| Michael Hutchence – Slide Away Lyrics

The additional vocal/lyric was for the song Slide Away, not A Straight Line. And as far as I know it was additional vocal...he is uncredited if it was lyrical. |

| Michael Hutchence – A Straight Line Lyrics
| 14 years ago
|
|
This song is about Michael's problems with the tabloids and paparazzi (dogs). Black and white bleeding particularly referring to newspaper text. Take a straight line being a reference to the papers not telling a true story in regards Hutchence/Yates. I once also thought coming to the end of my losing streak/straight line was a reference to cocaine but more likely refers to his eventual suicide. |

This song is about being "high" hence the continual references to space. Avoiding ordinary lives in the pursuit of the rock lifestyle. |

| INXS – Hear That Sound Lyrics

This song is about the power of people, more particularly in large crowds or in marches for the purpose of peaceful protest or celebration. source: Hutchence interview. Even more relevant today with social networking sites etc IMO. |

| INXS – Dancing On The Jetty Lyrics
|
|
Dancing on the Jetty, refers to avoidance of an issue or problem....not getting your feet wet. Possibly in reference to youthful disregard of all the worlds problems. Sort of being to the side of it rather than amongst it. And the actual lyric is "Letting God's tires down" just to name one, there seems to be a lot of false lyrics for this song. |

| INXS – Taste It Lyrics
|
|
This song is about never being satisfied (either sexually or just in general), and the never ending quest to find satisfaction. Add guilt to that quest, and it leaves you feeling rather empty. Very similar to the lyric in the song "Time" from the FMDH album. "Just when you *taste it*, you turn to walk away". Quite a depressing song in that context. |

The song (extended mix excerpts) appears in the Crocodile Dundee soundtrack, in that context the lyrical meaning is obvious. |

| INXS – Days of Rust Lyrics

|
This song was written to all the knockers of INXS (even their own record company at the time), who said they were done and dusted. Especially those in the media. There's also a sexual metaphor going on, but let's keep it kid friendly... |

This song sees the United Nations in a night club situation, source: Hutchence when talking about the song in an interview. |

I think Hutchence writes about (to) himself here, and if you remember how he died, it is particularly revealing. |

| INXS – Shining Star Lyrics
|
|
mdeaves is pretty much right, Shining Star is like seeing the touring life as a mistress away from your family life, "Take your life and throw it on a bus". Sure it might get you rich and famous, but you're selling your soul in doing so.....where he says to the mistress..."leave me with your heart". |

| INXS – Mystify Lyrics
|
|
My take,...the song was written in Chicago which might explain some of the lyrical descriptions. Mystify refers to the touring audiences as opposed to them being stars. They both tend to "Mystify" each other. On the one hand the band wows the audience leaving them in adulation, and the crowd as well lifts the band through it's enthusiasm. Leaving broken hearts behind, basically refers to moving on to the next city on the tour. |

| INXS – Heaven Sent Lyrics

Yeh there is also a reference to death (maybe his mother) in the verses.."dressed in black if she comes back I think I'll lose my mind". He might have been talking about all the important women in his life, where the phrase Heaven Sent can be applied....his mother his daughter and his wife. He had a habit of doing that on the Welcome album, Baby Don't Cry, Beautiful Girl..as I said though the lyrics aren't literal in all cases, which allows for greater freedom when writing. |

Considering the song was entirely written by Andrew Farriss, that's highly doubtful. It's more likely about a relation of AF. But given the romantic lyrics, it's more metaphorical than literal. |

Clues to the lyrics, I cut it short as I think the rest of the song makes sense provided you know what I've mentioned here. |

| INXS – Pretty Vegas Lyrics

The Pretty refers to the co-host of the Rockstar show Brooke (Burke?). Vegas is where the winner got to play with the band.....hence if the Pretty leaves you with no place to go....it means you're out of the show. Enough of a clue? |

| INXS – Guns In The Sky Lyrics
|
|
This song is about the SDI project (now likely defunct, and also nicknamed StarWarsproject), Strategic Defense Initiative. The United State planned to put lasers in space to defend itself from Soviet ICBM strike, hence Guns in the Sky. Hutchence seems against it LOL. The guitars and drums fit in perfectly with the lyrics, with a hydraulic, explosive type of rythm. When Hutchence refers to clock at two, he's referring to the peace sign with two fingers. That's enough of a clue. |
