At first I was kind of skeptical, but I think CaptainZaltan is on the right track. I think this song has to do with some homelessness/poverty issues in a major city, and the singer's dismay at living in this poverty-stricken place. >This town, it takes life without mercy, without hate. Refers to people dying of the cold and hunger, or just the harsh life on the street. The death that takes them is without mercy, but it's also without malice. There's no murder involved, just the cold, ruthless, uncaring death on the street. >The cracks in the pavement match the cracks in their weathered skin Refers to people who are so accustomed to living outside that their skins are weathered and cracked. >The streets are in distress Refers to the fact that the streets are filled with suffering >The lineup seems endless, underneath the salvation sign. I imagine that this refers to a line of people waiting for food or shelter at a religious charity. The line of people is so long that "the lineup seems endless", and they're standing underneath a large cross that adorns the charity building. >This city is haunted by ghosts from broken homes ... there's no hope left for these souls This is a metaphor for the starving, freezing people in the city. They're referred to as "ghosts", because they're seen as nameless, faceless shapes rather than actual human beings. And there's no hope for them because they feel hopeless. All the rest of the lines are about the singer's shame and amazement at what he's seeing in this city, but that he's unable to leave. >This town has its claws buried in my neck This is a metaphor for being stuck somewhere. He can't run away because its claws are buried in his neck. >The grass is growing under my feet, I'm thinking it won't be long before I'm too deep to run Another metaphor. He's saying that the grass is growing all around him and pretty soon he's going to be too deep in it to be able to untangle himself. >The sky's a brick wall, the ground's a juggernaut... between them I am caught. Again, saying he's stuck here. >I stare in amazement, I can't believe this is where I live. Self-explanatory. He's amazed at all the suffering around him. I think by the end of the song, he sort of accepts that this city is a part of who he is and invites the listener to "come join the lost souls" and "come walk with us". |

These lyrics are completely wrong. Correct lyrics: This town has its claws buried in my neck This town, it takes life without mercy, without hate The streets are in distress The sun suffocates behind darkened skies The grass is growing under my feet I'm thinking it won't be long before I'm too deep to run The lineup seems endless Underneath the salvation sign We are the dead ones, we are the lost cause We are the bend before the break, our steps seal fate Because this city, this city is haunted By ghosts (ghosts) from broken homes (homes) Because this city, this city is haunted There's no hope (hope) left for these souls (souls) Every step I take, I leave a small piece of myself behind Soon there will be nothing left The cracks in the pavement Match the cracks in their weathered skin The sky's a brick wall, the ground's a juggernaut Each day they get a bit closer, between them, I am caught I stare in amazement I can't believe this is where I live Every breath I take, I feel my lungs seal This breeze feels more like shards of glass I'm more scars than skin Because this city, this city is haunted By ghosts (ghosts) from broken homes (homes) Because this city, this city is haunted There's no hope (hope) left for these souls (souls) Our steps seal fate Our steps seal fate This is our celebration, come join the lost souls This is our celebration, come join the lost souls. This city, this city is haunted. Come walk with us all Come walk with us. This city, this city is haunted By ghosts (ghosts) from broken homes (homes) Because this city, this city is haunted, There's no hope (hope) left for these souls (souls) |

| Velvet Acid Christ – Slut Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think this song is about a girl(slut) with a S/M personality (well it may sound absurd ... beat your ego black and blue) People that know her see her as the pleasure in their lives. (I will be your doll) (I will be your hole) (I will be your toy) But then she consumes the lives of everyone that she dates/does and ruins them. (I will remove your heart) (I will abrade your soul) (I will tear you down with the twist I bring) (I will burn your world) etc So like the person above me said, it's about a person who is your every pleasure and your every pain at once. Also, the most epic line in any song ever is "I will be your never ending, unbefriending, self-expending, moral-bending thorn". :) |

It's cool, jxnarcoticz. I always thought it said "deafening silence and stark emotion". Haha And way to be a dick, my2gaycats. "anyone who isn't a complete moron knows this song is about being a homosexual"? The point of this site is for everyone to express what each song means to him/her. While we're on the subject, by the way, I don't think this song has anything to do with homosexuality. It seems like another scenario/story song like Mariner's Revenge from the same album. I take it literally. One question I'm having is about: "And there's my girlfriend arm in arm With the captain of the other team And all of this is clear to me They condescend and fix on me a frown" Who's frowning at him? His girlfriend and the guy she's cheating on him with? Why? |

| Tool – Reflection Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"And in my darkest moment, fetal and weepin' The moon tells me a secret, my confidant As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own and A million light reflections pass over me " This is referring to the fact that the moon, bright as it is, does not generate any of its own light, but reflects it off the sun. The connection to reality is that we cannot always shine by ourselves, but can still be part of the reflection of a greater cause. "Its source is bright and endless, she resuscitates the hopeless Without her we are lifeless satellites dreamin' dreams " Again... Referring to the sun. The sun has always been a symbol of revival, because it breaks the dead of night with dawn. |

| Blink-182 – Untitled Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"When I needed you most was when I needed a friend, You let me down now like I let you down then." Dammit... I just got off the phone with my girlfriend. This song made me think... I love her, but she abandoned me when I needed her most. I hadn't listened to Blink for almost a year, but just now I immediately thought of this song. It fits. |

That last part with the chanting of "Lord let us go" reminds me of an -actual- prayer or hymn in the christian church, but I can't seem to remember what it is. This song's definitely one of my favorites. |

| The Birthday Massacre – Horror Show Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I thought about both of those explanations for a while, but neither really makes sense to me. Think about the first lines "They're getting ugly; They're a horror show; And now we're laughing; Because they'll never know; That they have everything; We give them all of our own; And they tell us they're sick and they're alone." Why would you describe friends as ugly? And then why would you laugh at them and say that they have everything? That would make you sound like a pretty jealous person if you were just gawking at your friends' successes and saying that they're only there because you "gave them everything". Same with the misfit kid thing. "And it always hurts to see them now that everything is different; We don't like to see their eyes 'cause they will never look the same." Why would it hurt to see them now that "everything is different"? I mean, if they changed and aren't mean to misfit kids anymore, then why would it hurt to see them? I think of this song as like a story. First, I visualize a big business, with lots of executives but like 5000 times more "little people" who actually make the business survive. The big corporate executives get more and more full of themselves and keep worrying about little issues like making an appointment when the workers of their business are dying in poverty. The executives always screw with the workers and make them look like idiots and morons, but the workers look up at the executives and ironically pity them. Then one day, the business crashes and all the executives are left with nothing, they're even worse off than the workers. The workers, in the spirit of comraderie, offer the once-great executives menial jobs to at least help them stay alive. But the executives are so used to this luxurious life and still look down at the workers so much, that they'd rather die than work for them. So they do. |

This is one of my favorite songs. I'm surprised no one has written about it yet. This song reads almost like a story, the way most do for me: "I think... from space" In the beginning, two lovers meet on a rainy night. One of them breaks the relationship with the other. "Hiding tears... face" The other was obviously stunned. Even though she's crying, she tries to hide it. The "same familiar face" refers to that of the other lover. "Something pseudo... come true" The "pseudo tv love" refers to the fact that the love they had wasn't real... at least not to a certain degree. The next two lines describe the lover. "She breaks... never easy" This describes the love that the two had. It would have been one of those stressful relationships you hear about in High School. "A magic... my own" The girl must have known that it would end like this ("thinking back I should have known") & ("I would end up on my own"), but she continued on because she was addicted to love, and couldn't let go. ("A magic made for tragic minds") One line in this song kind of bugs me... ("That she could see right through me.") Normally when you can "see right through" someone, you can tell that they're lying or doing something for their own purposes. Maybe the girl was "using" her lover just to not be alone. "Gazing through... starlit rain" Just like a story, this song has a "flashback". She's thinking back to when they met. It was on a rainy night just like the one they broke up on. "Whispering tales... never change" Her lover assures her, when they start the relationship, that they won't end up like everyone else (broken up and miserable). "There was... almost real" Just like in real life, there is only so much you can convey with words. The rest can only be understood by those who think alike. In the beginning, it worked very well, but then they understood that it wasn't right after all. |
