I saw this song as atheistic. We, being humanity, have strayed too long on the shoulder's of giants, or Gods and religion. There is emphasis on the word "strayed." Strayed implies that you're looking around, searching for something. What the Planet Smashers seem to be saying in my eyes is that religion offers nothing. We truly can't find any solace in religion, but only humanities' own accomplishments. This is supported with the lines: "Sentiment points to faith and a reason to believe Rest assured without detail, we follow never lead" Humanity is naturally immature and cannot fathom life without an afterlife and an all knowing creator. We never put faith in humanity, but rather fictional Gods. That's just my two cents. |

I kinda see this song as as a satire about military interventention and nations (like Iraq, even though this song was written before then). Basically, if we (the West) allow them (the 3rd world), they'll destroy themselves. Overall though, it's not a noble task but rather a scheme to get money and we don't actually care of the plight of such peoples. I'm probably wrong though. |

I actually think this song is a satire of kids who don't look in the long run and just want to drop out of school. The lyrics talk about "Playing the fool" and "It makes no difference what you tell them, They don't really care" meaning kids who don't value education. "Should be staying in school" is the line that most goes with that hypothesis. Lots of people think this is just a "I hate school" skate anthem but it looks to be the exact opposite. And I did see these guys live with Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto. Amazing. Their stage presence is ungodly. Kick ass. |

I personally saw this song to mean of the futility of drinking. That the truth is drinking, "It's been overblown," meaning its not really worth it. "Thought my highs were giant size" meaning that it wasn't really as fun as he thought. "Don't believe a word, not a word, one word" seems to speak of not giving into peer pressure to drink. The lyrics, "Or passed out in a storm " lead me to more so believe this is about drinking and the physical pain you have afterwards, which Dicky seems to state is not worth the minute high you get. I'm not really sure though. I remember hearing somewhere that the Bosstones were against drinking, but that seems to go against Dicky's comments on their live CD when he states he was drunk while wearing something. |
