Sufjan Stevens – The Earth Lyrics 9 years ago
Correction: "Though it may have been in solitude" should be "Though it may have been insulted."

It's, "I'm gonna settle your heart"

submissions
Zola Jesus – Sea Talk Lyrics 10 years ago
No, it's not. I'm listening to Sea Talk on the new Versions album, and it's DEFINITELY "Sick, I'm sick honey."

submissions
Zola Jesus – Sea Talk Lyrics 10 years ago
The originally posted lyrics are more correct than these. She's definitely saying, "Sick, I'm sick honey."

Sufjan Stevens – Impossible Soul Lyrics 11 years ago
He also said that he's very insecure about his voice and very self-aware of his body, so on this record he said he sort of let go of that "whisper" from Seven Swans, Michicgan, and Illinois and didn't really care about his voice breaking and the dancing was to help him become more comfortable in his skin (and supposedly to help with his mysterious illness).

IT'S NOT AUTO-TUNE, PEOPLE. IT'S A VOCODER. Two totally different things.

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Impossible Soul Lyrics 11 years ago
It's a vocoder, not auto-tune.

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Impossible Soul Lyrics 11 years ago
It's "I'm nothing but a privileged peddler."

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Age of Adz Lyrics 12 years ago
It's actually a vocoder, not auto-tune.

Sufjan Stevens – Happy Birthday Lyrics 12 years ago
Capitalized "You" and etc. often refers to God, not Jesus.

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Happy Birthday Lyrics 12 years ago
"You're God's great paramour" meaning that whoever Sufjan is speaking about is God's lover. "Paramour" is defined as "a lover, especially illicit". While the illicit meaning isn't concrete, the illicitness of the word could STILL signify Jesus because Jesus's relationship with God was looked down upon by the Pharisees. They thought him to be a blasphemer of God.

Sufjan Stevens – Happy Birthday Lyrics 12 years ago
Not necessarily. A paramour is usually an illicit lover, but it's not a concrete definition.

Patty Griffin – Mary Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the most meaningful, most poignant, line in this song is, "While the angels are singin' his praises in a blaze of glory / Mary stays behind and starts cleaning up the place" She lost her son, she had to take down his body, and help prepare it and bury it after seeing him suffer the way he did. She had to deal with the grittiness of it; God and the angels did not.

Sufjan Stevens – I Want to Be Well Lyrics 12 years ago
It's definitely "A crowd of ages outside / dressed for murder".

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Get Real Get Right Lyrics 12 years ago
It's "Prophet Royal, priest and king" instead of "Prophet, brother, priest and king".

Coldplay – Charlie Brown Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's:

Light a fire, oh, find a spark!
Light a fire, flame in my heart!

Lady GaGa – Born This Way Lyrics 13 years ago
Like everyone else said, it's pretty self-explanatory, but the "subway kid, rejoice your truth" has me a little confused. Is she just speaking out to whatever random person is on a subway?

Sufjan Stevens – I Walked Lyrics 13 years ago
He took a year off. He was sick at one time and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. At the concert, he talked about how he's moving a lot more during concert as a part of keeping active.

Sufjan Stevens – Age of Adz Lyrics 13 years ago
I think you're confused with "Get Real Get Right". The only time he mentioned Royal was when he play "Get Real Get Right" and he said it was for Royal. He said Age of Adz was about how love can almost feel apocalyptic when it goes wrong.

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Age of Adz Lyrics 13 years ago
I disagree. The ONLY time he mentioned Royal Robertson was when he played Get Real Get Right.

submissions
Sufjan Stevens – Age of Adz Lyrics 13 years ago
I would venture to say he's personifying the words 'victorious' and 'glorious'.

Sufjan Stevens – Age of Adz Lyrics 13 years ago
Sorry @Andgtome, I agree with sufstuff. You definitely need to go back and listen to Enjoy Your Rabbit and A Sun Came (more so to Enjoy Your Rabbit because I don't think it sounds ANYTHING like Age of Adz but I do see similarities between it and A Sun Came). Yeah, he went back to a more electronic sound that is prevalent in those two albums, but a lot of the things that made the 50 States albums so great are mixed in with that electronic sound. It's something new.

Shiny Toy Guns – Le Disko Lyrics 16 years ago
To me it means taking a boy's virginity and only doing that. Women like this are called black widows because they're older and seek out virgins. Fits with the girl turning into a spider-like creature in the video.

It also hints at lesbianism, as well. And I don't think that is a girl walking around in the video. It's a young boy.

And to shirvs... it's completely possible for it to be about another person.

They could be laying their head down and praying to God to allow them to be with this person with whom they love.

Eastmountainsouth – All The Stars Lyrics 17 years ago
i'm not saying it's a song with a pro-gay message, but i knew a boy who was a very devout christian.
everyone looked up to him, he was a worship leader and, on the side, wrote his own songs. come to find out, he was gay and nobody ever knew that's what his songs—the ones he wrote in his own time—were about.
i'm sure the song could be applied to many, many situations.

Fergie – Glamorous Lyrics 17 years ago
when she says "after the show or after the grammy's, i like to cool it with my family" i laugh because i can't help but think of her drug addiction. it bugs me that artists say one thing and produce music that—music that is supposed to reflect who theyare—says they do another.

Maria Taylor – Leap Year Lyrics 17 years ago
Who changed it to "for the plenty"?
I hear "Horn" and it makes sense because she's talking about the bounty of Autumn and the bread and wine. It's Thanksgiving and a horn of plenty is a cornucopia.

she has an amazing voice.

Orenda Fink – Miracle Worker Lyrics 17 years ago
For a while I thought the girl in the song was a type of messiah, but now I don't think so. I think the girl is sick (leukemia, maybe?) and everyone in her town is grieving, they're laying their hands on her, praying over her for her to get better. A room of things she's never seen would be hospital equipment, a strange bed, etc.

The last bit kind of throws my theory off, but maybe she got better and now everyone who is sick looks to her for hope. Maybe if they meet her, they will get better, too?

The Cure – All Cats Are Grey Lyrics 17 years ago
This always reminded me of Marie Antoinette. What do you know, it's in the movie. I think it's because of the lines:

"I never thought that I would find myself
In bed amongst the stones
The columns are all men
Begging to crush me"

People wanted her dead, basically.

History involved itself?

Eve took the forbidden fruit. She and Adam both ate from it thus bringing sin into the world. They involved themselves along with everyone else. So, history involved itself.
