| Morrissey – I Have Forgiven Jesus Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I think you are totally right in everything you wrote. | |
| Sugar – Hoover Dam Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's kind of interesting playing this song backwards. You can hear some of the vocals that have been reversed, and some of the guitar around 2 mins from the end and the drumbeats at the start sound like the original instruments which were then reversed. | |
| Depeche Mode – Fragile Tension Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
The lyrics on the net for this song are useless, surely the line is - "Oh when we're teethering on the edge of collapse, nothing can keep us down" These seem like the correct lyrics, http://artists.letssingit.com/depeche-mode-lyrics-fragile-tension-9wzwl91 |

| Depeche Mode – John The Revelator Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think when Martin says “Armageddon? Gee, thanks.” , you can guess that this song is criticising the fire and brimstone aspects of religions. http://www.keyboardmag.com/article/depeche-mode/nov-05/14876) In other words, using fear and promises of damnation to control your followers, similar to the way the book of revelations is often used. |

| The Human League – Mirror Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This appears to be a song about alter egos, and the way someone's personality can change to fit the people they are with, especially if they are starting a new relationship. It sounds like it's describing how you may almost become a new person, or have this new alter-ego, depending on the relationship ("And if it seems I'm not the one you used to know Our little friendship left behind not long ago"), but he's not always sure if this is necessarily a good or bad thing, and perhaps thinks that he is a bit too receptive to other peoples ideals of what he should be ("You know I'll change If change is what you require"..). This is not entirely within his control however, because the mirror-man ego keeps drawing him into other peoples expectations ("..Here comes the mirror man..") |

| Depeche Mode – The Love Thieves Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I don't agree with the religious interpretation of this song, I feel that the religious imagery is used as a device to help paint a picture of the dark side of love and lust. I think the 'you' is like a personification of romantic love, like the Goddess Aphrodite perhaps. The 'common' people try to become disciples of love, but they often fail due to the physical imperfections of the world. In this way they (unwittingly) give themselves as sacrificial martys to the idea of love. In the real world this may be seen as the dark sides of love - pornography etc. The martys aspired to the ideal of perfect love, but tragically got lost along the way ('they live for your beauty.. and pay for their vices'). They are love thiefs when they try to achieve love perhaps through a shortcut of physical gratification. Unfortunately, we are told that this is necessary in the world - "love needs its martyrs", but that the original nobel aim of those that had fallen, will be remembered by all those who share the same desire, the heart of all lovers. |

| Pixies – Alec Eiffel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
If you look at the artwork on Trompe Le Monde, you can see the Eiffel tower depicted as a spaceship. I believe this song is Frank Black's homage to Eiffel whom he might have seen as a kindred soul, who had the vision and confidence to go with what he believed in regardless of what others had to say, and daring to think big. As well as physically resembling a space rocket, the Eiffel tower could also have been seen as a meta-physical gateway that future spacecraft development came from, in the sense that Eiffel used the tower for pioneering wind resistance experiments and built a wind-tunnel at the base of it, a lot of which would contribute to future rocket design. In this way, the tower could almost be seen as a religous structure, originally built as an abstract symbolism of reaching for the stars, but then also in actuality contributing in some way to achieveing this goal. |

| The Cure – A Chain of Flowers Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I always thought the chain of flowers in the title was like the myth of a fairy ring, where his lover is asleep in it, she is prone to magic that can bring her to a different world. Now it's later, and he's remembering that time when he first realised how afraid he was of losing her, and it just hits him harder. This song feels like it's from another world. |

| The Cure – Lullaby Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"I spy with my little eye.. something beginning with... S.." I interpret this song as a fear of sinking into an addictive or depressive behaviour, like a sex addiction. The spider represents a sexual predator, catching it's prey by deceit and cunning, consuming the meal and then quickly moving on to the next. The spiderman then is a monstrous physical embodiment, that creeps along at night, quickly into the bed, mocking his victim and forcing lust and empty craving onto him in a vampiric way, so that the victim wakes up in the morning shivering and painfully aware that the addictive behaviour will continue .."the spiderman is always hungry.." . eh then again it could just be about spiders :) |
