Alanis Morissette – Ironic Lyrics | 1 year ago |
@[ImagineJLennonGH:43125] Nope, your example is not irony. It is coincidence. Irony would exist when, due to your fear of flying, you took an alternative method of transportarion, and died or were seriously injured while doing so. |

@[catfishlake:43124] NONE of them are examples of irony. |

@[goomba555213:43123] That would be intolerance of religion, nat racism. Islam is a religion, not a race. |
Alanis Morissette – Ironic Lyrics | 1 year ago |
@[goomba555213:43122] The "afraid to fly" example would only be ironic if, due to the fear of dying in a plane crash, our person traveled by car, and then got into a serious collision. |

@TomYorkeGuyGarvey92 None of those lyrics are ironic, either. The rain is coincidence. Being said director, and relocating the wedding to avoid rain, ands then having it rain in the changed location- is ironic. Reaching into a drawer of ten thousands spoons, totally expecting to get a spoon, and finding the one knife- would bw ironic. The traffic jam example remains coincidence. It would be ironic if you took an alternate route to avoid traffic, and ended up in worse traffic. The no smoking thing would only be ironic if you work at said lab and most of the staff smoked. One would fully expect a "no smoking" sign at such a lab, hence the example you provided is not ironic, as it is fully expected. |

@[babieemelly:43120] The examples you gave are also not ironic. They are both coincidences. Irony would exist if you moved your wedding from Seattle, because rain was predicted for that day- to Albuquerque, NM, to avoid the rain- and then it rains in Albuquerque. (even more ironic if it did NOT rain in Seattle that same day). The umbrella scenario would only be ironic if you intentionally left the umbrella at home, because you were certain it would not rain, and then it rains. To be succinct: irony occurs when the opposite of what is expected or intended, happens. |

Cocteau Twins – Perhaps Some Other Aeon Lyrics | 2 years ago |
@[eeeeee:39584] Thank you for your judgment that my comment was "gross." It really helps further the conversation about the meaning of the song (pooka wrote, sarcastically). For all I know, eh? Explain then the presence of this particular lyric: "It is a more sacred sin then on this list" It is far less likely for one to consider a miscarriage or stillbirth as a "sin" than it is for one to consider the intentional ending of life a sin. While it could be correct that the death was unintentional, that lyric strongly suggests otherwise. The odds are more in favour of my assertion than they are not. "We have no idea if this song is about a deceased child or not" Are you actually serious? Umm, yes we do have such an idea. It is strongly supported by the lines: "I was near when you died at birth I was near when you were born in death" Yeah, sure. We have no idea if the song is about a deceased child. Got it. Hey guess what? "I like pizza" but we have no idea if I like pizza or not. |

@[eeeeee:39583] It is not ironic to ask the other user for evidence. Irony occurs when the results of an action are the opposite of its intention. What you meant to say is that it is "hypocritical" of me to ask. That being said, it is not hypocritical either because I actually do present evidence from the lyrics of 3 songs that support my claim. I am not sure how you missed that. The other user merely wrote that my claim was "complete and utter nonsense" without providing anything supporting that claim. As regards the inspiration for a song, the inspiration for a song and what it actually is about are not necessarily the same. Also, the inspiration may have had to do with Jeff being missing, which could have triggered thoughts and feelings for Liz. We do not know. But hey, the video is so totally not about Jeff. |
Massive Attack – Teardrop Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[Stephen1961:36452] Does it make you feel good to make disparaging remarks of someone's viewpoint? Back up your claim with some evidence. How and why is what I wrote "complete and utter nonsense"? Similarly to what I wrote above, writing nothing but "complete and utter nonsense" is not an act of love, either. It is the act of someone with nothing better to do then direct anger at someone else because they disagree with their viewpoint. Why do you disagree? What do YOU think the song is about, Stephen1961? Please explain and use examples from the song or other related sources (such as comments made by the writer or the like) to support your view. Like I did. I included references to other songs written by Liz that touch on this same theme as well. You did nothing of the such, just blind opinion. So provide some supporting evidence. Thank you. Otherwise keep your figurative mouth shut. "@[pookaboots:36453] complete and utter nonsense. Stephen1961 on April 05, 2021" |

Massive Attack – Teardrop Lyrics | 6 years ago |
@[SmallDoll:22785] sorry it took me so long to reply. i think "love is a doing word" is stating that love is revealed through one's actions- it is not about what one thinks or even what one feels. what one DOES is what actually demonstrates love. in the sense applying toward abortion, i think that it is a reminder of this fact (and that abortion is no such act of love). we can justify/rationalise any action or behaviour, but it comes down to that love is something we DO. |
Massive Attack – Teardrop Lyrics | 6 years ago |
@[IrishWxman:22784] i am unclear as to why if one's opinion differs from yours, that you must not only perceive him or her as "dumb" but also publicly state this. you don't stop there tho, you feel the need to go on as to suggest such people are "mad." btw massive attack are a trip hop band, not a new age rock band. notice how i can state this without insulting you. you are lacking understanding if you do not know that an abortion is a tremendous loss with accompanying guilt. i agree with the writers who point out why a confession if the song is taken at the given meaning? as another mentioned, artists frequently mislead us with the actual meaning of songs. i could make a short list off the top of mine head. i don't know that its meaning is ruined if it was in fact about an abortion (which other tunes by liz suggest, such as "perhaps some other aeon"), and for the record this was one of the most comforting songs if not THE most comforting after abortion gave me its permanent scar. ""Teardrops on the fire...?" You people who say its about abortion are just plain dumb." ......abortion, as any death- is permanent. no amount of crying can change it. the lyrics apply quite well. "Yeah, Massive Attack is going to make a song that describes in detail an abortion procedure; are you mad?" ...... liz wrote the lyrics! and they do not describe an abortion procedure- not in detail and not at all. they do happen to perfectly describe the post-abortion experience, however. as you wrote "C'mon people, think before you post dumb crap". not to be insulting, but perhaps you should follow your own advice? |

The Sisters of Mercy – Vision Thing Lyrics | 6 years ago |
i had initially thought it certain that this song was about heroin and a cursory review of the lyrical content should substantiate this interpretation. however, after reading the suggestion that it was in fact a political commentary directed at bush 1 and a further analysis thereof, i have determined that said suggestion is in fact accurate. this is a derogatory political commentary directed primarily at bush senior. and imo, a remarkedly brilliant and rockin' one |

Men Without Hats – Antarctica Lyrics | 11 years ago |
'antarctica' is a title for personal emotional coldness/numbness, and that of society- hence he says it is 'here, right in your town.' 'cheating the sceme' refers to seeing through the illusion created by mainstream society. 'pictures moving and always the whirls' refers to how this insight was achieved- which was psychedelics. also note with 'ice age shelter- it's me that's found.' - he has found the person he feels is is 'true self' rather than being cold (or totally removed ;) ) or 'trapped under ice'- the metallica song of that name is essentially the same song. |

almost forgot! the further confirmation that the song is about alcohol is the very clever title: "still life." hard alcohol is made in a STILL |
Iron Maiden – Still Life Lyrics | 13 years ago |
the song is about alcohol/alcoholism. hard liquor to be exact, also known as "spirits." upon reading the lyrics with this in mind, this should reveal itself rather quickly. "spirits calling me" was the give-away for me. 'the bottom of the pool' refers to either/both the alcohol itself or those who have been drowned by its overconsumption- severe alcoholics. "nightmares will give me peace of mind" for an alcoholic, the booze is the only thing that makes one feel okay. "coming all the time" of course refers to the fact that the alcoholic drinks all the time. the whole thing is a metaphorical reference to the demons of alcohol. very nicely done too, excellent lyrics. |

i hear both 'fearless' and 'feathers' like, alternately. in support of the 'feathers' there ARE feathers floating around in the video. |
The Cranberries – Sorry Son Lyrics | 17 years ago |
looks pretty straightforward that she ended her son's life in the womb. it sounds like she was under pressure from others ("And isn't it strange how people can change, oh And isn't it weird how people I feared They all seem worthless now") "i had to be cruel to be kind" sounds like the propaganda people pressuring a woman into abortion give. "i wasn't the same without my brain": refers to the mindstate she was in at the time, of course |
Cocteau Twins – Perhaps Some Other Aeon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is liz dealing with her abortion, and the fact that she killed her child. it is not uncommon in post-abortion trauma to have thoughts that maybe that child will somehow be born elsewhere in some other place and time, or exist in some afterlife somewhere. 'a more sacred sin then on this list' refers to that abortion is truly the worst possible act one can commit. it is the killing of a completely innocent child, who has their entire life taken forever from them, and from you. it makes the woman, designed by to be the protector of the child and bringer of life, into the killer of the child, the taker of life. it is the most self-devastating act a woman can ever do. 'felt the faces within you' is reference to the many thoughts that follow you the rest of your entire life, post-abortion- about what the child would look like, and what experiences are forever gone, never to be. |
Massive Attack – Teardrop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is about abortion. watch the video- the child is aborted via vaccum aspiration. it begins when the beeps start, you can see the sinking motion begin here. watch her move down the birth canal. note the last drops of blood move thru the umbilical cord, and the blood flow as her placenta is torn from the uterine wall. the bright flash is her exiting the mother entirely- you can see in the upper left hand corner a hand. at the end she twitches in death. liz had an abortion, before the first cocteau twins album- note lyrics to 'for phoebe still a baby' and 'perhaps some aother aeon' for confirmation. 'teardrop on the fire' refers to that all the weeping in the world will never bring back that child that was killed, and will never ever be. it forevers haunts the mother, and the father. |
