Japan' clip on YouTube, it is a great performance piece done with keyboards offstage, the crowd really responds! |

| Def Leppard – Waterloo Sunset Lyrics

This song is so sad and lonely, but it is great! 'Terry and Julie' reference British actors Terrence Stamp and Julie Christie, who were a real-life couple while filming 'Far From the Maddening Crowd'(1967). This song represents the feeling of a depressed person staying home, alone, dreaming and fantasizing about the people he sees coming and going from the tube station. He makes himself content with a sunset, but Waterloo station is as ugly as any industrial area. Claiming he "don't need no friends" is what really gets me, because the line infers that he has no friends, or that his friends have betrayed him; maybe both. Anyway, it was an interesting choice for Def Leppard to cover, kind of an obscure original by the Kinks (at least here in the U.S.) and I really like it. |

Cheshire Cat's analysis really narrows it down for me, thank you! Always liked this song, heard it this morning and was compelled to rate it '5'. In my life, I am surrounded by posers; quite often, they get the attention of pretty girls and other rewards. But it seems like a lot of work to keep up the pretense, and ultimately they move on because at some point the 'mystery' is no longer intriguing to others. So they start it all over, with a new 'audience', so to speak. Anyway, great song, never get tired of it! |

tissymissy, khrstal and MeShell, I am so sorry for your loss and concerns. Was going to put something about myself, but your posts really put it all in perspective. Heard this song for the first time, in a long time, today and the words really sunk in. "No safe place to put my head" Wow! This really describes the frustration and lack of answers and resolution to problems that follow me right into my sleep. This song is fantastic lyrically, and the pop harmonies make it a pleasure. | Rob Thomas – Little Wonders Lyrics

I have really enjoyed reading everyone's interpretations, Rob Thomas has created a beautiful song that we all see a message in. For me the 'small hours' are the early morning hours (as in "wee small hours of the morning" from an old standard) when I lie awake and think about my regrets, bad decisions, hurtful things I said and were said to me, and replay memories. I don't enjoy this, and want to put these thoughts out of my mind. And this song is letting me know that it is ok to move past these things, and "let it go" and "let my clarity define me" instead of the sorrow and regret I feel. Wonderful song, it is my favorite of the moment; a great example of the power of music. |
