I'm not trying to be offensive here but I think it's a bit silly to assume this song cannot be about 9-11 based solely on the fact that the Americans in here (or assumed Americans, based on posts) think that Davey Havok (someone you don't even know on a personal level) could never speak ill of those events...Really? There are loads of people all over the world who feel differently (not necessarily against the States, but at least not seeing them as victims necessarily).
With all that being said, I doubt this song is about that tragedy since I believe it was likely written well before then...which brings me to my question about the above comment: do you know exactly when it was written? It's just that many bands have loads of great songs just banked for years before releasing them.
IMO, Sold Your Soul hit the hammer on the head with this song's meaning...this is about Conformity and "Posing" so to speak.
In closing, I'd like to just address all the "AFI aren't politically inclined enough to do such and such" comments...WOW, you guys and girls need to open your eyes a bit wider...that subject holds the majority of what they write about.

I totally agree with SPR...i'd like to say good call on that. I didn't even notice that as a possibility until I saw what you wrote. |

I think this song is about a female friend that this guy knows and she is basically offering herself to him for sex as well as she has feelings for him ("your wounds are opening wide"). He finds her rediculously attractive ("dressed to kill ,you look so right") and is having a hard time holding himself back ("I am drunk with lust tonight"). She is obviously a friend and he is warning her ("let's be honest, you know you shouldn't bother 'cause with me it's impossible to win"). He sleeps around and is afraid of commitment in a relationship ("now i'm afraid of open water, but I ofen bathe in sin"). I thought it was about two people who had feelings for each other but the opperative word isn't LOVE, it's LUST. I think that this girl is not a slutty girl from the title, maybe and that's why he is struggling against his penis. He is basically weighing this out and in the end starts considering that this friend has potential for being more but he doesn't want to treat her like a one night stand. ("there was always warmth between us")("and they might be just my size"). |
