This is a truly beautiul song. I think it's definitely about the shock and denial factor a lot of us go through right before a relationship ends and when it has ended. It's about being able to tell that person is fading from you but you don't want to admit it to yourself. And the chorus perfectly represets the confusion and thinking it shouldn't have ended like it did. Then it goes on to post break up and how you see them again and you hold onto that hope again..that something will change and you're not actually broken up. I really adore the lines "He will try to take away my pain and he just may make me smile. But the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead." it really describes exactly how you feel when you try to date someone (or maybe just get romantically involved slightly?) after a break up that hurt you deeply. This song really hits a nerve for me but I love it. It's so deep and personal and beautiul. The acoustic I'd outstanding, too. |

This is such a sweet song! It sounds like it could be about Toby (the 'husband' in the Mine music video). Because it mentions a gap in his teeth and tattoos, both of which Toby has .. and they were spotted together quite often, even before the shoot, so people suspected they dated. I wonder .. :) Either way, it's a pretty adorable song about a girl trying to comfort her significant other becasue no one thinks they should be together but she sees through all of their rude opinions and loves him anyway. I was in a similar situation when i was sixteen. I was falling for him when everyone was against it. And I fell totally and completely in love. It was wonderful. This almost seems like a more realistic 'Love Story'. ... the focus of it anyway, ahah, loving someone who no one else wants you to. |

Taylor has said numerous times that Speak Now is about the last two years of her life. So I'm betting that this is about John Mayer ... especially considering the song 'Story of Us' is about an ex-boyfriend she sees at an award show and how it's killing her that he is avoiding her. The secret message for that song is 'CMT AWARDS' ... and Lautner and Jonas would have never been to thsoe. So,I do think it's about Mayer. And the details fit him so well .. the people warning her, her being so young (why else would she mention her age if he wasn't older than her/), the blatant disrespectful way he destroys so many women that he dates. Mayer is known for being awful in relationships. it all matches up. As far as the song itself -- I'm going to agree with a lot of people and say it sounds like emotinoal abuse. She was deeply hurt by him. It sonds like he was manipulative and kept her on her toes and she never knew what to expect out of him. But, I love in the end how she says that she took his matches before fire could catch her. It's like saying she got away before she really got burned all the way. And when she says she's shining live fireworks over his sad empty town .. that suggest that she is able to see how she went wrong and she can work on getting happy .. while Mayer is still miserable and alone, because of his cruel treatment towards the people he dates. Thsi song is so raw and it captures a feeling that is very hard to pin down in words .. it's like you're grasping for something for so long and you keep working at it becasue you're so hopeful and then finally you look around and see all the destruction and how hurt you got from it all. That probably didn't make any sense. But I do adore this song and how it's written, the melody, her voice, the lyrics .. all of it. Beautiful. |

This song is one of the best on the album, in my opinion. It's very soft, slow and sincere. You can hear her hurt in her voice and the pain she's feeling and the desperation in the fact that she feels so lost from losing the relationship. 'So I'll go sit on the floor wearing your clothes/and all I know is that/I don't know how to be something you miss.' It's clear that even though she was angry (Forever & Always) she was still very hurt by all of this. This song really hits home for me and I'll admit I cried when I first heard it. The ending is the saddest .. 'So I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep. I'll feel you forget me like I used to feel you breathe.' It's an incredibly beautiful song and I adore this entire album .. she's grown so much and it's amazing how she keeps outdoing herself. |

I think the song is about a girl they knew. I'm guessing she went to clubs and bars a lot and got drunk most nights because she decided it would be fun at first, she probably got hooked. The line "her dress/whispers reckless" sasy to me that she could have been loose with herself a few times. The only line I coudln't understand the maening of was ... "slips on her necklace" Do they mean literally..? I adore this song though. Ironic that it's esentially about an alcoholic but it's up tempo... |

Okayy. This song defiantly reminds me of someone I used to like and still do somewhat. I think "oh what a shame what a rainy ending given to a perfect day" means he seemed so perfect but now she figured out he is very rude and mean to her. And, oh every smile you fake is so condescending counted all the scars you make .... I love that part. That's the truest part of it for me... It's a bout a girl who likes this boy a lot and he is very arrogant and mean towards her. |
