It's great song like this that I really wish there are more songs like this. Very moving and inspiring. Not to mention beautiful music compositions & arrangement that can really MOVE your soul! I myself am a Gen Y, and it is indeed sad to see of how music nowadays tend to be all about shallowness, sex, money, materialistic value, commercialism, and more money & sex,..all in the name of "sex sells". that's utter crap, IMO. these people (especially the top record labels & executives, that unfortunately & pitifully use their immense POWER to do the WRONG things, instead of pushing such a STRONG, powerful CHANGE in society!) probably never realize what harms they're really causing in the LONG-run of things! |

I am a Gen Y, and this song....let me tell you that I just couldn't find this kind of utmost heartfelt, 'warm' feelings in ANY, any song nowadays, and I do really mean it with all my heart! I'm a musician myself (indie, DIY), and just yesterday I listened to this song again, and it really moved my heart so much..and for some strange reason, tears almost come out of my eyes (i'm a guy).. it's so beautiful,..and 'sad irony' at the same time! |

I just surprisingly listened again this song today, after several years since I was a little child when I listened to this beautiful song. To my amazement, this song still really is a very beautiful song, and personally, it means a lot to me! this song, to me, is clearly about the passion of a musician/singer/songwriter (here in this song termed as "Guitar Man"). a musician will have his/her own reasons to travel miles & miles away, to play the songs, just to be able to share something so abstract, yet so beautiful & eternal, which is the message, the meaning, and the emotions of the music. true/real musicians often have different motivations than most regular practical people in this world. and this song has clearly depicted it very beautifully. this is easily become onf of my favorite song, even in this so-called 'digital era' of 'noisy' music, this song still and i think will always stand out on it sown, at least to me personally, as a singer/songwriter myself. |

I just recently knew about Good Charlotte. In fact, it was LAST NIGHT, when they came to my country (Indonesia) and do some promoting for their 'Good morning revival' new album, & also play accoustically some of their songs. Although I have to say that musical-wise, their music is just standard, ...but what seriously catches my attention immediately is their lyrics, which are often so good, and most importantly, ...I also can relate very much with it! This song "Hold On" is immediately what gains my respect for GC, from what was "unknown" , into immediate "two-thumbs-up" in my category. And it's all because of such strong & powerful lyrics (not to mention its strong Music Video I've seen last night, about suicide & its bad effects to people around us). I am not a person without any problem. In fact, a lot of times I also often my life is very shitty - just like many of you who've posted here. Society pressure, parents pressure, and a job/career that isn't at all related with my personality & talent....all of them can sometimes makes me Hate life sooo much! (even 'thinking' of ending my life, 'though it's only been in my mind). But this song,....even though I've heard it only ONCE (which was last night!!) , it already stirs a lot of emotions inside me, ...and strengthening me !! These two lines alone: "But we all bleed the same way as you do And we all have the same things to go through" and "Hold on if you feel like letting go Hold on it gets better than you know" is definitely very insightful, and what makes me give "two-thumbs-up" for GC. |
