There are only two famous things to come out of Dagenham (an area to the East of London, very unglamorous). 1) Dudley Moore. Now I stand to be corrected but I do not think this song is about him. 2) Ford Motor Cars. Dagenham is home to a massive Ford Factory which produces the UK's most popular cars, the Escort (the chosen car of the so-called Boy Racer) and the Fiesta. And is by far and away the main source of employment in the area. To prefix a song "Dagenham" immediately places it within a certain context. It tells us that Dagenham Dave is a working class, heterosexual male, works at Fords and drives a Ford Escort (the commonest car on the roads) In an area with its fair share of unemployment, he has a job, has a car, has more than his share of women (Karen and Sharon) and need not worry where his his next meal is coming from. |

i love this song, i think its about heterosexual priviledge, dave just dose what he dose and its ok, he dosent have to fight for his right to mary or teach (the teachers are afrad of the students) or question the religious of political beilefs he was raised with bbecaus they work fine for him. the vidio however makes it out to be abotut a"player" or a guy cheating on his girlfriend ill have to look in to that "The Stranglers" song title thing |

when all i could understand was the save me save me and the desperation of his voice it was about needing someone to save you from yourself. I just saw the vidio on youtube and reread the lyrics, the vidio starts out with a small boy and an oldman with a gun, their is some uncomfortable sexual tension then the boy leaves, a stork picks up the old man and you see several elderly people being droped into a factory they are turned into babys and flown away in baskets. the old man at the begining fights the stork and the factoy braks down causing the babys to plumit to thir doom. it seems this song may be about an early molestation coming back when abuout to have sex with a much older man...(how can you love a tiny bug impressed) this line however with the withering death and sex brngs aids into view... |
