| The Libertines – Up The Bracket Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I like to think that after a night on the town two men have come over to him and asked him for a girls address. Unlucky for him he has a liking for the girl and shows them the V n pisses off. They chase him and aren't best pleased so he tries to make conversation ... and he gets a swift punch in the throat. Meanwhile the girl is completely unaware that any of this is going on, meaning that she's in another world. However, the bloke that wouldn't give up her address is a decent kinda chap, unlike the two blokes, meaning that he's in another kinda world to the two men ... because he "was so bold" and didn't take the money they would be a perfect couple. Quite a downbeat on the ending as it doesn't sound like they're gonna get together, she probably doesn't realise he likes her -----EXACTLY |

| I'd have to go with the Kray twins interpretation, b/c although shadow men are police, it sounds more likely that they would be bad people ("shadow" men), or else why would they offer money to find a person. | |

" The Man Who Would Be King (1888) is a short story by Rudyard Kipling concerning two British ex-soldiers who set off from 19th century British India in search of adventure and end up as kings of Kafiristan (now part of Afghanistan). The story was inspired by the travels of American adventurer Josiah Harlan. Barat & Doherty are known fans of Rudyard Kipling & his work " GAAAH! I was hoping to be the first to point that out! haha |

"The lines: "oh, no my feelings are more important than yours oh, drop dead, i don't care I won't worry" are not the guy speaking, but instead the guy expressing his opinion about what he believes are the girls hidden feelings. This type of subtle dialog is common stylistic element of stokes songs. " Exactly. That is exactly what I interpreted from this song. The guy likes the girl and the girl is such a selfish idiot, but he still likes her and gives in, "Sweetheart, your feelings are more important, of course". The chorus is just the guy echoing the girl's thoughts. |
