| The Birthday Massacre – The Dream Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm not the only one who gets a sense of tragedy from this song. I always get this feeling the girl died whenever I listen to it. "She never did what they told her to and they'll never see her dream come true." Because she's about to die.... "A final moment taken before this story's end unfolds." The story's end is death... Or what occurs after death. "Now she flies over clouds in twilight skies. Nothing to bind her, no one will find her this high" She died. Nothing tying her down to the Earth now. No one to come looking for her in this heavenly-sounding afterlife. "Far above the rainy weather" The weather referring to either peoples' doubts in her or in this case their grief that she's gone. "All plans have come together, and for the first time she feels just fine." Reading this, there's such a sense of finality. A happy ending, yes. She finally got what she was looking for, but at the same time there's this ominous feeling that she met her fate, and even though it's a good fate, it's a happy fate, it's a great fate... It's sad. Because the only way the girl could achieve the impossible was by dying. If this song is indeed about a book Chibi likes, I would love to know what book. |

| Versailles – After Cloudia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My understanding of Japanese is rather limited, admittedly. However, my understanding of this song goes as follows... Listening to this song, I get this feeling the person is singing about someone's they've lost. "yume ga sameru to anata wa inakatta" translates to something along the lines of, "Waking from a dream, you weren't there." Then, there's this line. "kizu wo kakuseba anata mo kieteyuku / hikari no shita de" translates to, "If I hide the scars, you disappear too / Under the light" Looking at the title, it says, "After Cloudia". I'm assuming the title is a mispelling of the name Claudia, because in Japanese when foreign words are written phonetically, it doesn't reflect the true spelling of the word in the language it was adopted from. Now bringing these vague hints together, here's my theory: The title "After Cloudia" is in reference to Claudia, the little girl vampire from Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire". For those of you who haven't read the series, Claudia was killed by burning in the sun, because she met a troupe of vampires who thought it blasphemy that a child was converted into a vampire. The song is written with the speaker (probably the vampire Louis) addressing the ghost of Claudia. Hence, the line about her disappearing with his scars in the light. Other things to consider, assuming Kamijo wrote the lyrics. Kamijo (the lead singer)'s favorite author is listed as Anne Rice at his biography at dead-orchestra.net . The name of the perfume Kamijo released for the "Aesthetic Violence" DVD was called Louis -- perhaps in reference to the main character of "Interview With the Vampire" who was in love with Claudia? I read somewhere that Kamijo stated in an interview that he models his appearance after the vampire Lestat, another one of Anne Rice's characters, but alas, I cannot find the link of the site where I read this. |

yeah. that is why i stopped listening to IAG. they were pretty much my life up until that point. i will forever love the first EP, but i cannot listen to it anymore, knowing what they did to make it. also, IAG lied about the reason they would no longer play this song live. they made it sound like a personal reason, not a legal issue, when they announced it on myspace. took me a year and a half, but eventually i figured it out. :/ |

| Kill Hannah – Race the Dream Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I love this song, because it's so sweet and romantic. And yet, at the same time, that's exactly why I hate it. XD I always thought Race the Dream was referring to reaching for a goal that isn't supposed to be reached, like true love. In the song, it sounds like everyone else in the world thinks love doesn't exist, but people try to find it anyway. The doctor tells them it's not possible, and even the two people in love that the song mentions probably thought so at one point too [hence the "glass menagerie" they used to have]. But now these two people are going against everyone's expectations and they've found love. |

| Aiden – Let The Right One In Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i want to say this is a reference to that swedish vampire film, "Let the Right One In", just because of all the vampire references. but then i have no idea what the "empire" part is about. anyway, i feel like this song is about allowing someone to relate to you and letting them become close to you. when two people meet, it doesn't matter what kind of life a they've lived and what kind of things they've done as long because in the end they feel things the same way. |
| The Birthday Massacre – Under The Stairs Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i don't think this is suicide at all. it reminds me of those threats little kids make when they get in trouble or they don't get their way. they basically say "you'll be sorry when i'm dead!" and go hiding somewhere... in this case, under the stairs. except in this case, the child sounds like they *might* be dead, but only in some parts of the song. the beginning line about being too young makes me think of parents who have kids when they're only teenagers. i'm not completely convinced on the abuse theory, but it sounds likely. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Shiver Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think this song is about a girl who still likes a guy, but he doesn't like her back anymore, so she has to repress her feelings for him. hence, "she can't afford to come off hot [in love] because she's too cold to shiver [repressing all she feels]". the walls that watch her and break her fall are her peers. the shadows refer to other people like the girl who had to repress their feelings, because she's empty of emotions and in the song they are described as "empty" like broken hearts. the painted faces refer to the facade everyone, even the girl puts on, to hide their true emotions. and "broken hearts are never true" refers again to hiding the pain of breaking up with a loved one. i'm not positive on who the "you" in this song might be. i thought possibly the person the girl liked, but then why would all the shadows be crawling over them? unless all the shadows liked the same person? |

the lyrics are really fun to follow along. :) basically a girl got drunk at a party, came across someone who looked familiar, and did something scandlous with them that resulted in her wanting to forget everything. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Over Lyrics | 17 years ago |
to me, this song is a simple story about a relationship where the love died- but no one wants to admit it. or maybe they were never really in love? either way, they're not completely open with each other, which seems to be the heart of the problem. because of that, they can't confront the issues and get them over with. as a result, they continue to live together, as though still in love, when really both of them are silently questioning why they're even together still. i just realized i pretty much agreed with everyone else. *yaay* anyway, this song is awesome. it's one of my favorites by TBM. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Nothing and Nowhere Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with the Death interpreation. and just to add on what others have already said... "the darkest time of year" is when you die. "The night of dreams when Things are not as they may seem Before the day we'll never know" - no one knows what is after death. we can only imagine. that's the essence of this song, and that explains the last lines: we don't know what death is ["we're lost"] but we know that's where everyone will end up [" and we're found"]. "We're nothing and nowhere / Forever and ever" - my favorite line. the person imagines death as being some timeless void where one goes to no longer exist. like the song, it sounds like a peaceful place, yet at the same time its really dreary and depressing. i love this song. it's the saddest TBM song i've ever heard, but listening to it fills me with a bittersweet happiness. |
| The Birthday Massacre – Nighttime Lyrics | 17 years ago |
to me, this song is about falling in love with the idea of being in love and the heartbreak that results from it. "Something pseudo tv love" - pseudo means fake and TV shows always idealize everything. "A mixed up girl who's something of A fairytales romantic dream come true " - the girl sounds almost too perfect to be true. "A magic made for tragic minds... she could see right through me And I would end up on my own" - their love was doomed & the girl knew the person didn't really love her. "Whispering tales of broken hearts She told me things would never change" - the girl tells the person their relationship isn't working and never will. "There was only so much words could say We closed our eyes and dreamed away And for a time our love was almost real" even though they're love wasn't real, i don't think either of them wanted it to end, so they pretended it would work out. but in the end, the person ends up without the girl anyway. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love this song. basically, it's about the downward spiral of a loving relationship due to a lack of trust. my favorite part is the chorus: "Broken Heart, Broken Mind When you let me in Did you not know where I had been?" it basically screams out loud the flaws of the lover(s). they weren't entirely truthful about their intentions. |

| I Am Ghost – Lady Madeline In Her Coffin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
so, strangely enough, i randomly started thinking about this song the other day, even though it's been a while since i listened to it. and you know what? more and more, i see that this song is about that edgar allen poe tale i mentioned in my last post. i used to think it might be the Madeleine from Interview With the Vampire, but she was never laid out in a coffin, like the title mentions. the poe story is titled "the fall of the house of usher". in the story, there is a man [Usher] who has a sister who frequently falls into cataleptic death-like states. i said Usher unintentionally burried his sister alive, but that's actually wrong. he KNEW she was in one of her fainting states but he told people she was dead and locked her away in a tomb anyway. over the next two weeks, Usher basically goes insane from all the anxiety and guilt he experiences from that dastardly deed. he can hear his sister trying to escape the tomb at night, which makes him even crazier. finally, one night, Madeleine breaks out of the tomb and comes to brother. he's so scared that he dies at the same time she does- right when she collapses on top of him. i see so many little things that refer to the story. "half of creation's destruction" ^ a reference to Madeleine's deathlike states. "Replaced the moon and the stars with candles" ^ the tomb. underground, there is no sky. the only light is artificial- candles. and later, it says "I replaced the moon...", making it sounds as though it were the boy forcing that fate onto the girl. "Hate (what I've become)." Enclosed, please find Silence" ^ self-loathing for deeds that have been done, yet at the same time wishing death upon a loved one. it sounds like a plea for peace, but "enclosed" makes the victim sound trapped. "Everything's shallow, we're chasing ourselves beneath a stone, I am covered in make-up that won't wash away beneath a stone." ^ "beneath a stone" is refers to dying and being laid under a tombstone, giving the impression that this person sees futility in living. the make-up is a reference to guilt. "The beating of a god that won't let go." ^ Madeleine did not die right away when she was locked inside that tomb. there's more, but i feel as though i've been nitpicky enough, so i'll stop. :P even if you don't agree with me, i hope you enjoyed my interpretation. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Queen of Hearts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i love this song. it makes me wants to cry. :') the lyrics are wonderful. so is chibi's voice and the music. it's so ethereal and soft sounding, until you listen close and hear the words... most of my favorite songs by TBM are the ones where they tell a story. this song is kind of old, but its definitely among my favorites. | |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Never Wanted to Dance Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Issues Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i lovvvve this song. it's about some boy dissatisfied with his girlfriend not wanting to have sex, so he goes around and makes out with everyone he can just to get "what he needs." oh, and i think the lyrics are a little off cause "limosine inebriated" does not make sense. that should be "that night we were inebriated". the first time i heard it was at one of their concerts. jimmy was crouched on stage with this fluffy pink tiara on his head and he had this valley-girl look on his face as he sang "it's 3 AM. she won't put out. let's go make out with her friends- make out with her friends' friends!" so i thought the song was about three girls at a sleepover, having an orgie. lol. |

| Nightwish – Bye Bye Beautiful Lyrics | 17 years ago |

the hills could be the rest of the band watching tarja kill tuomas [the dead man] with her diva attitude. just a theory. i'm soo excited. i was just reading The Count of Monte Cristo and there was a part where the count was telling his Greek slave, who loves him, that she won't love him forever and that someday she will leave him for another man. he told her "The tree forsakes not the blossom that embellishes it-it is the flower that falls from the tree on which it grew." i just thought that was really interesting, since it seem Tuomas got inspiration from that book maybe? even though the situations in which they are used are different. |

| I Am Ghost – Civil War and Isolation Thirst Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is about getting over a break-up. just look at the title. "Civil War" is the process of breaking up and "Isolation Thirst" is the need to be alone to think it over. it isn't necessarily a romantic relationship that broke up. from looking at the line "last dance with The Silence," it could be a band breaking up too. The Silence was the band that Steve Juliano [lead singer of IAG] was formerly a member of, until they broke up. anyway, back to what i was saying before. after this bad break up, whatever kind it may be, the person seeks relief at a bar with a woman. "With a lonely kiss from the love I missed" sounds as though he's desperate for company. all night they drink "to kill the loneliness" and tell each other "we'll never be apart." but he doesn't really mean it. "I was so, so in love, you know I appreciate it But I can not take it" instead, he thanks her for helping him out through tough times, "I'll drink to you" "Soon we'll see the sun rise Soon we'll see the sun again" refers to when he will be over the break-up. it isn't now during the song, but he knows someday it'll come. the only part i can't sufficiently explain is: "I'm so tired, it's Killing me As she slits my throat with the pen I wrote "Civil War and 13."" possibly, he's tired of feeling sad and being with a person he doesn't really care about is making him feel worse, making his break-up (civil war) especially unlucky (13)? haha, idk. i've been thinking about this for a long time. |

| I Am Ghost – Lady Madeline In Her Coffin Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is probably a stretch, but edgar allen poe wrote a short story, "the fall of the house of usher", and in it a man unintentionally buries his twin sister, whose named is Lady Madeline, alive. but other than the name of the character and the references to the grave, i don't see many connections. the song, to me, sounds like a boy mourning a girl he was very close to. she died, not in the sense that she is passed away or got killed, but in that something changed her and now she's not the same person to him anymore. the reason why i agree with the vampire idea is because at the beginning, the girl is looking back upon her life as a human and reflecting upon how innocent and naive she used to be. and then there's the line "The beating of a god that won't let go" which implies that she can't die, even if she wanted to. because of the contant reference to "we" as in "we are all the same when everything Fades" or "we're chasing ourselves beneath a stone," the boy is a vampire too. after considering all this, and noting the song's bitter tone this is what i think happened... the boy turned into a vampire. but he didn't want to be immortal all alone, so he sought out a girl that was special to him when he was human and turns her into a vampire too. but being immortal still wasn't great. everything was "shallow." and in the process of becoming a vampire, the girl lost her innocence. the boy hates himself for what he has done, for what he can't fix. but they're immortal. they can't die. they only thing they can do is to continue to exist and to try to make the best of eternity, hence the line "we are joy, so take my hand." blaargh. over-analysis. :] |

| Aiden – Die Romantic Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i like aiden. i don't have a problem with people who think less of them, but if your just going to bash, then find somewhere else. to me, this song is about losing an innocent outlook on life. one of the definitions for "romantic" is: not sensible about practical matters; unrealistic. ok, maybe its a bit of a stretch, but it could work, in particular with these lines: "all this stuff are remnants of a life in shattered glass" "I felt the dead end price you paid for every day" "This is the nightmare we die complete." and then of course, there's the "die romantic, romantic" |

| Lacuna Coil – Within Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |

this song is about regret. someone saw something a certain way. they revealed this insight to another person and totally killed their mindset on life, basically ruining all they had to live for, and now that persons wishes they never chose to do so since they destroyed someone they cared about. the other person still exhists, but it seems that they are scarred and seek an escape from this inevitable truth. possibly death. definitely one of my favorites. it hurts to listen to, but it's so beautiful that i can't mind. don't know about it being about a relationship, but cristina&andrea definitely represent two different people. |
| I Am Ghost – We Are Always Searching Lyrics | 18 years ago |
to me this song is about the search for love&friendship. those are two great things that should last forever, but there's so many times when you think "this could be it" and it's not. "In these coffins made of gold With friends and lovers freshly buried" this is a reference to the people who once meant a lot to you, but now are "dead" to you. gold coffins equate to the good times with them that are now just memories. '"Is this the last of our haunting?" she says as she floats like an angel "You will never know until you let me go, I'm hoping this will never end."' this line is the saddest to me. everyone else is gone and now the two friends/lovers are asking themselves if their relationship will last or go to rot like everyone else. but of course neither knows. those two portions stood out the most to me. i love this song. i love this band. my life hasn't been the same since my sister&i went to one of their shows. it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. this songs also reminds me of that, since none of their other shows i've been to have compared to that first show but i keep going anyway, hoping to reennact that amazing night... |
